This video was 10x more helpful than any of the lactation consultants I've spoken to. The advice I keep receiving is "keep trying" and "make sure you're pumping from 12am-5am." Baby literally takes 1-2 hours to eat and go back down. After pushing it, we got in to see a specialist who confirmed the baby has a lip and tongue tie. We are still struggling, but this info was very helpful.

I mention “nipple to chin”, this wasn’t overly clear communication on my part! We aren’t aiming the nipple down to the chin…you’re gonna lead with baby’s chin with the nipple aimed up, aimed at the nose, and then baby can come up and over the nipple to fully latch on, which will help get a deep latch. I hope this didn’t confuse anything ❤

This video is so much better than lactation consultants that rush in the room, start yelling at you, grabbing your boob and aggressively shoving it in your babys face until you’re both crying and then getting frustrated and leaving you there to cry

I had a lot of trouble breastfeeding at first and had to call the nurses in frequently to help me and pretty much every single one of them grabbed my breast and shoved it in baby's mouth! One nurse one time even pinched my nipple super painfully (I'm very sensitive and also have 0 pain tolerance!) to shove in baby's mouth! My Mom said she had the same experience when I was born, too.

You’re gonna listen to whoever gives you the advice that works! I’m not a lactation consultant just a registered nurse who talks about initiating breastfeeding with everyone who wants to know how after birth, someone who loves to soak up information and someone who breast fed 4 of my own. I do hope to become a LC one day because I love helping people with breastfeeding so so much!!

Hey, first time mum here who had plans to breastfeed & pump but currently on the breast only as all the pumps I tried hurt so much! Electric, manual, haakaa, etc. I don't know what I might be doing wrong, but the suction for some reason just feels tight and painful and gradually gets worse the longer I use them. The only way I can express without pain is by hand, which hurts the back to lean over and express into a bottle/haakaa pump to catch it. Do you maybe have any advice for someone breastfeeding struggling to pump?
@hannahwillams9602
@hannahwillams9602 11 ай бұрын
@@안단테샤넌 maybe the suction is too high and between sessions rub some lanolin cream or breastmilk on your sore areas to help heal any sore areas. Also speak to a lactation consultant as I am not trained in any of that. But I do want to say I hate you are going through that and you are incredible for going through what you have. No matter what is fed to your baby breast, or formula you are still an incredible mom and your baby will be thrive.

I think relaxing is very important.. not just because it can put baby on edge but because your body might not cooperate. This could be as severe as impacting milk supply or maybe just a limp nipple. I firmly believe my stress and perceived lack of support made it very difficult for my body to function correctly and made it impossible to latch. Once I was able to relax and tell myself “we will get this”, my nipple seemed to become erect much more easily.

I learned this while breastfeeding my 3rd baby. He was very impatient and I realized that my stress was actually preventing my "let-down" reflex from happening. I had to get creative and find ways to distract both of us in order to successfully feed him. Watching TV, listening to music, looking through photos, etc ...

After getting back home it was so hard as the latching hurts so bad and i had sore bleeding nipples. I couldn't stay in a good position due ti the pain from my incision and then i started to combine feed my baby. Eventually i reduced the formula and started pumping when my nipples healed. im still struggling to get a good latch some days it wirks some days it doesnt and i felt so bad to put my baby in such a uncomfortable situation. Now this video gives me hope that ill be able to do better ❤ thank you for explaing so well. Helps alot of new moms who are struggling like me ❤

I'm pregnant with my 2nd and I had so much trouble with my first. I was seen by 8 different lactation consultants and NONE of them were 1/8th as helpful as this video. They never even checked for tongue or lip tie (I never even heard of lip tie until a doula I had met noticed my daughters, when she was 1 1/2). They kept telling me my daughters difficulty latching was my "bad for nursing nipples", instead of teaching me how to properly prime them. AND they gave me so much anxiety because she was "losing too much weight" which they said was because I wasn't producing enough. The reality was that she lost 15% instead of the preferred 10 in the first 24 hours, but that was because I had a LOT of IV fluids in the 24 hours before she was born. They then told me if I wasn't getting a lot with a pump I must not be producing, which me not becoming engorged was also apparently evidence of. They had me on the pump every minute my daughter wasn't on me and using nipple shields. Which I kinda think was responsible for me getting thrush that wouldn't go away for 8 weeks. Never once did they mention that many moms don't surplus produce, then maybe I could've considered that I was the kind that produces on demand. Ultimately all this led to me feeling insanely anxious and gorging myself trying to get my supply up. I would power pump through the night, so upset that I couldn't make my supply "come in". Finally my Dr. insisted I quit for my mental safety. I'm still a bit upset about it. But I finally get another shot! Ladies, don't give up and don't fall into these myths!

This video is a great help for new mothers. Even at the best hospitals it seems that nursing assistance is lacking. I never had such great instruction, and neither did my daughter or daughters-in-law. I wonder if other women experienced the following situation as I did. I had my fourth baby at noon. By late afternoon my milk was already coming in. I’d nursed my other babies so I knew the fullness and the let down reflex. My nurse chuckled and said it wasn’t possible, but it was happening!

Don’t know if you’re still answering comments on this video. But you have the most informative videos I’ve found on both tiktok and KZbin. Do you have any tips for very busty women with very small babies? I’m 44K (cup) struggling with my 6 week preemie who prefers the bottle now and my milk supply is decreasing while his hunger is increasing

Love all your content and this very important and helpful information. One comment, I learned in LLL that having baby's jaw lower on the breast ensured a more nursing action on the breast tissue - rather than aiming the nipple toward their chin. I was encouraged to let baby's chin press into the breast tissue which also left a little more air space for breathing.

