12:07 TDR Nova is a free dynamic eq that can also do this. Or, if you have Bitwig Studio, you can use the Audio Sidechain modulator on any control to make it dynamic.
@Lucius3388 ай бұрын
YESSS cannot recommend Nova enough. Their SlickEQ plugin is also very good for tone shaping and a bit of saturation, and their Limiter is really nice as well. All free 😎

Very cool stuff! I've been learning how to ""mix"" since Covid trapped us inside, and although I'm still a dumbass and don't really know what I'm doing, these sorts of videos are so helpful.
@augmented2nd6666 ай бұрын
This is why I dont make music anymore, theres no way I could remember even a fraction of this crap, let alone all the other crap not in this video that people do in a DAW to make music, like quantizing and chopping stuff up and changing pitches and whatnot. Music is just insane now, everyone has to also be a sound engineer and a producer and a scientist and a doctor to figure this crap out.
@ekojar30475 ай бұрын
This is more post tricks, you'll be fine, just pick sounds you like, hit record, and see what happens. There are no rules with music. This is more like advanced tricks to get ultimate guitar tones that low. I do love the tone here. I would say the most important thing to take away when it comes to mixing, is the Ducking of the Guitars to make sure the kick and snare cut through. The kick probably more important if you're playing low notes. Just remember, every instrument has its place. Make sure there is room for it! I like to play slap bass, a Korn clicky tone, but the only way I could really mix it good was to copy the bass track, 1 part I focused on the clicks, the other part I focused on actually bringing out the sub bass notes. It just sounds like keys jingling around without the actual Bass parts. But you don't even have to do that. Just play around with tones, and make some music! No wrong answer! Never be afraid to make a song!

You could emulate the dynamic mode of Pro Q with a multiband compressor like the stock one from Ableton Live. You mute the low and high bands and aim your mid band where the "palm mutes" frequencies are and Voilà. I use that trick quite often for other purposes like "deHISSing" dialogues.

Yo!! Just came across this video (fantastic by the way) and am dying to know how you stay in tune while picking hard. I tend to pick hard in almost every other context, but with an eight string my low strings go sharp even when I dial back my picking. Tuning flat helps the attack, but the note drifts south as soon as it rings out. Any tips?

drewsif ive followed your mixing videos and music (musical endeavors even) since before ctae and to see how youve been getting that sound out of your guitars recently feels like knowledge i shouldnt have. the trick with the fuzz is the exact aspect of the tone i could never emulate. after the A/B comparisons you said it was subtle but i wouldnt downplay that trick it is extremely powerful and changes everything. i used to always double track and only in the last couple years have been finding myself quad tracking more and more. props for being honest about the methods you use. a lot of people gatekeep that stuff. love your content hope youre doing well mayne✌

I might have been living under a rock, but what is it with some words not being vocalized on youtube lately? I’m also seeing workaround words for some of them.
@ItsDrewsif8 ай бұрын
This is a bit of an oversimplification, but essentially if youtube hears certain words theres a high likelihood of you being demonitized/age restricted on your video, and when that happens on top of obviously not being able to make any money, you are essentially booted out of the algorithm and your videos don’t get shown to anyone.

If you for some reason want to explore alternative ways to get gud 8 string tone I suggest the following: Behringer SF300 Fuzz into a Behringer Heavy Metal through a crunchy kinda amp/preset. I've been wondering why exactly everyone has forsaken the axefx when it comes to recording in general. is it just the flexibility of blending DIs and plugins with other plugins etc? I still use mine cuz it was so damn expensive but these plugins are very nice too.

These are great tips - the tone journey is one that is constantly evolving. Think of how far we've come! My favorite low tuned guitar tip is that for recording, you almost always should have less gain on your amp then you would in a live setting. You get so much more clarity in a recording that way.

Yes! Finally someone who splits up bass and guitar into separate tracks for specific frequency ranges. I also love how Drewsif will make a dB move that's over/under 3 dB. I don't know how many times I've heard people say *never* make frequency moves more than a few dB. Why? If it sounds better with a bigger move, why the fubeeep not?
