Holly is perfectly natural to worry about Ezra you did have an idea/ thought to move his therapy to a clinic. That is a good thing and hopefully the more time Ezra keeps going progressing in his therapies you feel comfortable. Might be hard/difficult at times hopefully will get better and I hope Ezra enjoys himself at his school/clinic

When I worked in a special school we had note books for each child so we could tell the parents what their child had done that day, what they had enjoyed etc. our children couldn’t tell their parents so the book helped a little to fill that gap. It was only to inform about the things the children had done, enjoyed, or what they had eaten for lunch etc. It was an friendly way of sharing those everyday things back and forth with the parents. Official communication stuff was done in the official way.

Hi Holly, it’s totally normal to feel that’s is hard to sent Ezra to ‘school’. But you also must be so proud that he did that. That he was totally wiped out makes sense because of Al the new impression. Ezra seems to love the people in your family and they love him. Your giving him the opportunity to care for others outside your family and they for him. Also don’t be afraid to ask about if he ate lunch. Your concerns are valid. This must have been such a hard decision for you both. I really think it’s going to be a good thing for him. I’m rooting for you and Ezra. In the long run this is good for you guys to have some me time during the day. ❤

Hello Holly I am a behavior technician working in a clinic for autism. We work on learning how to interact with peers and how to do life skills tasks we also work on table work like sorting writing and reading. And teach how to use the AAC device. At the clinic I work at we have an app called bright wheel which is an app where we check the kiddos in and out of sessions, we take pictures and videos of the client and if they are playing with a friend we make sure friends face is hidden behind something like an emoji. And we also update what the child ate throughout the day if they napped if they used the toilet or were wet. Maybe you can give that idea to Ezra’s school! Bright wheel is an amazing app and lets parents see the things the kids do throughout the day and gets pictures and videos of the child doing an activity

Love how patient these special ed classes have gotten. When I was toddler just gotten diagnosed with a disability, i was admitted to one of those facilities for school. I got banned from that program for having meltdowns back in 2000 (they didn't understand). Straight to public school. Then Voc Rehab (they help people with disabilities get jobs) were a lot more understanding of my needs 15 years later.

Back when I was in school in the 1980s and 1990s no one knew what sensory meltdowns and panic attacks were yet so at the time a lot of my behavior was classified as temper tantrums both in school and at home (and sometimes punished accordingly) even though I actually had relatively few temper tantrums even taking into account the entire time I was growing up.

Trusting strangers with your child is difficult, though there is one device some are using to check on their SEN children, the angelsense tracker, it is a tracker and a bug, with remotely triggered active listening, though depending on where it’s hidden in the child’s clothing, the sound quality may not be very good, also the legality of using a bug is another matter, the 1 way voice can be turned off for certain hours of the day.

A friend of mine has a grandson who is Ezra’s age and he is thought to have Level Two Autism (or at least something that resembles it). He has only been talking for about a year (with the exception of some echolalia before that). In the morning from nine to twelve they have him in a class that is technically a kindergarten class. As a result he is still technically considered to be in kindergarten. They have him placed this way because he is still toilet training, he is about Simon’s size or slightly bigger, and he still needs to work quite a bit on his social skills. In the afternoon for the rest of the school day they have him doing reading and math activities on the first and second grade levels and so far he is doing well at this (despite learning to talk so recently). Given that Ezra is still not verbal yet how different is his average school day from what I describe above? What is similar to my description above and what is different?
@7Aheadfamily
@7Aheadfamily 7 ай бұрын
Ezra mostly learns functional skills in his school right now. He’s learning spelling of his name and letters and he is still learning toilet training. He has one-on-one help from a therapist the entire 6 hours. They have cércale time when they read to the kids all together and he usually doesn’t sit for that for too long. They also have recess and play time and he lots of breaks when he can play on the trampoline and ball pit play area.

My heart went out to Ezra when he spit up his food. I'm an autistic adult with GERD and while I can manage my reflux symptoms fairly well with diet (for some reason cutting out grains works for me), I still take an H2-blocker every night. My quality of life is so much better with reflux meds. Do you think this is something that you could try for Ezra if his doctor gives the green light?

