Polishing your shoes is so important. My father taught me to polish my shoes and I actually do it weekly and I have my father’s shoe shine box. I’m the king of Kiwi Paste Polish. I am a college professor and my students often comment about my shoes. Even my colleagues and close friends who neglect their shoes will probably hear from me. Also, trim the nails and clean the hair out of your ears and nose! Great video! Thanks!

Thrift stores? YES! I visited one out of curiosity last year & found a LS Polo shirt in mint condition for $7 (retailed at $75)! I'm pretty picky ... so it had to be in perfect condition. Did the same thing a couple of weeks ago ... two shirts that present as if never worn for $12! Kind of fun actually.

I loved your video. I have a son, grandson, and great grandson. I have always had to dress on a budget. Here are some tips to get the most out of every garment and pair of shoes. Good fitting jeans are hard to find. When that favorite pair begins to show some age, you can renew the color by using Rit Fabric Dye. It is available in stores like Walmart. It comes in Black, Navy, Denim and any other colors. I dye my black jeans and Denim about every six months. Any shirt can also be dyed.. Just follow the instructions carefully on the package. Another product I use is Feibings Leather Dye. It comes in Black, Grey, Brown, Cordova, etc. It is on Amazon. I have some leather boots and shoes that are at least 25 years old. I periodically clean them with alcohol and dye them. Then just use paste wax and buff them out. They look brand new! I have even dyed shoes Black that I did not like the original color. These are some great money saving tips to keep your garments and footwear looking great. I do have a comment. I hate to see men wearing flip-flops or shoes without socks such as loafers or dress shoes. Both of these can really undo an otherwise sharp look. Sneakers are OK without socks. I appreciate your videos. My father was a meticulous dresser.

This is all good advice but I would add to this, shop the sales! I almost never pay full price for anything. It does require spending a little more time looking for your clothes, but if you view your appearance as an investment in your future (I'm in sales, so I do) then you should view your time spent shopping as an investment in your appearance. One thing related to the time you spend is "learn which stores carry what you're looking for." That can save you a lot of time right there.

Today I just purchased a Tissot Chronograph Automatic T-Racer for $300.00 watch which is my first Swiss Watch. Lastly and I agree, shoes are a great staple to every man's wardrobe. I really enjoy your vlogs! I have a theory on men's fashion, as a 54 year old man. Dress in a similar fashion of James Bond and Steve McQueen, and you cannot go wrong! I also try to wear one really nice piece of clothes with any given outfit, and I think that people just assume everything you are wearing is top shelf! I have a Barbour jacket, a John Smedley sweater, a pair of Rockport suede chukka boots, a Sunspel navy blue polo, to name a few items; all were purchased second hand, so I have very little cost into them as well. Of course fit is king when it comes to anything I wear!

Best Bond HAS to be Connery. He was so good that Ian Fleming wrote a half-Scottish, half-Swiss ancestry into Bond's character into the last few books. As much as I like Daniel Craig (he'd be my no.2 vote), Connery is taller, has more screen presence, and is a genuine hard man. He was in a movie with Lana Turner in the late 50s (ie before he was a star), and her boyfriend Johnny Stompanato-a feared enforcer for mobster Mickey Cohen-got jealous on set, and threatened Connery with a gun. Connery took the gun off him and proceed to kick the shit out of him in front of everyone on set. If that alone doesn't make him the best Bond, I don't know what does! :-)

Hands-down Daniel Craig! You hit another homerun with this video John. I will say that at least 85 to 90% of your recommendations I already followed and it makes a whole world of difference. For people who may ask why we want to look expensive… There’s so many reasons and you have to find yours. @@40OverFashion People like TGV and Ben Arthur have done some great videos on these fashion watch brands, dissecting the actual quality of their watches and their business models, which are based on branding cheap generic Chinese-manufactured product, applying a huge mark up and shifting loads of units to millennials via aggressive internet marketing. You can simply get much better watches, more cheaply, from more traditional watch manufacturers at the value end of the market.
@40OverFashion
@40OverFashion 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jon, point taken and I've seen some of those videos. But what do you say to the people that just like MVMT and the way their designs look?
@Jon867
@Jon867 5 жыл бұрын
@@40OverFashion IIRC Ben has shown that you can get essentially the same designs much more cheaply elsewhere (e.g. AliExpress) so even if you simply like the look of these watches, I really can't see any rational reason to buy a MVMT or other fashion watch brand - it's not as if they have brand prestige to justify their markup. I respect the marketing savvy of these companies, but they offer poor value for the consumer.
@nmoddentity8401

So true. Every time I see a MVMT sponsored video I cringe. I suppose if buying one gets someone to explore watches more and move on to better ones then ok. But it's a shame people would spend money on a MVMT watch only to discover there were so many better options out there.

Hey John, As soon as you mentioned MVMT I knew the comment section would be filled with Seiko and Timex etc recommendations and voila. IMHO, as with any material item, get what makes you happy. Of course a little research into what you're buying obviously would help, but if you understand that you are paying for the logo and possibly the design, then go for it. Rolex's watches can be matched in terms of functionality and history by many brands but there's a reason people prefer the Submariner over say an Aquis or a Sea Master. No one is immune to marketing and name values! But one things is certain; do not get bitten by the watch bug, lest you end up craving for just one more watch. Anyway my favourite Bond is Brosnan not only because I grew up with him, but he just fits the role so perfectly. I do like them all though! Best, Han

I really appreciate to look expensive! Kkkkkk I love dark colours and I certainly look more ellegant wearing them! When it comes to watches I prefer the swiss ones, but I also have inexpensive ones that match really well with my looks and I like them the same way as I like the famous designer ones. One of the things I learned with my mom is tô always keep my shoes clean. Thanks for the vídeo, John!

As usual great video John. Good content. I see you took the mvmt $- ain't mad a ya. However, From Timex, Seiko to Citizen, one can find better watches for less than an overpriced mvmt.

Thanks John for mentioning thrift stores as I have done as you suggested and have taken pieces I have gotten there in to have them altered with awesome results. It gives clothes a new lease on life and helps the environment. I have often contemplated getting a used sewing machine and learn how to do my own alterations but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I have done some hand sewing and taken in the sleeves of some polo shirts that were too big. As for shoes a personal favorite of mine is "Saphir" polish. I highly recommend it to anyone. BTW that was some of the nastiest nose and ear hair ever. Great examples to drive that point home. Excellent content as always. :)

So many great ideas in one video, John! I picked up a pair of jeans at Gap on sale last summer for $12! The white toe caps of Converse shoes can be brightened with hand sanitizer.

You make great videos and I agree that is isn’t the price that gives value. I have a great Timex watch that fits into my wardrobe just as well as my TAG Monaco. But just because a watch costs $95 doesn’t make it a great value regardless of how good it may look. Timex watches have been proven to last a lifetime. I’m not so convinced that these new fashion watches will fair quite so well. Sean Connery for class but Roger Moore for the great tongue in cheek 🙂

I truly enjoy your videos. I will be 60 years old in 4 months. Can I continue to incorporate all your ideas thru my 60s? I’m slim. About 5’10” 150 lbs. I like your look and want to continue that look if you think it’s doable. American Eagle jeans and all. Thanks.

Pay attention to color. It can make you look fatter or skinny. Depending on lighting. Either outdoors or inside. It really does matter. I even dated a girl in high school. She changed jeans 3 times in one day. She was that obsessed with fit. So if she was that obsessed with fit. Imagine how she looked you over, for how your clothes fit. A lesson I remember to this day. As women notice that from 100 feet away...My older sisters confirmed my observation..