So yes I did a pinned comment. Baby should lead with the chin and make contact with chin first. Then reach over the nipple to latch. Nipple pointing towards the nose

On my 3rd baby, 2 days PP. I tense up from the pain in my nipples when she latches. Even when the LC came and helped with the latch and positioning it’s still painful. I’m cracked and sore. People say it’s not supposed to hurt but it hurt me with the last babies too. And it makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong.

I’m so sorry to hear this. If your nipples are cracked try silverette nursing cups! Little breast milk in them then over your nipples between feeds to help heal and keep fabric from rubbing off healing tissue. Also how’s your supply? Has baby been assessed for a lip or tongue tie?

Baby chiropractic care worked wonders for me and my baby girl in 2022. It was expensive but they said it’s possible the way baby pushed against my pubic bone during birth, caused tightness in her jaw. I had a lactation consult come to my home also with both babies. After my first I thought I was an expert… silly silly girl 😂🤦🏼‍♀️😮‍💨

Hi just had baby 5 days ago and about ready to just pump only because my nipples hurt so so bad. They are cracked and too painful to latch baby. It seems that no matter how many times I try she ends up with a shallow latch. No ties found. I’m just frustrated because I am trying so hard and it hurts so bad I want to cry. I will try the nipple to chin suggestion since the other isn’t working for me. I feel like my nipples are so big that she can’t get a big enough mouth and keep her chin and bottom lip on the breast tissue. Anyway a rant but I just hate that this hurts so bad.

My first baby had a lip tie and definitely had issues breastfeeding. I showed it to her pediatrician to see if we should get it clipped, and he basically told me that she’s gaining weight and to not worry about it. Yeah… because I was pumping in order to feed her 🙄 I should have just gone to a dentist myself and asked them to do it lol

Ive heard things with oatmeal in them are great for breastfeeding. I would stick to things that are crunchy to keep me stimulated and awake at night time feedings, snacks that have protein in them for sustenance. Think about nuts, yogurt, granola, fresh and dried fruits...

I hope things are better for you now! I know when I had my baby he didn’t want to latch either my lactation consultant told me to boop his nose the top lip then gently pull the chin down and the mouth should open up. I would pinch my areola so I could get him to take in as much as he needed. If they don’t stay latched try expressing a little for them and try again or try to express some while you are in their mouth it can be tricky to do this and not break their seal but it is possible! These are just things I learned. I hope it helps if not definitely try to reach out to a lactation consultant! Don’t get discouraged and try to stay relaxed!

Hi, thank you for the informative video. Great descriptions and advice. Unfortunately ive not had any support with breast feeding this time around and struggling at the moment. Do you have any tips on breastfeeding when engorged? My milk came in on day 3 and since baby can't get a deep enough latch and breasts are rock solid so can't manipulate to help. I've tried pumping some milk off before a feed and also using a warm compress but it is really hit and miss on if he can latch now so I'm having to pump Milk and bottle feed at the moment. I'd love to be able to breastfeed exclusively again. Thank you
@mamanursetina
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
The best advice is to pump milk off first so they can get a hold of the nipple and areola. Other than that you can try feeding after a shower so the breasts are a bit softer. Or gentle massage first to soften them up. Or you can try feeding baby more often so there’s not as much of an build up inside of the breasts (sounds counterintuitive…but you’re not emptying the breasts to tell your body to make more and over supply you’re just making it so the milk has an easier time moving). And you can ice between feedings for swelling! Try some of those!

Hi. I'm 8 months preg and trying to learn all I can. Can we use a nipple shield for ALL the breastfeeding sessions right from day 1?
@mamanursetina
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
So lactation consultants will advise against this as it can affect your supply. I would try without it and see how it goes, try these other tips to get a great latch. If you’re still using pain the nipple shield can absolutely be a great tool but you should try to get yourself off of it once baby establishes a good latch

My baby boy is 20 days old and I am exclusively breast feeding him using silicone nipple shields. If I remove them he isn’t latching my nipples. I do think i have enough supply of milk as he is positively gaining weight but i am worried about usage of these tiny shields. Please help and great video btw. Love from India ❤
@mamanursetina
@mamanursetina Жыл бұрын
Personally I believe if your baby is gaining weight and showing signs that they are not hungry and have enough wet and dirty diapers then your supply isn’t being damaged by the shields! What I would do is every feed get your letdown get baby going on the shield then after a bit quickly pop the shield off and get baby right back on and see. You might be surprised one day baby just takes the breast. That’s what I did. I was persistent and would try every feed. I wouldn’t let baby get super mad or fussy about it though-it was try and if it was a no go then meh it was a no go for that session and back on the shield went🩷

Nurse Tina, thank you for this excellent video. I have an early termer struggling to latch, WITH large breasts and very short, slightly inverted nipples. Every attempt results in her screaming, even if she isn’t particularly hungry. I’ve visited a lactation consultant, no luck. Which position would you suggest?
@qrpcoaching8198
@qrpcoaching8198 2 ай бұрын
first, apply very cold water on your nipples to get them to stand out. Lay your areola to your baby's mouth. Best poosition is baby lyong down, breast above the mouth,. Let's see if that helps.
