I've always found it odd that people think of 70lbs as a perfectly acceptable standard weight, while 80lbs is way overboard heavy. I'd put them in the same exact category, both being way more than you'd ever need in North America. I'd but anything over 50lbs as total overkill. That said, I still shoot 85lbs and love every second of it.

Well said! Couldn't agree more! Shot placement is priority 1 and 50lbs can get it done all day long but there is something about shooting those finely tuned heavy poundage bows that we love!

After shooting all of this year's bows at 70 lb they draw so smooth and so easy compared to some older bows that I feel like 80 lb would be no big deal.

I have a V3 that I ordered at 75 lbs But came in hot as Mathews dose And it is tuned out at 80 lbs AND I LOVE IT !!! you must watch what you shoot ie: TARGETS do to the penetration One tip for the large guy DON"T show buyers to draw as you do your size well let you draw it but you should raise your elbow above your shoulder and use both arms to draw this will make it MUCH easer on your shoulder and chest And it will let you shoot a longer time as well

Definitely great info! Would love to see more 80lb bow reviews. Shot the Bowtech on performance and comfort. Performance is amazing shooter, but a bit of a bear in the front draw, comfort felt like 70lbs. It was very surprising. The Hoyt is amazing so easy to shoot all the new Hoyts so 80lbs would be too sweet! When they update the twin turbo and offer an 80lb’er its gonna be a speed demon! Smooth smooth and dead in hand! I agree 80lbs isn’t the same anymore, but smoother the better! Depends on the bow and the consistent draw cycles that can make it feel so easy!

I shoot 75lb at 29.5 draw on my V3. 80% let off so holding about 15. 545grain arrow tunes up perfectly. Can shoot out to 80yd for practice maybe a few more yds before i run out of clearance with sight housing. I love it!

@@titansfan2104 honestly i haven't shot through a chronograph so idk. The arrow has descent speed. I tell you what it smacks the target hard. The majority of my hunting is 20-30 yds and in. For me the set up is perfect. I do take a trip to SD for mule deer and if your shooting long shots 1-2 yd off on your range you will see significant arrow drop.

Seems like there’s a decent percentage of guys out there that when they were younger wanted to shoot as much weight as they could. Years later and a shoulder surgery they are now either hunting with crossbow or rifle as they can’t draw bows anymore. I’ll stick with 60#. A big consideration for me also goes into hunting whitetail and not getting busted drawing back. 60 lbs even bundled up on a cold day can draw very slowly and quietly and even stop mid draw if I have to. Each to their own tho. Shoot what you like best.

Wish you guys were closer to me. My local shop in Idaho treated me like I was an imbecile for ordering 80lb limbs for my new bow from them. Said they wouldn’t ever work on it if I went that rout. And I’m primarily an elk hunter. I shoot a heavy arrow, and 80lbs helps me get back to a good speed and trajectory with that weight.

Back in the day I used to shoot an 85 lb draw weight Hoyt Super slam supreme with a overdraw, I was shooting a 26 and a half inch 2216 xx75 arrow with 125 grain thunderhead broadhead which gave me 242 ft per second! I don't remember the arrow weight but with today's bows and the speed they are capable of I know I can shoot the same weight arrow faster at 70 lb! I also had a high country Excalibur with 80 lb limbs, it was quite a bit faster but I was shooting carbon Express 2540 arrows and 100 grain muzzy broadhead. I never did chronograph it though but it put a arrow through a black bear shoulder and exited out the other side so I know I had a lot of kinetic energy!

I'm fortunate enough to have the ability to draw 80 lbs rather easily. My 80 lb Elite Envy is no issue for me personally but others say it's harsh. Every body's muscle and bone structure is different.

Great video!!!! I pulled 80 back when i was 18 years old on a high county max force which was 24 years ago :) . While I could still pull 80 easily right now , my elbow had been bothering me for about 6 months. I took notice of your speeds you got with these and assuming all tools being accurate as I'm using my labradar. My 70 lb 29" draw mathews v3 shoots extremely close to a couple of those with a 475 gr arrow @ 287 FPS. I'm curious what the 80lb mathews will do. I'm guessing our chronos probably wouldn't match up either although my old chrony and labradar seem to be within a couple fps.

My 80 and 85# bows I usually shoot 30-40 arrows in a session and with my 70# I might shoot 50 tops but thats arrow after arrow before I feel my form loosening. I've shot 30 target 3d shoots with either with no issue because you have minutes between shots to rest. Score pretty much the same. I'm not a fan of shooting lots of arrows in one session, I much rather shoot a handful of arrows daily so even if I went to a 50# bow I wouldn't be shooting 100 consecutive shots.

