That lock is a beast. If you need a padlock to carry in a sock for self defense, this looks like a good choice.

That's a huge one. Great perceptively picking and very nice pins.

+Potti314 Thanks... picking an American lock is like coming home for me. I spent about a month picking nothing but locks with these cores when I first started. It's like riding a bicycle -- you never forget how.

I realize this is an old video, but I am currently working, and failing, on American Locks. You mentioned a “mushy feeling” then you noted “the pin wasn’t quite ready”. I’ve been feeling a “mushy feeling “ as well on some pins. Could you explain what that feeling is and how to deal with it? Leave it be or attack it? I appreciate any advice, and as always another solid vid.
@TheLemzia4 жыл бұрын
You are looking for pins that are Binding, in other words, when you touch the pin with your pick, it should feel like it doesn't want to move. When they feel "Mushy", that means that you are picking that pin out of order and after you find & pic a pin, then go back to the Mushy one and see if it is now binding. That is basically all there is to picking, it's keeping track in your head (or paper, if you are so inclined) of what pins are doing as you go from 1-5,6...etc. I am somewhat disappointed that it's been 2 years without a reply to your comment. LPL excluded, it seems it has been a few years since this was made. I do hope that you found someone to answer this question for you long before this and Good luck with your Picking!

Here from 2022. Went to the product website and saw this bad boy for $91.86. Not bad. I clicked on the “Product Videos” link and it brought me here. Only joking. Thanks for another great video.

That is one massive lock.

+TheMorePerfectWay Indeed. It's hard to appreciate it until you realize that the hardest part of picking this lock is holding it in your hand... its THAT big.

It looks the size of a lock Jabba the Hutt would use for his lunch box😂😂🔒🔒🔒 Nice picking Sir,clinical looking pins!👍👍😘😘😘

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! YAHH MO FO!! FINALLY PICKED MY 6 PIN AMERICAN A1100 SERRATED KEY PINS. 1 SERRATED SPOOL DRV , 2 QUAD SERRATED DRIVER, 3 SERRATED SPOOL, 4,5, & 6 ALL QUAD SERRATED DRIVERS couldn't sleep so I said the hell with work. got out the only lock I have that I couldn't pick. tried for 2 days and put it away. thanks for the videos. THANKS! You talking about that 3rd cut got me thinking I was oversetting my low cut serrated pins. I adusted strategy and it popped in less than a minute. one thing is you have to check with tension because you may have it picked and not even know it. I have got many false sets and failed. This time I didn't get that giant false set, it just popped when I applied extra tension after a pin set.
@Johnyrocket709 жыл бұрын
I used a gonzo because the first pin was a low cut gate keeper serrated key pin w a serrated spool. I never thought I would use that pick, I usually file them from deep hooks to med hooks.. It was a old southord slimline deep hook. All my petersons kept hitting the gatekeeper so I tried something new. I hate top of the keyway picking in hand but it did the job.
@lockpickinglawyer9 жыл бұрын
+JB Good work. Top of the keyway is definitely best for the American keyway.

I thought the A790 / A748 / A780 have stainless steel pins in them...
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
+ganzonomy That's not been my experience. In one of my early videos, I pick 2 748 padlocks. They have the some pins as this. The only American lock that I've seen with anti-drill pins is the old 747.
@nitramretep9 жыл бұрын
Sort of perverse! A massive lock and hasp but opened with ease, at least in your case. Where is the balance of mass and pick resistance? Why not consider a Medeco core or similar resistant cylinder?
@lockpickinglawyer9 жыл бұрын
+Peter M Agreed... I was similarly disappointed in my review of the 748 -- one of my very first videos. The short answer is that these locks are easy for practiced pickers, but very difficult for anyone else... even those with some picking experience. The lock guards against the most serious threat, and that is brute force, not guile.
