Hello Sir, as always your videos are a gold mine. For my part, still on my project to import a vehicle from the USA. Your videos will be of great help if necessary for me. Many thanks for your work. Regards.

Nice work. I have a 1973 k5 blazer. I cant find the same gold rack you are showing. The ones I get are dormin and I have to grind them down to fit and they keep breaking. Please let me know thanks.

The one I used for the column rebuild is also made by Dorman. Sometimes modification and/or fabrication is the only solution. Dorman 83221 Rack and Sector Gear Kit amzn.to/3CoGSW1 Good luck! 🙂👍🏻

Hi there, this video is fantastic. I have a '63 Austin Healey Kit Car that has this exact setup. Im having issues finding the spring that you put in first. Do you know where I can locate one of these? Thanks!
@76vette2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kasey, Glad to hear you liked the video. Thank you! As far as the preload spring, you may want to check with a Chevy parts seller as some parts may be different from year to year. A quick search yielded this one from Eckler's, but you may find one for a lot less on eBay or even a local salvage yard. bit.ly/3C5Sb3D Good luck, and thanks for watching!

whats the part and year number for that sector kit? Thanks.

Thank you for this video am deal with an 80 Camaro which I believe has a different steering column but I have the same exact assembly as you but was wondering is the rubber spacer you made to keep it from pulling all the out and falling off the gears?
@76vette3 жыл бұрын
Hello. Most GM steering columns of that vintage are pretty similar. The purpose of the little rubber gasket I made is to keep the spring seated properly and in place so the lock pin would work. And it worked well. I made it out of necessity. Yours may not need something like it. 😊👍🏻

@@76vette thank you for the info also Im going to have to pull that rod that connects to the rack should I be cautious pulling it from the steering column is there anything I have to worry about? Also what did you use for a spacer on the spring?
@76vette3 жыл бұрын
You’ll need to remove the ignition switch so the rod can be taken out as one piece along with the rack or you can disconnect it from the rack itself if possible.
@peanut90873 жыл бұрын
@@76vette I have it completely taken apart right now and have to put it back together so I should probably hook up the rod to the rack first and then connect the back of the rod after everything's assembled?

Finally found the right video!! Do you know where I can get a replacement sector gear and rack??
@76vette2 жыл бұрын
Hello Paul, I bought this one from Amazon (link below). But make sure it will fit your vehicle. This one is made by Dorman so you can also get it locally from an auto parts store. They’re not expensive. The rack from this kit would have to be modified to work in a 69 column but they rarely fail so I reused the original. Again, make sure the replacement parts match yours exactly. Hope this helps. amzn.to/3wIFHOy

@@76vette and see I ordered that one and it's too wide. It's not even the one in your video

@@paulmorford4569 Bummer. I’d bring the old parts to the auto parts store and order through them. It’s been my experience that NAPA employees know their stuff a lot better than the average auto parts counter guy.

Also, I am sure a Corvette parts vendor would be able to help you.

What exactly was it doing that let you know it needed replaced?
@76vette3 жыл бұрын
It didn’t operate smoothly when you turned the key because of a chewed up sector gear, and you could pull out the key in any position.

Great video- thank you! I'm working on replacing a disintegrated sector gear in my 69 Camaro and this is extremely helpful! Do you think I should be able to remove and replace the sector gear through the ignition cylinder channel without disassembling the rest of the linkage and pieces?
@76vette3 жыл бұрын
Unlikely since the rack is under tension, which puts pressure on the sector gear. But you can give it a shot. You never know. Personally, I would take it apart to clean and lube it properly. That way you know everything is installed and working properly. Good luck! 😊👍🏻
