Had a 72 also. Cops towed it when I was a kid (because I was a kid) and f'ed it up in the transfer to the impound. Still super bent about that 28 years later.

What a great looking car. I have always loved it too and seeing it today really tugs at my heart strings. I was looking to buy one when I was 20 but couldn't afford it and then ended up owning a 73 Hornet and a 77 Hornet, both great cars. Always loved AMC products. What a shame they are not in business today.

I wanted this car so badly when it was still for sale, I looked at it almost daily. It's almost exactly the way I would order one from the factory if I had the option today.
@phantomblott18 ай бұрын
Felt I had to leave a comment as I am original owner of a 73 Javelin AMX. Ordered it March of 1973, took almost 6 weeks to build and ship to Art Post Rambler, Kalamazoo Mi. 401 4 speed with Go Pac, dealer install 3.73 rear gears. Console for 4-speed, inside hood release, power steering, all tinted glass, light group, under dash map light, AM/FM Motorola Stereo, body side scuff molding, under front bumper spoiler. Cordoba Brown with Gold fade to black hood T stripe. Sticker price $4,471.90, of that, the Go Pac option was $476.25 and that got the rare cowl induction, only 23% of AMX's ordered in 1973 were ordered with the Go Pac or roughly 1,027 had cowl induction. The cowl induction worked so well, that a 7% horsepower increase or around 18 more horsepower was realized with it. Sadly the 255 net advertised horsepower for 73 was much less than stated. A redesigned restrictive intake that now had the EGR valve. A more emission choked carburetor that flowed 475 cfm, the useless air injection that the 4 speed required, it had stainless steel tubes that extended all the way through the exhaust manifold all the way to just short of each exhaust valve. blowing a 5# air boost against the out going exhaust to aid in lowering unburned fuel. This worthless system did away with any benefit that the dog leg heads along with the free flo exhaust would have. The actual net horsepower of the 401 with 4-speed would be in the neighborhood of 220 to maybe 225. The 401 with automatic would fair a little better at around 230 net horse. The 74 AMX with 401 would be worse once again at around 215 net horsepower as AMC now rated the 401 at a choked 235 net horse power. Still the AMX was still a good looking car for it's last year.

The inner fender flair was done not for the wide tires but to create a draft to keep the car stable at high speeds.

AMC spent big time money on aerodynamics for Trans Am. They also put a lot of work into their Pro Stock race cars, NASCAR entries a well as their off road Jeep racers.

Great body style. Reminds me of the jet fighters of the time that used the flared front and rear to the fuselage called area rule. It decreased the drag to make it easier to go supersonic.
@amcmuscle18197 жыл бұрын
1: AMC did not have "matching number" engines to a specific car. 2: the 401, or, any AMC block for that matter, was a small block. Other than that, very nice car and video
@CamaroAmx6 жыл бұрын
AMCMuscle also not a “12 bolt”. AMC model 20 (Dana 44).
@killermachine68595 жыл бұрын
"Z" code in the VIN should be considered a "number match", yeah ? Doesn't the "Bore Spacing" determine if a v8 is considered a big or small block? Is the Pontiac 455 a small block? then so is a 326 Pontiac? just food for thought. AMC DANA20 does have 12 bolts on its cover, (snack for thought?)
