Triple ligament replacement in right knee acl, lcl, pcl. Left arm elbow dislocation. Two herniated discs in my lumbar spine. Started 5x5 with bench, press, deadlift, squat and watching the form from starting strength videos and podcasts. Do it 3-4 times a week, eat well, sleep 7 hours and no longer have lower back pain at all, and numbers just keep increasing. Before i did so many different styles of exercise but now that i actually train i can say i squat and deadlift using low bar horizontal back positon about 200 lbs, bench 245 for sets, press 135. I do all 4 workouts monday, Wednesday, friday and sometimes sunday.... nothing else and im leaner, stronger, and overall happier. Hard to believe resting 2-3minutes inbetween sets and not while fatigued works so well but it really does work. I feel confident when i train and its always a goal to reach higher weights. If new to this just try it for a few weeks. All the other crap will fade away. So unnecessary the trends out there.

Start by getting 200g of protein every day, no matter what. You need to gain some weight, so eat at a caloric surplus. Don't make big changes in your diet that you can't sustain. Santana and Rippetoe talk at length about "LPing" your diet the same way you would weights. Make small, incremental changes that are sustainable over time. The best SS podcast to listen to would be #30, the Nutrition Linear Progression.

Hey guys quick question. Is force producing a limiting factor in power? I have a AP level understanding of physics. From my studies I recall that power= force/time. Therefore if I want to increase my power the best way to do so would be to increase my force output or decrease my time to generate that force. There is a lot of BS on the internet regarding methods developing power. I would appreciate if you could provide a video addressing this. Thank you Any feedback for experienced coaches would be appreciated.
@startingstrength
@startingstrength 4 жыл бұрын
Power is Work/Time. So (F x D)/ T = Power. Time is the limiting factor in terms of human performance. How many motor units can be recruited in the amount of time dictated by the lift or test. Rate of motor unit recruitment (aka neuromuscular efficiency) is genetically determined, and not trainable to any appreciable degree. So for humans, the most bang for your buck in terms of Power production is to manipulate the Force variable. The resulting power produced will be in proportion to neuromuscular efficiency.

@@startingstrength Thanks for your quick and detailed response. Could I infer from this that an athlete with poor force output(F x D) will not be an explosive or powerful(P) athlete, or are there exceptions to this?

@@seanwiddowson3120 kinda. Weak people are not powerful. They can get more powerful by getting stronger. People who are explosive are stronger. So natural athletes are naturally strong. People who are not explosive aren't going to be involved in sports at a high level.

Generally a SS coach will have a client go to a 5rm on their first session. They'll back off the weight 10% on their second session for 5x3 and begin their LP at that weight. At 2:34 his coach clearly says "And that's for three sets of five, right?"

Old comment, but weight and mass are the same value. They are based on the Earth's gravity. That's why there are scales that read in grams, a unit of mass; they are measuring the weight under Earth's gravity, aka mass.
