Edit: in order to put some meat on the bone in the comments - just wanna add, vis-a-vis street epistemology and beliefs, i think a "belief holder" can personally define their way past a WHOLE lot of argumentation, and it is very often definitions that an interlocutor will never make contact with, regardless anything, and IME, "unintelligent" people are simply bad writ large at abstraction, including hypothetical questions (which Peter touches on), but abstraction in particular about their own lives. sorry for sounding haughty. it is what it is. :D

I got to take Ancient Western Philosophy from Nick Smith in Portland over a decade ago. Top notch Platonic scholar. I wish we had learned how to actually conduct good Socratic dialogue. Peter’s book is helping, but I don’t know where to practice or who to practice with.

I'm a bit surprised Peter didn't mention it, perhaps it slipped his mind, but a couple of weeks ago during an interview with Stella O'Malley and Sasha Ayad on their podcast, he roleplayed a father speaking to his daughter who thinks she's trans. Helpful idea, take something that disturbs you and turn it into a question; example from Sam Harris, "Human beings don't have free will." That is a nightmare concept, and to get distance from the negative valence of the claim ask, Do human beings have free will?, and deeply engage with that with the hope that the idea becomes less terrifying.

If I had kids, I would be concerned because teachers spend eight hours around children. I'm against teaching religion and political ideology in schools. Children are being given antidepressants, and they are being burdened with so much. Adults are doing damage out of love.

If you accept that we human beings have little to no free will. And you consider Bernardo Kastrup’s theory to be correctly following on from that, then the fact that whether you want to or do not, whether you find yourself in revolt from the prospect of following that path, or do not, the truth is you don’t have a choice and when you know that you know it, because that’s who you are and this is what you are here to do, decision made. Like it or lump it you must follow through. So as you have found yourself here at this pivotal point in time Peter, given the skills you have and your values you are compelled to answer the call. And the suffering goes with it.

Yeah, I am terribly bothered by "gender affirming" care. And if it happens to truly be "care", clinical, medical or otherwise, i am not a licensed clinician trained to administer any care. So, I have no choice but to obstain from performing any "affirming" therapy... 🐿 Authority: "You must to affirm your child." You: "I can't, I'm not licensed or qualified."

I made sure my kids were able to hear a different view point. When they learnt some woke theory in school, I would give them real historical context. So if their "rainbow" teacher was indoctrinating them into BLM and white privilege, I would give them the world history of slavery and examples of real oppression today (e.g. life for women under the Taliban). If the far-left teacher taught them that everything from the right was bad, I told them about Stalin and the Holodomor. How faschism and communism are similar in their employment of totalitarianism. I taught them how extrem ideology on both sides of the political spectrum leads to piles of dead bodies, how the revolution always eats its children and how to never trust people that are trying to sell you utopia. I let them watch movies like: The Lives of Others, The Killing Fields, Persepolis, The Pianist. If you teach your kids history and to not uncritically believe everything their teachers and friends say, they are much less likely to be captured by a cult or ideology. It is also good practice to listen when your child talks to you about teachers and classmates. Then you can "psycho-analyze" people your child finds interesting or unsympathetic. This way, your child will learn about what motivates people and also how to recognize bullshitters & gas lighters.

Good for you, that's great. Wish all parents were doing that. So many parents don't know much history. Just breaking out a book with a kid is important. Learn with them if they have to. I would suggest watching some interviews with Solzhenitsyn then discuss with them. He wrote the Gulag Archipelago of course. His "Warning to the West", etc., excellent.

I love Peter, but I am not a fan of the many edits that seems to be in this video. 2:20 or so, 2:30 ... it feels like stuff has been cut out. Even if it's just ahem's and uhhh's, it makes it feel less accessible to me personally... most people might not even notice it.

I would have been ok with this exercise 10 years ago, but in public school now, kids are brutalized for not agreeing with the wokies... I don't want my children to be splayed out in this way.
