I'd love to see Drax again. He was a Time Lord the Doctor encountered in "The Armageddon Factor" (and an old college buddy of the Doctor's), and what makes him interesting is that he's the first rogue Time Lord the Doctor encounters who's not a hero or a villain, he's just kind of bumming around the universe doing odd jobs. In my opinion, this is what makes him relatable. He's the guy that any of us would have turned into if we never moved out of our parents' house until they finally gave us a TARDIS and kicked us out. He doesn't save planets or start wars, he does mundane jobs like *make deliveries* in order to get enough cash to buy his next meal.

What about the Rani and the Monk together? Rani's never been the primary threat of her own stories because she's not really evil. She just has no morals to stop her pursuit of science. Put her with the meddling monk and you've now got a duo whose goals compliment each other, and can do far more damage together then they could do apart. In short, I loved the Rani, but you couldn't really make her that different from Missy in a solo story, and she's always worked better with somebody to bounce off.

11:21 The Time Meddler. The Meddling Monk was his merchandising nickname. Wow, I'm such a tool. The Celestial Toymaker: An immortal being so bored with immortality that he's completely fine with his entire universe getting destroyed because it'll give him something to do. The Monoids: Just a sucker for the design. It's so ridiculously unthreatening. The Sensorites: I feel an episode featuring them and the Ood working side-by-side would be decent.
@CodeAndGin
@CodeAndGin 6 жыл бұрын
With the sensorites - an episode showing the Ood getting enslaved and what the sensorites did at the time would be cool - maybe have the sensorites be attacked too but the doc saves them - knowing s/he cant save the ood because blah blah fixed points (and also would screw with donna's timeline which he does not want to do)
@bentonbravo3404
@bentonbravo3404 6 жыл бұрын
CodeAndGin That's actually a decent idea. The very episode that dealt with the Ood's slavery was the one that revealed they inhabited the same region of space as the Sensorites. Now the Sensorites weren't _the biggest_ fans of alien life, but I think they wouldn't have been completely apathetic to the enslavement of a species with which they shared an evolutionary parity.

9 - Jamie McCrimmon. One of the most beloved companions in the show’s history deserves some closure - he first appears in the highlanders which is set in Scotland in I think 1746, and even though I’m not sure if his age is specifically said but I’m willing to suspect he’s in his mid-20s or early 20s and I know his actor Frazer Hines is incredibly old now, but that’s the point. Imagine if we fast forward to a point in Jamie’s life where he’s as old as Frazer Hines is and how much of a turbulent period in history he’s lived through and how he’s adjusted to it all, plus in the war games, the time lords erased Jamie and Zoe’s memory of their outings with the doctor, but not all of them. If I’m correct, jamie still has his memory of the events of the highlanders and Zoe still has her memory of the events of the wheel in space. So imagine a sub plot as well of the doctor trying to help Jamie remember and eventually he does and the emotional weight of him just tearing up and remembering the bond they had how they were basically best friends and finally having that time back, how powerful would that be? I just think that could be great.

The only problem is that Season 6B exists and in it Jamie has his memory back
@satkirankaur550
@satkirankaur550 6 жыл бұрын
George Pearmain I grew to like Jamie from the novelisations years before I saw him on the show. I also realised the flaw in "The five Doctors" when the second Doctor surmised that the Jaime and Zoe he encountered could not be real as they recognised him after the time lords wiped their memories of him at the conclusion of " War games". It was however clearly stated by the time lords that they would retain their memories of their respective first encounter with the Doctor in the stories you mention. However Zoe would also remember Jamie as he was the Doctor's companion during the "wheel in space" but Jamie would not know Zoe as he would not remember travelling with the Doctor after the events of "The Highlanders". Therefore the second Doctor's conclusion was faulty and could have resulted in the deaths of his former companions. I wouldn't mind for a return of an older Jamie McCrimmon as portrayed by Frazier Hines but since the relaunch of Doctor Who I have toyed with the idea of a new Jamie McCrimmon. I once read in a comic strip story that Jamie had subconsciously retained memories of his exploits with the Doctor which came back to him in visions and dreams. His talk of monsters and the future resulted in him being somewhat of an outcast in his community. I hypothesised what if his tales became family folklore and a namesake descendant of his who had grown up on them encountered the Doctor and realised that they were all true. This Jamie McCrimmon could be either male or female as the name works equally for both genders.

