"Their Levi's Cords were the only source of light." Clothing colors in the 80's were a bit bright, I'll admit. I don't remember pants actually being a light source though.

Wow; these days I'm an Olympics junkie, but these were the first Olympic Games that I watched seriously. 2:02--"Welcome to Miller time"--what an iconic jingle! Kind of funny how I remember a lot of beer commercials from the 1970's and 80's, since I wasn't old enough to legally drink the stuff until 1992. 3:27--I remember all the major networks had gimmicky slogans/jingles back then: "We're with you on ABC with you," "N-B-See Us," and CBS had "We've got the touch" and later "Share the spirit." 5:14--Classic spot for Rice Krispies--"Snap, crackle, pop!"

That Levi's commercial was so awesome. It's hard to remember how revolutionary they were when new. They are so tame now. hahaha

It's also a pretty damn old Frank Sinatra song. "Married With Children" didn't even exist in 1984. Nothing sneaky about it.

No. I can't remember the exact brand, but these Olympics tapes have a white label on them, so they definitely weren't recorded on Kodak. My Aunt & Uncle did record on several Kodak beta tapes though.

Steve Bosell Geeez. I was like, "Is this going to be one of those family/happy commercials for my church (LDS Church)?" But NO, it was a bud commercial. A blessed, cherished, never to be copied or compared to, truly original 80's Budweiser commercial. :D

Because the 1977-85 Impala was just the economy version of the Caprice in those days, right? Well, the same could be said for the 1965-76 Impala, excepting, of course, the 1965-70 Impala SS with its 396 (1965-69), 427 (1966-69) and 454 (1970) big-block V8s.

@llparad0xll I'm *really* tired of this argument. The 80's and 90's were (generally) periods of peace after decades of foreign entanglements. After a brief recession in the early 80's the economy took of to unprecedented heights. Popular culture for children and young adults was probably the best it's ever been. Before you accuse people of wearing nostalgia colored glasses, at least actually know the decade you're talking about.

I loved those "Gimme a light" ads when I was a kid. I could have sworn they didn't start until 86 or 87, though. Sorry, Ban, but "Love and Marriage" makes me think of Married With Children these days. Did the Levi's jingle actually say the cords were providing light? I wonder if any of the found loves on that short-lived show wanted to stay lost? Speaking of short-lived ABC shows, I'm not sure if a military base is exactly "innocent". And wow, mid-80s Chevys sure were ugly!

The first episode of Married With Children in 1987, I said..."Hey! They're singing the Ban deoderant commercial song!"
@timothysprengeler40713 жыл бұрын
2:32--The song is "Love and Marriage." I believe Frank Sinatra had a pretty big hit with his version. It did make a pretty darn catchy jingle for Ban deodorant! Also...back when deodorant came in roll-on and aerosol rather than the solid or "stick" format most common nowadays.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any era of the 20th century not influenced in some way by war or conflict. I would say the early 60's time period of "Call to Glory" was legitimately innocent compared to what happened on later in the 60's and 70's. I think the relative calm and prosperity of the 80's/90's was just a fluke in history. Hopefully we'll have another one really soon.
