I've got two 17s at work that don't have keys. We suspected they were keyed alike. You can't disassemble the 17s so I had to pick it, not too difficult. Then I brought up the space and depth info and basically read by feel what each pin was when the lock was open and the pins were hard up against the inside of the cylinder. One successful key. The other lock is damaged though sadly, I've still not managed to pick it. I used the same method for a customer's lock. I was proud of that one because the senior locksmith said he would not have even taken the job. Thanks to yourself and Bill, I'm off to a flying start in my apprenticeship.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. To be fair, there are some ok locks in the lineup, mostly in the pro series... The ones where you can use your own core! Merry Christmas!

To be fair Master Lock can make a great physical body to put a core in. They just have a habit of putting bad corse in good bodies.

Of course a good lock from master lock and they don't make it anymore. They obviously didn't make enough money on it. Master don't care about quality, only $$$$$$$.

It has an interchangeable core, while master makes decent lock bodies the cores are shit.

Yes, the 19 is the biggest; I have read it is two pounds ten ounces, but I have not weighed it. (I only now thought of taking it to the scale at the stupormarket!) The body is three inches wide, two and three eighths tall. Half inch (1.2 cm) shackle. 1.5 inch shackle clearance. I am measuring these as I type them! Shackle height 1.5 inches in center, the curvature is very close to zero at three quarter inches above the body. The bitting looks like 0.015 taller than a Schlage blank, same length, six pins. My key gauges are stashed somewhere, but if it were a Schlage, I would figure the bitting as 053859, somewhat aggressive. Opening the lock is easy; locking it less so. Turning the key is needed for me to lock it, but the lock is key-retaining, so the key is readily available. Way back when, I bought both a 21 and a 27. These were rekeyable. The 21 is in Master’s current catalogue, the 27 is not. The 21 was a number 1, basically. The 27 had a very thick shackle, was the size (as I recall) of a 5. It had a five-pin cylinder, using the M27 keyway (what a surprise). There was an adapter to use an M1 cylinder in the 27. I have used/played with/installed/rekeyed Master products since I was six years old. That amounts to a little over six decades. Thanks to people using eBay, I have locks older than I, including a brand new Master #5 with the nickel-silver keys. Everyone will be surprised, I expect, to learn the lions on the M7 and M1 keys are different. There seem to be a few poses, actually. I enjoy watching your videos as much as I like keys and keying mechanisms. The actual locking parts are somewhat less interesting to me, as I am an electronics person, not a mechanics person-anything beyond a door-lock is beyond my skill set.

Master cop a lot of flak, especially from sport pickers, and most of it is deserved. The bean counters at Master seem to think that cheap and cheaper is the way to go. We use the Master Pro series, and fit BiLock cylinders etc. in the shielded shackle version. It seems that the lower priced padlocks with the 4 pin cylinders, could use some improvements ... Enjoyed the video, and the "Yale" profile is not the easiest, it would have to be ( with slight variations ) the most prolific of profiles - you made it look easy.Regards, Brian.

Thanks... And I agree about a few of the pro series locks. In fact, the door to my shed sports a kik pro series with a nasty core I pinned up myself. With a bilock and shielded shackle, I bet it's a formidable lock!

+JB Thanks for watching. I didn't meant to imply that padlocks capable of being keyed to a normal door lock keys were unusual... Master even makes a few of them now. I've just never seen this particular lock, or that capability in a laminated padlock.

@lockpickinglawyer9 жыл бұрын
The Emhart is very cool. The top and bottom pins lock together with a dovetail that only releases if the pin is rotated to the proper angle (like a Medeco). The cuts in the bottom are needed so the key doesn't bump the dovetail.

The comment I have is: That's bad ass! I've seen big Master locks before, but I had no idea some were made for KiKs. What do you think the weight is on that, LPL? I love picking padlocks, but I have a number of KiK cylinders. It would be cool to have one like this to use as a picking platform for those.

Thanks. No idea of the weight. Maybe 2 pounds. Just guessing. I'm not near the lock now.