The Rani is actually on my list, mostly because I'd like to see variants on "evil Timelord" that we haven't gotten in NewWho. I'd love to see her doing something that would undeniably help millions of people, say curing some disease, but is killing people to do it. The amoral scientist Timelord would be a great villain for the Doctor. The Monk should have been the villain of Knock Knock, where he's feeding the dryads because otherwise they'll eat him. Keep the casting, that would have worked brilliantly, and it structurally helps Series 10 by introducing a non-Doctor Timelord and the concept of regeneration before we meet Missy, which, if we're assuming that Series 10 is a jumping on point, would help with the sudden shift to following up on existing storylines later on. (the Monk episodes being good would have helped too) Romana is on my list because she's great and brilliant and yeah she should be back anytime. I'd also kill to have Jamie return for a big two-parter that closes his story. And Susan! She would have wound up involved in the Time War, (and Big Finish have done a story to that effect now), but hopefully she didn't die? I dunno, I think that the time has passed for that. She should have returned instead of David Bradley as Doctor#1 in Twice Upon a Time...

I'd like to see 4 characters : - Romana (or Fred if she decided to finally go by Fred😁). Freshly regenerated and ready for new adventures! She didn't wanted to go back to Gallifrey anyway. But I like your idea of Romana being up to the same thing as the Doctor. And if I could choose; I'd like to see her portrayed by Hayley Atwell ^^ - Liz Shaw - because I really liked her. Liz was smart and independent. With a sceptical side that I enjoy. She had too little screen time and they missed the opportunity to have a really strong companion (even if I love Jo who comes just after her). Could be great to meet her again for a little brainy war 😁 - Ian and Barbara Chesterton. Because they're the first human companions of the Doctor (for what we know). They had a big impact on him. Unfortunately they wouldn't be portrayed by Jacqueline Hill and William Russell (I know he's alive but he's 93 so let's leave him alone ^^). But according to The Sarah Jane Adventures they "don't age". So why not bring Jamie Glover and Jemma Powell (who portrayed the actors in An Adventure in Space and Time) and let the Doctor be confused by their still-young faces ?

Actually, I would HATE it if the show confirmed the rumor of Ian & Barbara not aging to be true and not just because I'm a Big Finish fan and they have clearly aged in some of their post-exit appearances/mentions in the audios. More than that, they were never the kind of people who would ever want to be unaging. It would be a horrible fate for them, as it would make it impossible for them to live normal lives, something that they very much wanted to do. Even after they came to enjoy their travels with the Doctor, they still took the first opportunity they had to go back to their home and regular day-to-day lives. They were the kind of people who appreciated normality and the little things in life, so I much prefer to think the unaging thing really was just a rumor and that they did, in fact, age as I would never wish lack of aging on them.

Everything and the TARDIS console Well Sarah Jane told the kids "rumor has it, they've never changed". Someone could decide that the rumor is not necessarily a rumor. That's actually why I mentioned this. But I agree with you. They didn't seem to be the kind of people that would want to be unaging

Would love to see Romana come back back! Not as a companion though, just as a friend or possibly in another Black and White Guardian story as that was when she was introduced. Would like to see another Time Lord travel with the Doctor as a companion though. But probably would have to be young in their life cycle, 100 years or so, like Romana was. Also pretty much agree with everyone on this list, though would be a different order possibly.

@rosco31100
@rosco31100 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think he's meant to be a Universal God (Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not). And not all Time Lords are equal. Romana started off some what naive and smugish but then grew over time. She was younger and knew all the theoretical stuff but had no practical, and you could argue the Doctor is the most practical Time Lord because he actually gets involved in the universe unlike the rest of his kind.
@peytonmac1131
@peytonmac1131 6 жыл бұрын
I meant it semi- sarcastic. He's reset the universe, has daleks and cybermen running away just by yelling at them, and even has other timelords scared because he doesn't carry a weapon. He's become too big, too powerful. In the original series he had limits, he even met people smarter than him, more capable. He failed his entrance exam to be a timelord and had retake the test, only passing with a 51% What made him special wasn't that he could do things others couldn't, but that he was willing to do the right thing when others wouldn't. As others have said, he always used to be a rebel. He disliked what the timelords did, or didn't do. New Who turned him into a guardian of time, righting wrongs across the universe. The timelords as a whole were almost all powerful, but even they take a back seat to what the Doctor and his obsolete TARDIS can do.

Neither the fact that one must graduate from the academy to regenerate nor the fact she didn't eventually do so anyway have been put into canon. The novel's, comic's, and audioplay's quasi and and sometimes contradictory "canon" can be used or ignored as needed. Personally, I like the idea that "Time Lord" is as much a species as it is a title. All Gallifreyans have some level of tempral understanding as a matter of biology and with that, at least the potential, for regeneration. The Academy helps hone and train such process and is required for official status as a Time Lord on title, but it may not necessarily be the _only_ road for that. Especially if one considers some potential rule bending to accommodate the Lord President's granddaughter. ;-)

I think that comparing Rose to Ace is being really horrible to Ace. Rose would always cry and sob, yet Ace was very strong and had genuinely horrible and dark issues but she remained strong on the outside. She had a lot more depth than Rose, so it's ridiculous to compare the two
@theoutcastboi
@theoutcastboi 6 жыл бұрын
Well, I don't think Rose would always cry and sob, but other than that, I agree. Ace had to deal with being manipulated by the Doctor, her friend and kinda father figure (in the novels, the Doctor even manipulates the situation so that someone she falls in love with kills himself). When did Rose have to deal with something like that? Rose may have been through some rough times, but she was never manipulated by the Doctor and she was never betrayed by the Doctor.