Thank you for sharing your experience. Ezra takes some acid reflux meds at night. It’s not strong stuff, just over the counter. He is gluten-free and has been since he was 1 year old. btw, watch out for Simon too. Most autistic people have GI issues, so there's a chance Simon might too in the future. Hey, I’m wondering in general (obviously we cannot say for 100% of cases) can we say that if an autistic person is high support needs they are very likely to have a comorbid condition and/or neurodivergence that makes their living and coping skills more tough (e.g intellectual disability, OCD, ADHD, epilepsy, motor disorder, eating disorders, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc.). FYI I’m 15 years old and am also on the spectrum and am glad to be who I am today. However I recognise however that it often may not manifest as positively in other people as it fortunately manifested in me. I’d technically classify as Level 1 autism similarly to Simon however I do notice even from my memories when I was his age that he and I are quite different individuals despite having a supposed similar level of functionality (albeit I do not really believe the current level system to be an accurate way of encompassing what is the autism spectrum, but it is what is legally used and what is commonly known and let’s be real I’d rather just have a level than be called disabled cuz I personally don’t see myself as disabled in any way). My observations are that at that age, Simon seems much more emotionally involved than I was. For me, I had quite precocious intellectual development so my brain wiring is very structured on noticing patterns in creations and computing calculations and visualisations in my head. In contrast however, I was very verbal at Simon’s age despite my lack of emotional attachment. I believe in Simon and hope to see the amazing things he does as he grows older. While I can’t completely resonate with Ezra’s situation (given I can understand his way of thinking cuz if we boil it down his brain structure follows the same foundations as mine but like in terms of struggles I cannot understand), I hope he can be happy in his own skin and carve his own life out of our big Earth web. Thanks for reading my super long comment which I most certainly was not originally intending to be more than 100 words. Take care all of you! ❤

Great question! It is a comfort and security for him to actually be in his highchair especially to eat. Otherwise he typically just won’t stay at the table because he’s too distracted. 😊

@@7Aheadfamily aren’t you worried about him tipping it over? He seems extremely strong! Maybe putting weights on the legs to hold it down? Have ti tried a booster seat that attached to a chair that clips him in? Do they make chairs for older kids?

I believe so, we could look into that. We actually have 2 high chairs and the other one is more sturdy, we should move that one upstairs. amzn.to/45x9OHs

Don’t hesitate to use acid reflux meds every night. My son has needed them since he was 1 week old. Of course, consult his doctor first. That acid in his stomach and coming up in the mornings can do horrible permanent damage to his stomach lining, esophagus, and teeth. Not to mention it’s miserable and makes him not want to eat.
@thomasschoeck9080

I also have acid reflux (technically GERD). I learned in the last couple of years during an x-ray to check for pneumonia (which fortunately came out negative) that my acid reflux is likely caused by a hiatal hernia (these run in my family). If Ezra has not been checked for this his doctor might suggest an x-ray (or other imaging) to find out if he has this and if so what should be done about it and when. Aside from that the most important thing is probably to keep track of Ezra’s weight and make sure that he doesn’t lose weight. It’s difficult to tell from a video but both Ezra and Simon look like they might be a little small for their age.

@@7AheadfamilyIn my case it helps to keep spicy foods to a minimum. I am able to eat onions without my acid reflux acting up but only if they are adequately cooked.

I think its awful to keep him home & sheltered all the time. He needs a break from you all & your home. Give him a chance 2 thrive & be on his own. How fair is it that Simon goes 2 school but Ezra cant. Plz remember your kids are a reflection of you as parents.. Do you all have a P.O Box we can send gifts 2?? Like new clothes, sensory items, etc!! Ezra seems 2 need clothes that fit, what size pants, a 6 or 7/8?? Most likely he was 2 excited 2 eat...
@7Aheadfamily

Thank you. Yeah that’s the problem with Ezra , because he’s so skinny. If you get him pants that are long enough, they just fall off, and he hasn’t managed to really keep a belt on very well. But his pants size is 6. 😊. Also, just so you know, Ezra did go to the same preschool as Ezra for two years, which he really enjoyed.
