Greetings from Canada, just want to say thank you for your 7 year old video, it really connected with me, realized I was the one picking up the glass, nobody else... after watching your video in 2017, April 1st arrived, which is an anniversary date of my father who died many years before from complications due to his lifetime alcoholism, ironically April Fools Day. So as many of us are impacted by our fathers, judged, resulting in insecurities, etc., I still fought with my father even though he passed away, in my head.... and having a stubborn memory of him telling me I'm just like him. So in 2017 on April 1st, recalling your video, I quit, stopped drinking. April 1st has 2024 passed, and it's been over 7 years now. I have other habits now, tinkering in my workshop, making parts or working out, steady day job, etc.., there are other methods of getting "distractions" and getting positive results, whether it's called dopamine, the brain is something I had to control, but it is a fight, and will always be, yet all I have to do now is look back and think, was the result of drinking good for me, and the answer is clearly no. Sorry for the long reply, and thank you again. Mike

I've been a very very heavy drinker since I was 20, I'm 34 now and I can't remember a single day when I didn't get drunk. I work full time and within half hour of finishing my shift I'm drinking. I've lost three relationships that were important to me because of alcohol but yet I still drank. Yesterday was my first sober day in 14 years. I feel extremely unwell but I am not touching another drop. Wish me luck 🤞.

@@daughterofzion2146 I was watching this video today because a friend of mine is trying to stop, too. I am currently at 107 days sober. My former best was 70, but that was 10 years ago. I wasn't as heavy as Matt768, but I averaged a good 3-4 days a week and usually drank until I passed out. My friend is like Matt768. I asked him how long he can hold off drinking after work. 30 minutes? He said no chance. I'm not cured by any means, but I know if I can help my friend stay sober for even 1 day, it'll shine a light on him that it IS possible and also necessary. Please keep trying, Tribe of Judah. Lots of people struggle with you and we are trying to kick this nasty habit. I hope you find a way to get sober and stay sober. I'm going to keep trying to help my friend. Maybe you know someone also trying to quit or already has. Don't give up!

Trace Miller Not only am I with you, I'm praying for recovery for every alcoholic out there who wants to recover, but is lost as to where to start as I was. thanks for putting it into perspective. I gravitate & am sensitive to all things alcohol; labeling, pretty bottles, cool drinking glasses & I guess the feeling of always having it; the habit. Realize, Reject, & Correct. Certainly easier than it sounds but worth an attempt. I want this gone from my life. It's been 23 years in the making, either IT will be gone, or I will be gone from this world. I no longer want to let Alcohol control my life. I want to cut this tether,

I just want to say thank you!!! I am still not 100% AF but since jan 2, 2023 I have only drank 3 times. For the last 10 years I have been a daily- get- drunk drinker. And before that I was a binge drinker since 11. I watch your videos almost everyday. You are so real. And, so unapologetically to the point, I absolutely love it. I hear your voice when I think about drinking. "Theres no fucking point, what the fuck are you doing? " and I need to hear it. I used to hear myself but now, I hear you and I'm more apt to listen. So- just a huge thank you. I am breaking the cycle of addiction to alcohol in my family. And you are helping tremendously. ❤ much love to you and your family. ThankyouThankyouThankyou!!!!

I quit 6 years ago and everything said in these videos are spot on. The only thing I can add is based on my personal experience. When you make the decision to quit drinking you will lose a lot of people you thought of as friends. The few you have left and support the choice you have made will not only stick by you but may also become motivated to stop drinking just by watching how much better your life has become. Early on it will be lonely but it’s worth it in the end.

Listen to this man, he knows. If necessary, get into a safe medical detox at a treatment center -- don't risk seizure. Put up with the inconvenience and harshness of that experience without blaming staff. Go to every group and every meeting. Be aware of post-acute withdrawals, and know that not taking a drink is your biggest ally. Know that the cravings diminish over time. Hydrate, eat, sleep, and pray. Know that this prayer precedes you: God, strengthen the alcoholic reading this. Bless his and her recovery journey. Lead him and her into spiritual growth that he and she might in turn help the next addict. Amen. We gain new life one sober day at a time. The only things to change are everything.

It was beer. Non drinking came in to popularity nowerdays. I do many things. Inline skating windsurfing boomerangs. Music production.. But productivity went down significantly.. So I am levitating above the ground today.. Detox is in effect... Great feeling ;) good luck guys. We gonna release a lot of good music soon.

Going off of my last post, I just wanted to add that I've always looked at drinking as "trying to fix how I feel". Mental illness issues are the biggest cause of drinking imo. I think alcoholics are also professional thinkers and we think too much.

