My Dad who is 88 years young has a '55 Studebaker President, and also has an extra Cadillac 500cu sitting in the shop he wants to do something with. He's been thinking of shoehorning the block into the Stude and making a tire broiling Studillac. It's bad when someone who's younger, me, do my best to keep him in check by reminding him all that it's going to take in order to make the car handle and stop with that beast in it. The ladies do love its Studebaker Pink/Black combo colors though, and always stop to talk.

All it needs is a fire-breathing powerplant, a tranny strong enough to handle all that power, an aftermarket brake system (a rear disc brake conversion kit is a must, because the drums can't handle it), and a 50s Caddy can be a scary street rod!

Really? Back in the day Cadillac was known for power and speed. Ever heard the song Beep Beep? its a comical parody of Cadillac. "I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to sport, beep beep". The Cadillac loses the race which is why it's parody. My dad had a '55 Pontiac gasser with a 365 Cadillac motor. He went with Cadillac because in the day, they were stout.

@@MrOiram46 It can go either way. If it's in that condition, you can either expect it to have a restomod with a bigger engine, or you can expect it to be restored to factory spec and be absolutely gutless.

@@shona5512 Yeah, but there’s now a stereotype that people expect this car being a hot rod. A good example of a true sleeper build nowadays is a Smart Car with a superbike engine or a Prius with a Hellcat swap. People expect both to be absolutely gutless rather than hot rods.

Back in 1964 my neighbor in Sierra Vista AZ bought a new 1964 Chevy Malibu 4speed, 327 250hp but with fuelie heads which is odd so maybe by accident it had 300hp. Anyhow it didn't have posi. One day we went on Charleston road, towards Tombstone. He lit up that tire and it just spun and spun. Over 530feet in first gear, he never got over 30mph. That's how all those cars are. Mustang, Malibu or boo hoo, they don't hook up. I had a wonderful B&W photo of the smoke drifting over the mesquite and chaparral but sadly, in my Yute, I threw it away. A sad day. And one day, on stock tires, (670x14?) we got up to 140-145mph. The speedo went past 6pm. close to 7pm. I went thru the Car&Driver etc and the speedo was accurate. We were flying. It was 1985 in my 59 Vette with nitrous oxide that went 170. ALSO: minute 3:18 "tech sheet" A 454 bored .060 gives a 468.. Then if you stroke it like .25 you get around 489. He said that but the display doesn't. I had a factory 454 bored 060 and rebuilt by Chevy.