A newer Hoyt or Mathews at 75-80 feels like older or lesser bows at 70. I'm shooting at least 300 a week at 75. If my Mathews went to 80 without twisting strings I'd shoot 80. If you can't draw at least 70 pounds comfortably without an injury are you shooting enough?

Matthews may not have an 80lb bow, however you can install wake limbs and pockets on them and get north of 100lbs depending on the draw weight module you use. I'd strongly suggest not using the 75lb mods as it is close to 110lbs draw weight and you may or may not delmainate a limb during draw, speaking from experienece. I dropped it to the 65lb mods and it max's out around 92lbs. 55lb mods are about 83-85lbs if I remember correctly.

Bowtech offered 80# models in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, skipped 2015 and returned to 80# with the signature Chris Kyle model of the Prodigy. I personally own a signature Chris Kyle Prodigy in 80 and it's butter to draw, and throws a big ol hammer down range.

As long as these bows are marketed to experienced archers i dont see the problem. I'm by no means mr muscles, I do have work strength. 70lbs was tough at first when I started into archery but after just 6 mos I pull 80 with ease. The added weight flattens your trajectory even with heavier arrows. I don't see a downside so long as you are using good form

Good vid guys.. Fellow NC 80# shooter here. Curious about your numbers because you said you were surprised at the InLine. I'm shooting an Xpedition X30 29" @ 80lb.. with my target arrow (450gr) I'm getting 306fps.. my hunting arrow (540gr) I'm getting 284fps.. multiple chrono's.. wondering why I'm getting higher numbers.. My bow is supposed to be 80% let off out of the box, but I'm really thinking it isn't that much (limb stops), but never measured it.. How much would less let off (5% or so) effect the fps? I shoot 70# at 32". I have people telling me that there's no reason to shoot 70# for whitetail, however I'm not going to run back home to drop off a 60# bow when a bear walks out in front of me. I've considered 80# bows but unless I get a chance to go out west I just don't see the need currently, I may still end up with one soon.

Guys how many shots you can do in a role before you can't pull the bow back? This is a critical question especially if you are shooting in a cold area. I shoot constantly in snow on the range temperature is always below 0 up to - 8 even at - 10 C so I have notice that the bows get harder to pull at that temperature.

@@MickyMouseLimited we like to be able to shoot 30 to 60 arrows consistently. We get quite a few guys who shoot our indoor and outdoor 3D events with their 80 pound hunting bows. You definitely want to have the endurance to be able to shoot the bow a lot.

But pulling 30 to 60 arrows in a row one with no brakes basically shooting 3 to 6 arrows per minute and making 60 arrows in the bull eyes with 80 pounds bow is something special. I've seen many people struggle to even pull 70lb bow back, it is obvious that some people are not built the way others are... I also know several people who have shot heavy bows for many years without issues. I personally have shot heavy bows my whole life... I currently have several that are over 100 lb draw, my elk hunting bow it set at 98LBS and I can shoot it all day, so when someone says that is too much weight they may be correct for some people but for me it is not an issue. For me pulling an 80lb bow back is like others pulling back a 50lb bow so how much is too much? The true test is to pull the bow back sitting or kneeling or standing on uneven ground... if you can do that then the weight of the bow is likely not an issue. I have shot may 3d courses and even won several shoots with my 100 lb bows so not only are they accurate but they can be shot all day without issues for some people.

revolt x80 is the best bow I have ever fired, It was sooooo easy to make the decision to buy it. Definitely should have though about arrow acquisition before getting it though xD 31 inches of draw length at 80 lbs calls for a stiff ass arrow

Cool vlog boys and I agree with everything that you have said in this vlog, but like you said do you really need to pull 80lbs when the main thing like you said "shot placement is the most important factor." So then wouldn't it make sense just to pull 70lbs instead of 80lbs a little easier to pull and you can also hold it longer especially if you are hunting in the cold and in a tree blind. At the end of the day boys pull whatever weight you want to keep up the great work boys!!

Shot placement is not different because of an increase in poundage. Infact lots of elite shooters prefer higher poundage and lower let off as that keeps them more honest against the back wall and more accurate

Because you can doesn’t mean you should. Or shouldn’t. Don’t get stuck in a bow that you can shoot at 80+ pounds but may not be the best hunting (draw, hold, let down, draw hold longer) bow if you’re a hunter. There is NOTHING wrong with 50/60/70 lb draw weights, or 80 if that’s what you want. Just make sure your money is well spent. My first bow was a High Country Safari @ 80lbs in 1990 w/ overdraw. 60% let off. If I could hunt that bow 80lbs today is cake for y’all who want to shoot the weight. Not me tough…Im old now and happy @ 65. Enjoy!

