I honestly got into woodworking last year because of your channel, your message and your love of sharing your knowledge. My first table saw I just bought is the Skil you reviewed... it ain't perfect, but price wise and options, it does good. I am a little scared when using because it's like you said, gotta respect the machine. But one day, I really hope I can upgrade to a sawstop Jobsite Pro Table Saw... since I don't have a lot of space, that would be awesome. Putting it in the hands of the Lord. If he sees' fit that I can one day afford one, then it will happen.

I have been a woodworker since my teens, i am 62 now and have been in a wheelchair since i was hurt in a car accident at 23 years old. i have had plenty of of industrial saws...three Uni-Saws and a powermatic 66 and loved all of them. when i moved a couple of years ago, i decided to sell my last beloved Uni-Saw and purchase a 3 hp sawstop. if it wasn't a quality built saw, i wouldn't have purchased it, but it is very well built and works great. not only does it have the safety features, the dust collection works great. cutting wood from a sitting position is an adventure at times and i have had my share of close calls, but i am happy with it so far....good luck and have fun!

For a long time, I’ve said “I won’t get a table saw until I have the confidence to get a SawStop.” The safety features behind it made me feel comfortable in using a table saw while still following all the safety practices that come with such a powerful tool of course. But for a long time I’ve been putting it off. Often times while working on a project I would tell myself, “a table saw would really help me out here.” After seeing your video from a while ago where you first revealed your SawStop and saw how happy and excited you were, I took it as a sign! I have had my 3 hp SawStop for about 7 yrs. now. The laminate surface on the right side has held up just fine. The blade that came with the saw is a pretty good one. However, I chose to use an inexpensive blade for a little while at first, because I knew I would do something to trip the breaker. And I did (hit a piece of metal). Now I have the blade with the tripped breaker attached hanging on the wall by my saw as a reminder. Using better blades ever since and no more trips. I love the saw.

Matt, I’m a Flag Maker and had the same Delta saw as you did. Back in February, while cutting up boards, I pushed my left pointer into the blade. I was very lucky in that it really just cut into the flesh and didn’t hit the bone. I had been telling myself that I was going to get a SawStop in the future. Well, the next day, I ordered mine. To me, after my experience, there is no price you can put on the safety feature of the SawStop. Plus, it really is a great saw.

Congrats! What a great blessing! Just wanted to point out one thing, the blade in your video has anti-kickback shoulders on it, this is not recommended by SawStop as it can slow the ability of the break to stop the blade. It will still stop it, but should you have an accident it can increase the severity of an injury. I've had my SawStop for about 6 months now, and it is a true joy to use! Enjoy it!

I had to look it up but I've had mine for 9 years now. Never once regretted it. Fantastic saw....and it will at least try not to remove my finger. Which is more than I can say for any other power tool in my shop. I've only set it off 3 times. Two were unexpectedly wet wood. One was grazing the side of the blade with my finger when a piece kicked out before I expected. It's so insanely fast. Having seen it go a couple times I feel reassured that this technology works. Getting ready to put a slider on it but beyond that I can't imagine ever needing to replace it.

Superb story and it warms my heart to hear that pure generosity still exists. Now, back on the saw. Or more exactly on your first reason, Safety. I can understand one chooses to pay for the SawStop save-fingers stuff something like 30 to 70% more on other comparable table saws. What is more difficult to grasp for me is that someone would be focused on safety AND avoid using a blade guard especially while ripping 2.5 to 3" material. To each his own, I guess. Just saying'.

Congrats, Matt. That is a fantastic saw. I had mine for fifteen years in a professional furniture shop. It is a work horse and a very well built machine. Something rarely mentioned is the service Sawstop offers. FAR better than anything under the Powermatic umbrella, Laguna, Grizz or others. It is expensive, but comparable to aan Oliver or a Powermatic, and the build quality and service are FAR better. Outside of a Northfield, there really isn’t a better cabinet saw, so the price is certainly reasonable. 3h- is plenty (though my new saw is 9 and I LOVE that extra power, though it’s pushing a 16’ blade, not 10’). I don’t know how many kitchens and furniture I built with that same saw you got. That extension wing, like most others are wood because that far out, the materiel is not a big deal. Replace those legs with a cabinet to store your table saw gods. In fifteen years I never once used the mitre gauge. I don’t even know why they are included. Make a sled and get an Incra for precise mitres. Or spend the money and get the sliding extension. Put a quality blades on there; Ridge Carbide, Forrest, or FS. Have a rip, crosscut, and combo, and be diligent about changing them out . Oh, and keep an extra brake handy for both standard and dato. Rad saw! Enjoy.
@grumpywiseguy59923 жыл бұрын
I bought a lathe about 3 months ago so my need for a table saw diminished quite a bit. I still use my jobsite Skilsaw when need be but not all day long as you do. That is the difference. You are in business to make wood furniture and this saw is the key element in that process. I am slightly dyslexic as well, so I have to be REALLY careful and aware of what I am doing. If I for some reason go back to sheet goods and cabinetry, I wouldn't even blink. However I think I would probably be ok with the 1.75 hp version and put the best blade on the planet on it. Blades are important enough that YOU should do a video on them and all your saws!!! Take care of yourself and stay safe!!