I was an almost daily drinker for years. Had my share of blackouts and stupid words or decisions, but generally have maintained a very decent functioning alcoholic status. I've quit for a few months here and there but always ended up back at it through making excuses and compromises, and also, the "quitting" was never truly about myself.....it was usually about guilt and shame or saving face or in an effort to save a relationship, but not about me and my will to quit drinking. It took the ending of said relationship and my stewing alone in my own madness where the decision to quit drinking finally became about me. The depression and anxiety and shit sleep and tarnished productivity and lies and isolation became too fucking much. I'm 44, in good shape, talented as fuck and I deserve a much better go at life. So I put it down. I'm on day 4 and and I know there'll be rough stuff, but the alternative is a Goddamn blues jam, man! Alcohol can kick rocks! Sober is a life worth living.

this is one of my favorite videos of yours so far!! I spent years in AA and it didn't "get me sober". agree completely that it is a choice. I wish i had the incentive of a family to be sober for . It's been hard for me to find a purpose , a passion, or reason. THANK YOU for your videos!!! You do inspire me. I have three days sober again and changing my diet to raw vegan seems to help a lot. Onwards and upwards! :)

Hi Lisa, I think when you have a dependency on alcohol, whether physical or psychological, a family wouldn't necessarily stop you drinking. Ultimately, you have to want it and do it for yourself. Well done on your 3 days sober! :-)

Lisa - I can relate because yes, like you, it’s been hard for me to find purposes and passions. I too sat in rooms of AA meetings only to feel ultimately defeated. Even connecting with other people didn’t do it for me. If you ever need anyone to talk to or sound off to, I’m always here. You seem like a pretty awesome girl. Keep fighting Mark G. - AA is a wonderful program, but it certainly doesn’t work for everyone. It didn’t for me either. I’m glad it’s worked for you, but be open minded to the fact that there are other ways aside from AA to get sober. Also, maybe you shouldn’t be a pretentious asshole who assumes that she didn’t want sobriety. Am I missing something here? Did you know her?
@Kokoro252
@Kokoro252 6 жыл бұрын
Mark G. What was pretentious was the tone in your reply to her. Addiction is fatal. I don’t disagree with you. But, once you’ve gone through the ugly withdrawal effects and get yourself invasive help in rehab (as I’ve done), you also learn that it is a choice in deciding to pick up another drink. When you have a craving, you don’t roll over and say, “hey, I have a disease, I need to have a drink.” One of the most frustrating things (actually, now equally comical) is when I was about to relapse walking into a liquor store. Instead of buying anything after being in there for more than five minutes, I finally told myself, “this is insanity” and walked out. I had called my sponsor at the time, who told me it was nothing more than an act from my higher power because I have a disease. Sobriety is a good way to live - I’m all for people achieving it however they can as well - but there’s no need to put others down because they didn’t do it your way.

Mark G. You sound like the type of people who scaremongering has become an art form in AA. It keeps people away. If you properly read the big book they said attraction not promotion. basically don't be a fundamental crack pot ramming your opinions down people's throats. People get easily brainwashed in AA that's the problem. But I've met some great stable souls in the rooms.

12 years and 3 months sober. God I don't miss those days of waking up completely hungover. I would lock myself in my room, everyday and drink the moment the sun came up to when the sun went down. Alone...with the bottle. Pissing it all away. and starting over. I am now the best version of me. I may not have a lot of money but what I do have is my life, my sanity, and a much healthier mind and body. I won't ever go down that road again. Ever. It took getting in to a single vehicle DUI accident (leaving a bar at that) to get me to wake up. I am so glad that I am not that person anymore. I pray for all the ones that are still going through it. Alcohol was my go to escape...My hiding place. Or so I thought. Never again.

I totally agree with your perspective that it is habit, not a weakness or a disease. I know AA has helped a lot of people, but I never liked the business of putting a label on yourself that is never going to go away "I'm an alcoholic." In some ways, it makes alcohol even more central to people's lives after quitting. It is put at the very centre of their identity as people, forever. Bottom line: whatever works, works and AA has worked for a lot of people. It is not though the only way to quit drinking.

The first 2 or 3 days is the hardest. I've been sober for 10 months and I shit you not, what helped the most was mixing a shot of apple cider vinegar with a fizzy probiotic drink (kombucha). I know its super healthy but it filled that pit in my stomach I loved about drinking which was that comfortable warmth in my stomach. This drink mixture gave that to me. I still drink it every day.

I’m 17 and have been an alcoholic for about 8 months now, I had some really tough personal experiences at the start of the year and the stress of leaving school and joining the real world scared me, every day of this year I have had at the very least 8 standard drinks per night, sometimes I would make myself vomit i was so drunk, I have also been battling very bad social anxiety, depression and ptsd and alcohol made all these things go away, I am too socially anxious to tell my parents about my mental health issues and go get medication for this so I use alcohol as my medication, i find it extremely hard just to walk into school each morning so serious confrontations are almost impossible, I honestly don’t know what to do with my life I’m in a shit position