Omega was a great antagonist - he was the big bad villain in the first multi-Doctor story, the tenth anniversary of Doctor Who adventure called 'THE THREE DOCTORS.' An adversary that was so dangerous, the Time Lords sent all three of the Doctors to tangle with the problem. I think that the Third Doctor told his companion Jo Grant that the stellar engineer called Omega was one of his most revered heroes. In quite a few ways Omega as a character is a tragic villain. He did make another appearance as an antagonist in Doctor Who, facing off against Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor in a good story called 'Arc of Infinity.'

During the years that Doctor Who was in television hiatus there was very little time that novels weren’t being produced that kept his Adventures going (and even telling new ones for earlier versions). Until the movie in 1996 Virgin Book were telling these stories (and still did so for some years later). Ace ended up joining the military after she grew up; the military in a space age of human development far from the time of her birth. She later hooked back up with the Doctor, this time often wearing futuristic powered combat armor and advanced weapons, filling a roll with a few other companions similar to UNIT, but one that traveled with him.

There is a potential Romana already out there if they were to want to go there: Juliette Landau (aka Druscilla from Buffy/Angel). She has portrayed a future incarnation of the character alongside Lalla Ward in Big Finish audios, and would be fascinating in that part.

Man bringing back Omega is such a rich prospect! He literally conjured up a universe from his own imagination, think how wild the prop designers could be with that (You could have his whole backstory mapped out as literal wall dressing without ever discussing it), even his globy assistant monsters could really be something special with the right creative minds behind it.

Oh as for the two guardians. They were indeed a big part of The Key to Time season - which also introduced Romana as a character, as played in that season by the lovely Mary Tamm (RIP). The Guardians made a reappearance in 1983 in a part of that season known as the Black Guardian Trilogy. The Black Guardian wants vengeance and has an agent of his own with orders to kill the Doctor. The trilogy is made up of 'MAWDRYN UNDEAD' (which also features a retired Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart working as a maths teacher at a boys boarding school - and Turlough (one of the teen-aged pupils) agrees in a deal to serve the Black Guardian against the Doctor); 'TERMINUS', and finally 'ENLIGHTENMENT.'

Interesting list, though I don't get the hatred for the Rani, personally I'd love to see a strong, amoral, female scientist who sees the Doctor as a potential equal but with too many emotional hang ups that he can't achieve everything he could be, but is rife for manipulating. Also things that would be on my list that aren't on yours, The Mechanoids, the Celestial Toymaker and the Valyard. Though I have to say you sold me on a buddy cop series with the Monk.

The Meddling Monk would be awesome to have back. I think he could be turned into a whole series arc. Maybe have small details that the Doctor would point out saying he/she doesn't remember it like that throughout a series, and have the finale be us finding out it was the Monk, and him and the Doctor go round changing everything back before the whole universe implodes... Or something like that.

According to the TV Tropes website, the Meddling Monk's first story was "The Time Meddler" (Series 2, Story 9); this was confirmed by Wikipedia. The story was broadcast from July 3 to July 24 1965. Imho, it would be challenging to find an actor with the right combination of comedic timing and dark cunning after seeing the character so well portrayed by Peter Butterworth... but it would be worth it to see someone try.

I like the idea of an episode that is the Doctor and companions on a planet caught in the middle of the war between the Sontarans and the Routons. The Tardis crew wouldn't be trying to put a stop to the whole thing, it would be far too out of hand as soon as they got there. They would just helping groups of people where they could.

15:39 It’s what they did with the Master. And the Doctor, too. It’s literally _the thing to do_ when bringing back a Classic Who Timelord. And considering how good Romana was in her day, I think brining her back is a fantastic idea. Perhaps Ward could reprise her role at first (just like McCoy did in the movie) and not too far into the story, regenerate.

