Like the Aerialbots in War for Cybertron. Specifically during the final battle with Trypticon, and you watch them crash and blow up. I saw that (yesterday infact) and when, "Eh, they're fine." Sure enough, they were.

With regards to the mallet in Final Fantasy, it's actually a reference to a japanese tale about Issun-Boushi (yes the little fella who helps amaterasu in the game Okami.) The mallet is called Uchide no kozuchi ( lit."Tap-Appear Mallet") in the story Issun uses it to make himself full size, it also known for being able to shrink something. It's also a wish granter It's not a story westerners usually know about so the confusion is more than understandable. But knowing this you can see why the mallet cures mini.

I would've just assumed you clonk someone on the head and the bump swells so if you hit someone with the mallet when they're mini they'll swell back to normal size

Hello Jules. I just wanted to say, love your program, your videos. But mostly, wanted to say thanks. A big, heartfelt thanks. Your comments at the end of every video has helped me a lot. Been fighting with depression for a long time, and every chapter, every video, has been a really big help, a word of support, and motivation. You give me a good reason to keep fighting, knowing there’s people out there who care, who support, and give love in their form of beeing. Thank you very very much. Keep up the good work, you big lej!!

The mallet is a reference to Japanese folklore, where there was a mallet that was used to shrink and grow their protagonist. It's actually referenced heavily in okami in the section where you shrink down to the size of Issun.

I believe that the mallet curing Mini is a reference to the Japanese fairy tale of Issun, who has a mallet that let him change sizes. IIRC, Okami actually has a section where you use a mallet with similar properties to visit the people of Issun, your extremely tiny Navi-esque companion.

A couple others: - 'Left 4 Dead' series: the 1st aid aka medkit will heal you no matter what injuries or wounds you had, and prevent you from dying the next time you're downed by resetting your downed counter. - 'Arma 3': at least in our Server you use elastic bandages to stop bleeding by fixing your bullet holes, other injuries and wounds, use morphine to remove a specific amount of pain until you get hit again, use epipens to wake up unconscious humans once they're no longer bleeding and haven't lost too much blood and their heart is running, and you use saline (salt water) to incrementally restore someone's blood. There's the splint used to fix or support (depending on the Server settings) broken limbs, but that's not needed in the Server. There're other things such as plasma and actual blood, but although the blood packs do work we don't need them, and plasma ain't used but we also haven't tested if it works. There're other bandages too, but the elastic one is most powerful of them, and we don't need to worry about having to make the blood clot up. There's also the surgical kit for those reopening wounds, but it's not needed. There's also the adenosine injection used to lower blood rate, but that's never been needed but it works.

Awesome video Jules. And thanks for the motivational comments at the end. Here's a suggestion: How about a list of items/power-ups/etc. that you want to avoid in videogames. Example being that moment in space shooter games (like R-Type) where you are fully geared up, destroying everything on your screen and then you see that item that gives you that gun/laser/shooting form that you do NOT want.

I'm gonna need to correct you Jules on the Mallet. There's a specific reason why the Mallet cures Mini. It all trails back to an old Japanese folktale about a tiny child, (literally tiny, like small enough to use a rice bowl as a boat) who goes up against an army of Oni that was causing trouble in some way, armed with only a toothpick to use as a sword. He somehow succeeds, and so he could be tall enough to hook up with a certain girl involved in the story, he uses a magical hammer, or mallet, that whoever it hits, can grows taller. So he uses the mallet, and upon using it, he grows to being as tall as a regular human, and hooks-up with the girl in the story. And that's the brief rundown of the story. Because you didn't grow up with Japanese culture like I have, you wouldn't get this cultural reason why a hammer cures you of being tiny in FF7. We even see that same folktale's mallet being used in Okami, where you obtained a magic hammer from somewhere, and in order to progress the story, you have to grow small with the hammer's power (which has the growing power too, but you only use the growing power of it to return to normal size) to speak with the group of small people in the really tiny village your sidekick Issun (who's a reference to that specific tiny child from the folktale, but exaggerated) came from, but ran away from home. Also to note, Issun in Okami is both an artist, and a really tiny pervert. I assume you didn't play through the entire game of Okami, otherwise the mallet from FF7 would not be on this list since you'd understand why FF7 uses a mallet as a cure item for Mini.

