That Kyrie Irving/Isaiah Thomas trade was ultimately good for Cleveland. The Cavs also got Boston's 2018 first-round draft pick in the trade, which turned into Collin Sexton, and then Cleveland traded Sexton to Utah for Donovan Mitchell. I'd say that's a win for Cleveland!
@mpc91 Жыл бұрын
It wasn't great for Boston, just for getting Kyrie Irving. They were better without him. An injured Isaiah Thomas was better than a sulking Kyrie Irving. The 1st round pick they got was actually Brooklyn's, the third one from the Pierce-Garnett robbery. The Celtics used their own pick at 27 to get Robert Williams.

None of those trades is more horrible than this: Heading into the 1980 NBA draft, the Boston Celtics lost Dave Cowens to retirement and had Larry Bird ready to start his second NBA season. The Celtics held the number-one overall pick in the draft. On June 9, 1980, in a pre-draft trade, Celtics president Red Auerbach dealt the top overall pick and an additional first-round pick to the Warriors for Robert Parish and the Warriors' first-round pick, the third overall. With that pick, the Celtics chose Kevin McHale. The Warriors then selected Joe Barry Carroll with the first pick. Parish and McHale joined Bird on the Celtics, forming what is often considered the greatest frontcourt in NBA history, appearing together in five NBA finals and winning three championships over seven seasons during the 1980s.

I think the fit beteween Gobert and KAT is not good because, the difference beteween Kat and the other centers in the league is the fact that he can shot 3's but now he will be a PF which does he lost his differencial because now he is a PF and he has to shot 3s because Gobert is gon be in the paint every time, and I think this can make Anthony Edwards worse too because now the paint is gon be ocupated every time cause of Gobert and Towns and He is not gonna dunk every time like last year. I’m gonna push back on the Kawhi Leonard thing, as I think it’s unfair to the Pacers. 1. The NBA does not allow teams to finalize trades on draft day. It’s disingenuous to say the Pacers “drafted and gave away Kawhi Leonard”. While technically accurate, in reality, the Spurs acquired the 15th pick from the Pacers for George Hill, then selected Kawhi Leonard. 2. George Hill was a starting point guard for 5 years on a team that made back to back conference finals. When you strip back the name Kawhi Leonard and acknowledge they got they quality for a mid first rounder, it’s not amazing but it could be a lot worse. 3. This one is a bit more controversial, but I struggle to see Kawhi developing into a superstar in other franchises. Especially with Paul George likely ahead of him in the depth chart and the Pacers likely not having the foresight at the time to view them being capable of playing together. This one just has too much hindsight for me, most of the other trades had the warning signs at the time, not the same as a mid first for an average starting PG.

Boston's Kyrie trade not one of 8 worst. Boston went to the ECF in the first year. Yes, Kyrie missed the playoffs but during the year, he was ballin'. We know it didn't end well. But far cry better than the way it turned out in Cleveland. They got Sexton in the pick but he's meh.
@tjv29242 жыл бұрын
I dunno about all that. Cavs were able to trade Sexton for Mitchell and not to mention all the players the got for trading Isiah and Crowder. Players like Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance and etc. Boston def took the L on that one.
@mr.brownstone57162 жыл бұрын
@@tjv2924 - You're dreaming if you think you got Spida Mitchell for Sexton. You got Mitchell by shipping out Lauri, 3 unprotected firsts, as well as 2 1st-round swaps, with Sexton thrown in as ballast. In the NBA world, a return on one's trade package 5 YEARS after the fact is hardly called a return at all. You also sent a 1st rounder out the door with Isaiah Thomas, too.
@tjv29242 жыл бұрын
@@mr.brownstone5716 You guys got like half a year of Irving and he destroyed your teams chemistry. Cavs quickly dealt Jae Crowder and Thomas for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance. They then went on to lose in the Finals against one of the best teams ever with Durrant. Celtics got set back a couple years and only barely slipped into the finals 4 years later. Cavs won that trade. Even if it was just Sexton for Irving. Sexton alone for 3 years after the trade averaged 20pts+ 3+ rebs and 3+ assists a game. That alone is better than the year and half you got from a mentally broken Kyrie. Just take the L as a Celtics fan. You guys got plenty of Ws to hang your hat on.
@mr.brownstone57162 жыл бұрын
@@tjv2924 - 2 years out of Kyrie is longer than Cleveland got of Thomas, Crowder, & Zizic combined. By far the best piece of the trade back was Sexton, who's now also gone. In a world where Gobert is worth 4 first rounders and a swap, getting a single 1st rounder back for Kyrie (4 all-stars at the time & game-winning 3 in Gm 7 of finals) is the definition of getting hosed. Everyone knows this except the dopes with Cleveland-colored glasses.
@tjv29242 жыл бұрын
@@mr.brownstone5716 Dude, what? You're clearly missing so much info. Kyrie destroyed your team and left in FA and you guys got nothing from him. Not to mention he told the Cavs to trade him or he was going to have knee surgery and be out the whole year. He then would opt out and leave us with nothing. So we did what we could. Your next mistake it comparing 4 late first rounders to a high lotto pick that was Brooklyn's. There was a chance it was going to be a top 3 selection. That alone is worth more that 4 high 20 something picks. Not to mention Sexton was great for us and we were able to trade him for Spider. I mean shit Sextons 3 years as a Cav basically put up the same numbers as Kyrie. Again take the L and go cry in your 17 championship banners.
