That came apart easy it looks good inside. Thanks for the shout out :). I spent the last 2 hours looking for something to give it an exact date but it seems like the serial number is the only real way to get it. The carb seems to be the only real giveaway as to the general date. Having the deep tank on the base could also point to it but I don't know when they stopped using the deep one or if it was just an option depending on what model of washer you bought. They made so many little changes and the records don't seem to have been kept well so this is proving to be difficult. If I can think of something else to help date it I will let you know. Maybe someone who knows Maytag better can help date it. Looks like it is coming along good you will have that up and running in no time. :)

Anouther tip on dating your engine is the early engines 1927 - 1928 had raised letters where it says open-close on top of the fuel tank under the mixer lever. The side exhaust engines had that feature. Great work on all your videos. Thankyou.

Hi! ... Another great project! ... I have been enjoying your videos for a long time. You guys do some cool projects! Thank you for sharing them with us! ..... I don't normally bother you guys, but I might have some information that might be helpful to you. .... You may already know about Bob's Small Engine Repair. ..... About 10 years ago my son in law gave me an old Maytag washing machine that his Grandmother used on there farm to wash clothes with. Those gasoline powered washing machines, along with Battery Farm Radios, and gas lighting pits, were often used on the rural farm's before electricity was available. .. Anyhow... before I type a really loooong note. LOL! ..... I restored the same Maytag motor that you are working on. Bob was very helpful supplying me with every part I needed at a very fair price. .. Over the years I have seen him at the Old Time Gas, an Steam Engine shows, so think he is still in business. .. Bob's Small Engine Repair is located in Marion Iowa. www.bblin@bser.com. Bob was very friendly to me, and I highly recommend his business. ... Keep up the great projects and fantastic videos guys! Thank's again! .. Your friends, Mike,Bear, an my family!

I believe in early 1929 the exhaust pipe pointed out the side of the engine and in late 1929 like yours and mine the exhaust pointed out the front. I remember before when you and Mike were working on one of these, the two of you talked about the high crown bolts holding the cylinder on. The flywheel is probably a factory replacement, thus no serial number.

Just a thought, can your camera connect to a tv while recording? If so and you have a spare tv you can use it as a display to show yourself what the camera is seeing. Should be better than looking at a small display on the camera and easier to see from a distance.

Would there be any practical application for such an engine? I'm wondering if one can put such old iron back to work even if it's only some sort of limited usage. Perhaps as part of a generator set for outback camp lighting?
@allenmckinney95337 жыл бұрын
NekitaNet it might have enough power to turn a alternator for 12v power.

NekitaNet mainly for washing machines but really whatever you can hook it up to. I would like to see one on a grain ager but I bet you would need a twin to do that. I have even seen one on a push mower

I think they came out on washing machines but they have been adapted for just about everything. My great grandpa adapted one to run a well pump down at his barn (pre electricity and "city" water days). My grandpa was still using it well into the 90s when I was a teen.
@aserta7 жыл бұрын
Going by the foot starter, most certainly yes. Heck, now, don't quote me on it, but if the dirt distribution is telling me something it's that someone took this off a washing machine recently (on the grand scale of things, of course). They are good little engines, worth having one around the house.

Man I wish I could sent this old maytag muffler to you but I live all they way down in Kansas so shipping would be a huge headache though. But I bet you could find one. When did they start production on these? I have seen some real old washers but they usually come with different looking engines. Also were is the intake port I see the mixer but were is the port? Thanks for the vid👍
@805ROADKING7 жыл бұрын
We only live in NJ Bob!! So if you wanted to unload the muffler we'd pay the shipping Bud!! Maytag started making engines in 1915, this model was made from 27-37!!☺
@jfolck18867 жыл бұрын
So younger guy here. What were these engines used for and what is the pedal for?
@Chris_Ray977 жыл бұрын
Washing machines mostly. Back in the early 1900s before electric washing machines were a thing they would have been a real time saver. The pedal is to start it, similar to a motorcycle. That way you wouldn't have to be bent over trying to start your load of wash 👍🏼
@34bartm7 жыл бұрын
With this engine seeing little use and in original condition, maybe it would be a good idea to get it running but not clean it up and leave the patina. Not to say I don't like them all cleaned up, repainted, and looking like new. Just this one would be different in the great collection you have.