The final fantasy mallet actually is based on an old japanese fable, “Issun-Boshi” where the protagonist is only about an inch tall. At the end of the story, he grows himself to regular human size using a magical mallet, thus being able to get married. If that answers any questions.

the Earth Mallet in FF is a Japanese thing lost in translation, basically. the uchi de no kozuchi (or magic hammer) is an item that can 'tap out' anything wished for. it's also referred to as a Lucky Mallet. in old tales, it was used to make people taller, like in the story of Issun-boshi. it's really not a weird item to cure Mini, but without knowing any of the Japanese lore for uchi de no kozuchi, it definitely seems strange.

Video suggestion: Games that changed us forever... Mine would be Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. This game came out when I was just 10. I was excited to be a Jedi and save the galaxy and put my name in Star Wars history, thinking "This is Star Wars. I'm the hero, no matter what"... I sunk more hours into this game then I had almost any other at that point. Then came the Darth Revan reveal. This changed that naive little boy who though good and bad was and clear as black and white forever... I actually stopped playing the game for a good 6 months at that point and only went back to it because I wanted to finish it before playing KotOR2

So let's say you're walking along, pretty hurt, and you looking around for a means of feeling better. Suddenly, you spy a floating cube in which is suspended a heart. What do you do? Well, if you're Mario in the first two Paper Mario games, you can hit it from underneath and get healed up to max. (In the second, you also cough up a number of coins depending on which one it is.) Okay, so this next one is a lot more common on the enemy side, but it's not unknown for being taken advantage of by heroes in some games. We all know the elemental rock-paper-scissors that goes on in many games, right? How if you hit an enemy with an attack that is of the same element as the target, the damage will be reduced, be nullified, or, as is relevant to this topic, actually heal the target. Well... yeah. Being hit by an attack can heal, even if it would make no sense that it would.

Well, in my mind, I always though that the Sacred Ash and the Old Gateau were odd items to heal in the Pokemon series. Granted, the former is kind of a reference as to how Ho-oh can be compared to a Phoenix and how these creatures are known for "rising out of the ashes", but if we go literally about it, your Pokemon heal with... ashes. And the Old Gateau? Nowadays we know that the name of this item is a pun, but back at the time, imagine finding out that a gateau is a cake, so to speak, and you read that an Old cake found in a haunted mansion heals the status of your Pokemon. So.... and old cake... probably an expired, old cake, heals your Pokemon...

The Mallet is part of Japanese Myths/fairy tales, it appeared in Momotaro and Isshun Boshi where the hero is usually written that the Princess used the mallet on the short hero to marry him.

Sharks lose teeth when biting Jules because shark teeth aren't attached to the jaw bone like human teeth are, they are attached to the gums instead so that makes that heal scene in farcry more plausible , idk why you choose farcry over runescape . ^^

Minecraft - fruit and veg coated in chemical element 79 (Au). Granted, it's not the only way to heal, and most of the others involve just eating food, but I've always thought it was weird that: a) covering apples or carrots in Gold is edible; and b) it only works with apples and carrots.

Another wired way to heal your character is to meditate, in the game rim world I think it is a mod I'm not sure but you can have a character with the monk trait and you can get the ablility meditie which can heal anything, from gunshots through the heart than eye shot out or your limbs benign cut off its weird and awsome

Probably a bit too early (October next month)...10 games that would be brilliant in the Horror Genre. These games have (had) solid sections of scary, but they “could” make the leap to a full game worth of fear. The Witcher 3. Final Fantasy Series (there is always a scary section, Parasite Eve showed what Square could do with horror). God of War. GTA in an end of the world setting. Those would be some examples I have.