It's certainly not needed, but if you can draw 80# with ease it allows you to shoot a heavier arrow at faster speeds, which is ideal for hunting. IMO you get a more forgiving arrow in regards to shot placement on an actual animal. 2 holes is always best and if you have to take a shot at a less than ideal angle, I'd rather have a heavier/faster arrow coming out of an 80# bow, than the same arrow coming out of a 60#.

There are different factors that determine the speed the bow is putting out. It's not solely based on the draw weight. You have to take into consideration ATA, brace height. If you are looking purely for speed then you'll want something with a shorter brace height and shorter ATA that comes with costs such as a less forgiving bow that has a more aggressive draw cycle typically but if you want a more forgiving bow you'd want something with a longer ATA and brace height

cmon guys, 80 lb bows are not difficult to shoot lol. ive shot 80 lb bow back in the day when it was unheard of, i had a 80 lb hoyt spyder. they are not that big of a deal. Now my former bowshop owner had a 90 lb PSE EVL 32...now that was hoss to pull back.

It’s very rare to find a shop that is positive for 80# I have a monster 4 runner 100# pse gorilla 100# bowtech safari 80# and 100# limbs 92# Hoyt dangerous game have a older pse deep pocket its 110#. My recurves they run from 100# to 150# same with my longbows 80# to 160#. Then my warbow 90# 180#. Then you have joe Gibbs an others in Uk they shoot bows 180# 210# it’s just. Very rare things

Imagine freaking out and shaming people for shooting 80 lbs bows... 10 lbs heavier than 80 lbs. 10 pounds... not 50 lbs...10 lbs!!!!! A whole whopping- over the edge- freakishly insane 10 lbs. 😐 Get in the gym and start doing Dumbell rows or stay at home and use a TRX suspension trainer and go even heavier by using your entire bodyweight as your weight. It's not hard. Add sets of planks and sets of Pushups and do 5-7 working sets of 5-15 reps each set. Depends on your fitness level. Doing this alone will absolutely prepare you to shoot a 70 lbs bow without ever shooting a compound. Add in consistency like everything else in archery and both your health and your pull strength will improve. You don't have to be Hercules to pull 80 lbs. Go 80 lbs if you can.

“ two days on the bow &you think you’re hunt ready” is the IMO the way too too many people think. These people are NOT hunters by any standard. The sad part is this is the guy that will end up shooting one arrow into a 180” buck. I just can not comprehend this type of pure arrogant laziness. “ I’m so young and great shape if I shoot a few dozen shots or less and hit the bag, I’m good”. Same with the moron that never verifies his rifle zero before shooting at a deer. This type of person shouldn’t ever be allowed to purchase a hunt license. These bows for the last several years are so easy to shoot there’s no excuse to not get out and really put in some good solid shots. Rant over. Great bows reviewing here guys. PSE makes some awesome bows.

Been hunting off and on,mostly on with a 80 pound bow since the 90's. What's the big deal ? I'm 64 and still hunting with 80. As for these bows today being smoother than bows of yester year ? Wrong IMHO. I my old Hot Chuck Adams Super Flite might have been the smoothest bow I ever owned. But, it was far slower than todays bows. So for my money, todays bows are faster and more harsh by and large in order to keep in tune with the IBO ratings of other bows. For my moneys worth,archery in general @ any poundage should be accompanied by some sort of work out program to keep the shoulders and elbows in good condition. I happen to believe in weight training, and stretching to keep my body in tune to be able to shoot archery in general.

Pulling 80 or more or pulling 40 doesnt matter if the accuracy of the shooter is suspect.. its accuracy in the end that kills animals, not pull weight...😉

If i can fire a heavier arrow at higher speeds im gonna do that. im also 6 foot 1 240 lbs of life long weight lifter and career soldier.. 80 is fine for me. its definitely not for everyone and you can definitely smoke an animal at 55 or 60 all day long. Id never suggest anyone goes first time hunting at an 80 lb draw. like everything else you need to get behind your bow all year long and put arrows downrange.

Funny how you guys talk about bad form and injuries on the draw, and Mr Muscle still draws under the chin without using any large muscles. I guess when you are a gorilla, it doesn't matter.... Otherwise good content! I shoot an Rx7 Ultra at 70 pound 32" DL and with a 535 grain arrow it gets 278 fps. Plenty for any animal in North America.

Thanks for the advice I’ll keep that in mind! 70lbs is plenty especially with a 32” draw length, that’s why a lot of us shorter draw length guys like shooting 80 pounds to make up somewhat for the lack of draw length we don’t have. Thanks for watching!

Can't get past the stigma of a bow when you don't test all the 80lb bows head to head! Every one has there favorite! Don't do this test till you have the pse or mathews!
