80 series landcruiser alternator and thermo fan replacnment

(Please note I am not a qualified mechanic I just understand 80 series Landcruisers my videos are just what I do and how to do it if you follow them you do so at your own risk)

Going to have to do this tomorrow, my belts were getting super squeeky, discovered the bolt in the bottom is just missing and the adjustment bracket had actually snapped, so the whole alternator had moved, other than the noise it still runs sweet but is getting super annoying, thanks for the video will help to make it easier for sure

@@blackllama1 Everything went well.If I had to do it again I could do it in half the time. The only difference is the placement of the alternator on American models is on the left side of the vehicle. Other than that the procedure was essentially the same

on my 1HZ I removed the second battery (drivers side), all the bolts on the shroud and slid it carefully between the shroud and the radiator on the drivers side, did this a couple of times before my last trip as I was chasing a heating issue before a big trip.

Hey mate great video today! This helped me so much today changing my alternator in my hzj79 land cruiser! Do you know what torque setting the water pump bolts are? As well as the fan bolts and those 4 bolts on the AC compressor that you moved to make it easier? Cheers

Thanks for video, I need to change fan/alternator belts, is the tensioner screw enough alone to put tension on or do I need to pry the alternator out a bit with a crow bar like in other videos?

I’m glad you found the video use-full. It will depend on how much muck has gotten in. Mostly I just use a large flat screwdriver to move it. However it is possible you might need a little more. All the best with it. Tension screw is enough to pull it tight again.

Hey black llama, loving your vids, just doing an alternator change on my 80 in NZ in 30 degree heat. Just wondering how to drain the coolant from the radiator on these, is there a plug or do I need to take off the bottom hose?

Sorry for slow reply I have been at a wedding on a farm with no phone or internet. There should be a drain bung but. Taking the pipe off also works

My 80 does not have the correct bolt in it. I purchased it like that. Someone has put another bolt through at some point.

What’s the part number for cross reference. I’ve got a 1HDT hoping to locally sourced an alternator locally in the US.

I don’t usually give part numbers as sometimes the can vary on different model options. It’s best to check your vin and chasy number located in the engine bay then you will end up with the right part for your car

Why didn't you show us how to get the alternator belts on? If they are new, and unstretched, itr's a nigh on impossible task

Sorry I have never had any issues changing the belts. Just loosen the alternator right off and roll the belts ok same as on any car

hamzaballer23 it shouldn’t be that different. You just need the part to fit your model. A few bolts on the alternator will be slightly different places ect but swapping is quite similar
