Thanks for reviewing, Tom! We are really stoked you liked our little game!

Temple Raider is played in our house about 5 times a week. It is deceptively strategic while remaining simple enough for new players to learn quickly. Add this one to your collection for sure! Super fun!

Based on themes alone, I was immediately interested in the last two games. Glad they were both approved.

Glad to see the positive review of Lil Guys! I backed it and it's become one of my favorite quick games.

Temple Raider is less than $14 on Amazon. Less than a movie ticket. Worth a try.

I got Temple Raider to play with my two boys who are 8 and 11. It was simple, fast, fun, and the components were surprisingly nice. Not the best game I've played, but a good family game and a great bargain!

It looks like Font Karuta is a variant of the traditional Japanese game "Hyakunin Isshu karuta". Why fonts? No idea. However, the anime "Chihayafuru" which covers competitive "Hyakunin Isshu karuta" was pretty good.

That Font game is definitely for a graphic design firm's office party
@curtislinden929711 ай бұрын
100% as a graphic designer I knew all of the fonts and would probably have fun playing with other designers. My weekly game group, not so much lol My group did, however, enjoy Hues and Cues until we ran out of original clues to give and they became repeats over multiple plays and it only comes out when there are new/non-gamers added on occasion

Any idea if there’s a US/English release for Pirate Tales currently or planned for the future? Thanks!

Like the format of these short reviews only thing I nearly didn’t watch as these used to be reserved for the rubbish games 😂. Might be good to make that clear maybe that “good games could be in this bundle!”

Temple Raider has some Can't Stop gamer version to it.

Personally, really enjoyed Scram, I'd never turn cards at random, but I can find out information about the Facedown cards as the game goes and I can end up trading my facedown ones for Face up, anyway seemed a weird hang up. Nice to have a 2 vs 2 game there aren't many. Also the apps really fun

These aren't all short-ish games! You should call it something like "flash game reviews" Just kidding. Love the channel.

Hey Tom, did you ever explain your number rating values? 5 on bgg is “mediocre, take it or leave it” but your 5 seems to be “never play again.”
@jblank155211 ай бұрын
I think ratings 1-3 are for games that fundamentally do not work (either mechanically or in a social gaming context, i.e. utterly distasteful) if I remember correctly (he mentioned something like that once). I guess mediocre games range from 4-6. Given the amount of games nowadays released (and played at the DT) I guess most mediocre games will be "never play again".

I find their numbering system to be like CGP Greg’s flag tier list. 5-10 is your normal 1-10 stuff, and 1-5 are subdivisions of the low score. Based on what they say about games and how rarely they use the low numbers and what description goes with the number they gave. “4/10 would not recommend to anyone” makes me think that it’s F-tier, but actually F-B-Tier.
@johnf28511 ай бұрын
Maybe an idea for a top ten vid: Various hosts explain what the numbers mean to them and give an example of a game at each rating and why they rated it that number.

To be fair….Tom plays hundreds of new games a year (remember that’s just new). I think it’s fair to say when you play that many, anything below 6 would not be revisited. I think that would go for anyone who plays that many games.
@Islacrusez11 ай бұрын
@@bayareamasto bearing in mind that 4 is “would not recommend this to anyone” and “it’s a wonder they thought anyone would buy it”, I don’t think tom’s “never play again” is just because it’s mediocre.

Hey Tom, there was just a small mistake in your Pirate Tales explanation. You always need 1 dice(with success) to fulfill an adventure card, you can't just pay with cards from your hand. I think this is also why the dice maximum is 7 (7 cardspaces from start to end on the map). Greetings from Germany 😇

That font game is really strange... What on earth told anyone that this was a good idea??? Especially when people usually use about 2-3 fonts for pretty much anything... And after playing this a few times, it doesn't get any better as you learn what the fonts look like. Just an odd game without any game in it... I was actually quite surprised to see Tom very reluctantly go under 5 on any of these...

Font Karuto seems like it's a re-theme away from being an interesting sort of reverse dixit party game. Imagine if a person were reading a description of the personality of an alien criminal, and the players each select a "suspect" based on what the description is. Still not as interesting as the games where the players come up with the descriptions themselves, but at least with a different theme the game might seem worth a play or two.
@kookaburrito677111 ай бұрын
Font Karuto should have just called themselves "Font Flash Cards". I think they'd probably get more interest from their target audience then.

If a 4 is an unplayable game that can't be recommended to anyone what is a 1,2 or 3?
@Dragon739811 ай бұрын
A 4 is a game that isn't good, that he wouldn't recommend, but isn't aggressively bad. To get a 1, it has to be offensive and/or actively broken in a significant way. An example for this that he'd recently done a Look Back on was "Dark Legacy: The Rising", where a 20-sided die roll each round determines your mana; all the strategy in the world cannot save you if you roll 2s and your opponent rolls 18s. It's the difference between celery (4) and poison ivy (1). I wouldn't recommend celery, but I understand why people might eat it now and then. I would be concerned if you actively enjoyed eating poison ivy. :D

How does a game you "cannot recommend to anyone" almost get a 5/10? This seems to imply that your scale pretty much runs 4-10 rather than 1-10.
