Wrapping up my 8 weeks winter camping while attending school. The rain proofing got its first real-world test, and I brought out a dump trailer to bring back my newly acquired insulated tarp.

If someone would have told me 7 weeks ago I would be watching videos about you camping and going to school I would have said they're crazy. But I really have enjoyed your videos. It is like sitting around a camp fire/stove and talking about life. Thank you for allowing us in on your journey. Good luck with your tests.

I'm honestly going to miss this series. I know there will always be some form of camping with Steve, but there was just something romantic about this situation with you needing to be there (not just for fun) and being frugal and all.

I do have a military diesel heater I will fire up also. I have a few steel shipping containers and one is setup as a 3 season cabin. I have a fire pit and acoustic instruments also and will be hosting some bonfire jams. Who wants to go????

Hey Steve, I'm Steve, nice to meet you. Love your channel. We (my wife and I) do a lot of camping. We're in a medieval reenactment group (SCA, Society of Creative Anachronisms.) Our camping is not light camping or backpacking, but more like camping with a you-haul. Still lots of fun. Now here in Alabama we don't get a lot of snow - or more like hardly any - but, what we do get is a ton of rain. I've had tents that have never been put back up dry in the whole time we used them. Always had to re-set them back out and allow them to dry out before I could pack back up for storage. Now another SCA camping friend of ours gave us a few hints when we first started out. One: Thompson Water Seal. Yep, the stuff you spray on a wood deck. Set up the tent, soak the outside and let it dry for a day. Repeat. Repeat. Now after the third treatment let the tent stay set up at least a week before you put it away. Preferable in warm temperatures. The way to judge is if the tent still feel sticky, don't roll it up. (It may discolor the nylon a bit, think yellowing. Least ways it did mine, but who cares. It shed water like a duck's back.) Oh, and don't forget to do the underside of the tent as well. Next: Candle wax. Take a plain white candle, soften it a bit and rub it on the inside seams. Also where the tie-down straps attach to the bottom. Every seam. A good heavy coating. Again in warm weather, preferable. Do these two things and you could set up a tent in a car wash and not get any water inside the tent. We had a spring storm line come through and drop 4-inches of rain in two hours on the campsite we were at. We were floating on the ground cloth, think the floor feeling like a water bed. We had a cup of water, if that much, come in by one of the tie-down straps. Then it drizzled rain for two more days. Dry as a bone inside. Hope these help.

I'm here at the site where Federal Bureau of Igloos investigators had the scene cordoned off earlier, trying to determine the cause of the collapse. A press conference is scheduled at 5, when the structure's owner, a Steve Wallis, will make a statement. Earlier witness accounts said building had, allegedly, commenced while workers were inebriated. More later. Back to you, John.