Please do a video on why the Rani shouldn't be in new who - I personally feel that she would make a great addition to the reoccurring villains, especially now as missy is dead and cannot regenerate (specifically said by the master). Sure she had a disastrous set of appearances in classic who but that is all the more reason to bring her back - make a bad villain a memorable one. She could take on the role of classical mad scientist well, filling in a role that no other character has in new who (you can argue Davros but he is restricted to Daleks really and it would be hard to branch him out of that shell unless we went back and saw a pre - Genisis of the Daleks version of him). Personally I enjoyed the premise of her first appearance, experimenting on humans, and I feel that there is room for a very fun double episode here, as a way to properly introduce her to the new fans (who may not have the unfortunate experience of old who her) as a new big threat to the doctor. Just my opinion however, and I totally get that you may think differently 😊 P.S. You're a great channel - keep up the good work!

Why can't Missy rwgenerate? Because the master used his laser screwdriver on her? Why is that a reason? She's a future version so she could've made a countermeasure in the meantime.
@alcuinreid6226
@alcuinreid6226 6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Halliwell remember: she only has very very very small snippets of memory left, and John Simms Master specifically said the energy level he used blocked a time lords capability to regenerate. There is the possibility that they decide to say that her memory managed to bring through one thing and she made a countermeasure to the screwdriver but it would ruin the emotional impact of that scene. As well as this, this countermeasure would have had to have happened during season 10, and the latter part of it as she is isolated in the vault with minimal tech before she joins the TARDIS - the doctor would have noticed equipment missing and then would have known all about the master being on the space station, thus retconning much of World Enough and Time and The Doctor Falls. It just isn't a particularly viable option.
@AndrewHalliwell
@AndrewHalliwell 6 жыл бұрын
Depends when she came up with it. She had access to a time lord matrix before the big "who is missy" reveal after all so it's not beyond all comprehension she could've come up with something.

Andrew Halliwell but before she travels with the doctor she would rather die than stand with him, and would therefore not want to stop this from happening. I always thought it would be neat for The Doctor to find Romana II (Lalla Ward) secluded away on a remote planet, having escaped the Time War with Leela and her children (Andred was killed in the War), and the two K-9's. Maybe she and Leela saved a large group of Gallifreyans from the wilderness when the war broke out. Romana would be trying to create a legacy colony of Gallifreyans, as she knew a war with the Daleks would consume her home planet. By the end of the story you could have Leela pass away from old age (or die saving The Doctor) and Romana regenerate into the new companion...

As to Romana: She was Lord President of Galifrey for a long time. This is true through most of the BBC novels after the 1996 movie as well as a number of Big Finish productions. That was her regeneration after returning from e-space. I haven’t the foggiest idea how her term ended, but the time war did wake up Rassilon, so whoever was in charge at that time would have been forced to abdicate to their first and eternal head of state. A note on Omega coming back. He’s of the same circle of Galifreyans as Rassilon, the ones that have unlimited regenerations. Rassilon himself put limited all the others (though not himself), but Omega had already vanished in the anti-matter universe and was presumed dead. Raises interesting questions.

The Black Guardian pops up again in the 5th Doctor's run, as part of the trilogy of stories that introduces Turlough - Mawdryn Undead, Terminus and Enlightenment. I'd love to see Ace again - and that Nitro 9 she's NOT carrying. It doesn't matter if Gallifrey exists or not in New Who, because Romana left the Doctor to live in E-Space. She wasn't affected by anything that happens in our space. I completely agree with you about Omega. He was such a great character. 'The Time Meddler' is my favourite First Doctor story, tied with the very first story, 'An Unearthly Child.' I don't know how he would fix his TARDIS to keep on meddling, but I'm sure the writers could come up with some great ideas. I would love to see Jamie and Zoe again. They are my favourite companions, and it was such a shame when they left when the Second Doctor regenerated. I don't know why you don't want The Rani back, but I honestly feel like it would have been better to have the Rani than to have the Master become the Mistress. New Who made the mistake that Classic Who made during the 3rd Doctor's era - they over-used the Master. The Rani isn't really that type of villain (she's more pragmatic and more of a villain in the evil scientist way, rather than just bent on destruction and/or power the way the Master is) but series 8 could've been written to match that and that would've improved it no end. The moment for bringing the Rani back feels like it's kind of passed now.

The thing about Tegan is she kind of left on bad terms and it would be interesting to see how she deals with The Doctor again. She's seen a regeneration, so wouldn't need much filling in and we've seen in the new series that The Doctor is somewhat better known, at least as a web legend. Sgt. Benton, mainly because we can't ave The Brigadier The War Chief, mainly to find out who he was. He was mostly the prototype Master, but he's kind of a loose end.

Romana is such an obvious choice, especially since she became president of Gallifrey just before the Time War broke out according to Big Finish stories, it really surprises me they haven't brought her back yet. I'm still convinced that the Time Lady in The End of Time who voted against bringing Gallifrey back and tried to warn the Doctor was a version of Romana.
