Yep, I'm one of those who played all the way through We Happy Few, including the DLC. And you know what? I honestly don't regret it. The story and worldbuilding were so good, and their use of first person storytelling was so frequently creative, that I didn't mind the plodding gameplay. If you're interested in trying it, I strongly recommend playing on Easy mode so you can simply ignore the survival elements, which should speed up the gameplay considerably. (And honestly, the survival stuff is only a challenge for the first few hours, which is one of the problems. Once you have a handle on how the game works and build up some stocks of supplies, you'll probably never again worry about going hungry.)

Death Stranding had some really big trope defying twists in it. "Oh, this organization that's trying to present itself as good, despite you finding out about a bunch of sketchy-looking stuff they're doing behind the scenes? Yeah, well, they are actually good guys, and it was just a misunderstanding." "This quest series that feels like the game is intentionally wasting your time? You find out at the end that it was a major character actually going out of their way to waste Sam's time so that he's not focusing on the game's plot." Kojima really knows how to throw people for a loop. Everyone expects the "The self-described good guys are the real villain" twist, so he plays them as looking suspect, but actually being good. Everyone expects that a time-sink quest chain is going to have a huge reward at the end, so he makes that "reward" the revelation that it was designed as an in-universe waste of time.

Also, I loved The Order 1886, I thought the new and unique guns kept the gameplay interesting, the biggest sin of that game is that they banked on it being a huge new franchise so hard that the game is ended right when the story is starting to really get going, also it's too short. I've forever been hoping for the sequel it deserves tbh🤷🏻‍♂️

We Happy Few is worth playing due to the cool story and awesome atmosphere, despite it's gameplay being not good. It's STRONGLY recommended that anyone who wants to play the game and finds the disc update the game before playing. If you don't download the patches / updates and just put the disc in, the game is an unplayable glitch fest. With the updates / patches it's passable. Overall, I enjoyed the game, despite it's flaws.

fucking lost it at the olive oil gag xD Great editing also how can you NOT include the absolute gem that is the story of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days? the gameplay of that was such a joyless grind but the story more than made up for it

I don't think I remember having much issue with the gameplay of KH 358/2 Days since it was only a DS game. I'm not too sure how hardcore they could've made it, but sooner or later I'll have to try it again since it's been over a decade. Definitely did get very samey, and so I ended up forgetting to finish it. Wish they would've just remade THOSE games at this point 🤦🏻‍♂️ I did love the idea of playing as the Org. XIII in arena fights. Would love that fleshed out 🔥

I hate to admit it, but I voiced some of the characters in Ride to Hell Retribution. You're right though about the story, it WAS supposed to be really good. I was told it was going to be Sons of Anarchy crossed with GTA. That's how the sold it to us, and even how we recorded it. 2 years after I recorded everything, the game finally released and I was stunned with how bad it was. Not only was the game play horrendous, entire scenes that I recorded were cut and cobbled together with other scenes haphazardly making no sense. On top of that, they used rehearsal takes for many of my lines rather than the better ones we recorded. I couldn't believe it. From what I understand, they were massively behind schedule on production but had to have the game out at a certain time, so they just slapped things together in a rush. I never actually finished the game because it was just so bad. I have kept the game though just to remind me of my humble beginnings in the industry. LOL. I apologize that you had to suffer through that mess too!

I was awoken today far earlier than expected; after only an hour of sleep. My brother told me my mom was on her way to our house and that I needed to call in to work. I hopped out of bed, got dressed and waited for her to arrive. My dad's been in the hospital since Father's Day, and given he's been on the decline health wise we've all been worried about him. There was hope though since it seemed like the doctors were starting to zero in on what the problem was. My mom got to my house and knocked on the door and when I opened it, she was standing there, crying, said "I'm so sorry baby" and nearly collapsed on me giving me a hug as we both just cried together in the doorway. To say that today has been rough is an understatement. I went back to bed after crying and talking with her and my brother for a few hours, reminiscing over all the wonderful things my dad did for us. I ended up waking up not too long ago and just laid in bed staring at a picture of my dad and listening to a voicemail he'd sent me; the last one he'd sent before his health started to take a turn for the worse. I'll never be able to talk to him again, never be able to make him laugh, never hear him tell me he's proud of me, never get to show him anything I ever accomplish ever again, never get to hear him give his wonderful and kind wisdom about what I should do, which right now i need more than ever. He was my best friend and I'll never get him back. With that said, we all need things to help us cope, to help us feel better, and for me relaxing on KZbin has always helped me unwind from the troubles of the world. When I watched this today, Jules' outro hit me differently than it ever has, because for the first time in my life, I truly needed it. My dad wouldn't want my story to be full of sadness and grief, so even though I'm typing this up through tears, I'm going to do my best to push forward like he'd want; to make the rest of my story one worth remembering. Jules, I know you'll likely never read this, but in case you ever do, please never ever stop with these wonderful messages at the end of your segments; no matter what your bosses say, no matter what the comments say. These messages aren't sappy, they're not stupid, they're wonderful. Even if just one person gets the same benefit from it that I did today, that's proof you're making this harsh and unfair world a better place. You are a golden egg of perfection Jules, never a duck and never deserving of wet bread. Smash it like you always tell us to do, because you are wonderful, funny, and most of all, kind. Dad would have liked you. June 22, 2021, 11:14 AM, RIP Dad, I'll never forget you, and I'll love you til the day I die.

To The Moon has been my absolute favorite video game since the very first time I played it. The story, characters, world building, aesthetics, and audio are all phenomenal. And yet, as a game, it's...well I wouldn't call it terrible, but it is incredibly simple, amounting to little more than a 2D top down walking simulator with the occasional trivial puzzle thrown in. I love it and recommend it to everyone, but it's difficult to have any praise for the game part of the game.

DS was fun at times, but there were definitely points where I rolled my eyes and had to slog through. Mostly how formulaic it became. "Oh, a story mission where we're sent to a new place? Can't wait to fight BT's 4/5ths of the way there." OMG, I hated Brink. I noticed very early on that if you were on one side during particular mission types, you were going to win regardless. I believe it was the escort mission. A mix of quick healing of the AI escort and a very giving match time meant that if you were the attackers, you might as well sit back and watch.

Two games that I just finished fit the bill. Alice: Madness Returns. A continuation of American McGee's twisted horror take on Lewis Carroll's work. However, there are timed events and precise platforming requiring you to move Alice around and make very precise jumps. Poor Alice moves and jumps like Marcus Fenix on ketamine. And the camera veers off at the worst possible times guaranteeing you will miss all important jumps. The other is Call of Cthulhu. The works of Lovecraft (Call of Cthulhu, The Shadow Over Innsmouth) in a detective story of an ancient cult set in a fishing village with a dark past. However, stealth missions (like in the hospital) are frustrating with unresponsive controls and puzzles that in many cases are less intuitive than early Resident Evil puzzles. I still can't figure out how I was supposed to solve a few of them without using the internet. Even Alice had chess puzzles that don't work if you know chess and how pieces move (Carroll would roll over in his grave at that as Through the Looking Glass made how pieces move part of the plot) as knights, instead of moving up and then over, kill your piece from left to right. Both amazing stories. McGee created a dark Wonderland that is far better than Tim Burton's and Call of Cthulhu the game is a better adaptation of Lovecraft than any movie version (except maybe Dagon except fot its CGI problems).