Good for you! I had a Home Depot Rigid table saw and was very pleased with it...until I cut my thumb. I had a kickback and my thumb came over the blade and I headed to the ER. Thank the good Lord I still have my thumb but it doesn't work as well as it use to, I sold that saw and bought a 3hp Saw Stop and just love it. I am still cautious about the blade but for a different reason... touch that blade and the blade drops down so fast it scares you... and it cost $79 dollars to replace that blade brake and usually you have to buy a new blade! Also, I'm subscribed and like to watch your videos. Keep up the good work! .

I started back with a Dewalt Jobsite saw. One little brain-fart and the tip of my left index finger was shredded. I was stupid, but I'm just glad I still have my finger. I didn't have the room for a full cabinet saw, so I bought the SS Jobsite Pro just for the piece of mind. It was $1400. My wife didn't even blink when I told her I was thinking of buying one when I showed her the demo vid on youtube. She just said 'Buy it. Now. $1400 is a lot cheaper than a finger.' Expensive, but 100% worth it. It's a fantastic piece of equipment and has the same 1.75hp motor as the contractor or entry PCS models. And now I'm getting a bigger shop. First purchase? 3hp SS PCS. My wife made sure it was the only saw I would buy (she later told me that the $1400 for the jobsite saw was worth the price just for her peace of mind).

I agree about your two complaints. My guess is most people that spend that kind of money on a professional grade table saw have a nice miter gauge. I bet most that do any woodworking beyond novice have an aftermarket miter gauge regardless of what table saw they own. I agree with the extension that a matching iron table should be an option, but I bet most would rather spend that money elsewhere.

He told me he now sells saw stop at least 10 to 1 now and that he sells 20-30 brakes modules per month. Wow!!! I didn’t need convincing but he sealed the deal for me. Now to save up the money and pull the trigger on it.

I am glad you highlighted the safety and the cost of an accident. I have a Sawstop and would never own a tablesaw that didn't have the flesh detecting brake. People can talk about how safe they are all day long, but if anything ever did happen, even the most minor nick that causes you to get a couple stitches, how much will that cost you? It is just a no brainer that the price premium is cheap insurance.

Saw Stop is also my eventual goal. Last year I cut off a knuckle's worth of finger and mangled another on a table saw. It was a moment of inattention resulting in a kickback that did it. Luckily it wasn't my whole hand, and I was just 10 minutes from the VA emergency room. I've got use of the fingers after a few surgeries and lots of physical therapy - but only about 90% grip strength and 75% flexibility, but it's a heck of a lot better than the alternative. First thing I did when I got back home after the first surgery that night, was order a microjig. It's made a difference. And I'm now so much more cautious using that saw, especially ripping and grooving boards (a 30% angle groove in a 1' long tubafer is what did me in).

Hello, I am new to your channel and I want to say that I appreciate you speaking about the goodness of god. I started watching because I am in the market for a sawstop. 3 weeks ago I had a severe injury on my tablesaw that caused damage to my left hand. I have had 4 surgeries to date. I am wishing I would have one before now, but that’s okay. I enjoyed your video and look forward to watching more of your content. I have a go fund me setup to help me get one and to help pay bills since I am a full time woodworker and not able to work for a while.

Great review! I got a saw stop over the Delta, because of the safety feature for my fingers. I have the contractor saw. At the end of the day it’s a hobby for me and I need my fingers. I’m fortunate enough to have a budget that allowed to pay way more. Definitely gives peace of mind around the shop especially with young kids that like to hang out with dad when he is building.
