@16:17, My family would stop whatever we were doing to watch Star Trek the Next Generation together. It came on Saturday nights where we lived in California. Our dad was in the Air Force and we lived in Air Force Base housing, so everyone had one or more parents who wore cammies to work. I think that's part of why Start Trek TNG appealed to me so much as a kid, it reflected the lifestyle I grew up in: adults wearing uniforms, people of lots of different backgrounds and cultures working and living together. All of these commercials remind me of how close our family was then, both relationship-wise and geographically. If I had a magical wish granted, it would be to live a brand new month in that time of my life, with my family the way we were then.

Guardian Legend is the very definition of a hidden gem on the NES. Bought it complete in box a few years ago, and immediately wondered how it was not a staple of my childhood. The game mixes overhead adventure and exploration like the original Zelda or perhaps Blaster Master with shooting like in Gradius or Life Force. Incredible soundtrack also. Definitely a Top 10 game for the console in my eyes.

Good thing I didn't have the Power Glove growing up despite the hype. The NES peripherals I have today are the NES Advantage & the NES Max, which both have turbo functions. Also, The Guardian Legend is a hidden gem of a game & I love that game.

Legacy of the Wizard definitely is a tough one. Have it in my collection, but haven’t been able to beat it. Definitely a game you need maps and a walkthrough for. I can’t imagine how kids beat it back in the day without a lot of hand drawn maps and a Nintendo Power subscription.

WPIX! Love it. I was watching Fox Kids after school in 1990 but I still loved me some TMNT! Plus the Tinnitus PSA was on WPIX since the 80s. As for The Guardian Legend, it really was a great NES game. It was part Zelda style exploration and part shoot-em-up. Developed by Compile that made many other NES shmups like Gun Nac, Zanac, and Space Megaforce on the Super NES. BTW, the Police Academy animated series was on... WPIX!

This was a good time. The peak of the Disney Afternoon for me. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was about to come out in theaters. I went to Disney World for spring break when the name Disney MGM Studios was still the third park's name. I always forget about "Spaced Invaders." "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" was available at a very welcome "priced-to-buy" price as those were becoming more common. I remember the clerk asking if I understood that it was $24 or whatever and for sale and not for rent, as if I did not know that being that the store did not even rent movies.

Though DuckTales and Rescue Rangers were a staple of syndication at this time, the Disney Afternoon block didn't actually premiere until the fall of 1990.

My dad didn't let me or my sister watch too much television on school days in those days, unless it was a special occasion. He only let us watch like three shows per day, or something like that. I remember trying to convince him that DuckTales and Rescue Rangers were part of the same show because the ending credits were stuck together like in this video. He didn't buy it. The Smithsonian was a huge part of my childhood. Every spring break, my mom took us to the Natural and American History museums, along with the National Zoo. We still go to the zoo and the museums every now and again these days, too. Mainly because I'm about 45 minutes to an hour away from Washington, DC by subway.

I remember seeing both Ernest Goes to Jail and Spaced Invaders at the theater that year. I honestly don’t remember much about Ernest, but I remember Spaced Invaders being very disappointing. It was a fun idea that just needed a better script.

1:22 My sister had the Flower Makin' Basket. Better not leave any crumbs of clay in the molds, or they'll clog, and you won't be able to use them again! The clay smelled like cheap perfume (which was kind of Super Dough's gimmick).

I've said this before on other videos but I got the Snack Shop in this video for Christmas in 1989 and probably only used it once because the dough dried up in the molds and made it unusable.

I did not expect to see Mush and Crutchy from Newsies (1992) in a Corn Pops ad!

Baby Bubbles- While this may be one of the most bizarre concepts for a doll ever created, I do admit that the jingle is pleasant to listen to. Recycle PSA- The man and the kid in this PSA have some impressive juggling skills. Tinnitus PSA- Pretty ominous feel in the atmosphere throughout this PSA while conveying the message of what Tinnitus is. Incredible Edible Egg- With the way this girl obsessively brags about eggs, makes me wonder if that’s the only thing she willingly eats at her house.

2:37 i saw in the description already that this commercial was in volume 1, but i put these 90s commercials on in the background and just noticed this commercial is the FIRST commercial in vol 1

Yes, that's the first commercial in that video, but I put it there on purpose because I liked it so much and thought it would draw people in. I was admittedly less honest in how I edited these back then and often omitted ads to keep videos under 10 minutes (back in the dark ages when KZbin had a 10 minute limit lol). I later reposted the contents of that tape in their original order in Vol. 75: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYrNd2SZjJx3rac

I’m so glad I never fell for the hype of the Power Glove. One of the most notorious peripherals released for the NES, it nonetheless got a lot of hype and attention. Despite selling well during its debut holiday season, it quickly fell out of the spotlight when kids realized how complicated and dumb the thing was. I think it only got one or two games that were made exclusively for it.

I wonder why they have a Master System game with that Sega Genesis package
@ryokaix
@ryokaix 9 ай бұрын
It can play Master System games with an official adapter Sega sold. Kind of necessary to meet the 30 games part of the deal since the Genesis was probably out about 6 months the time this was shown.

The Power Glove for NES-where would Lucas Barton be without it Cheerios-shouldve made a limited edition brand,"Cheerios X-TREME O's!!!" Guardian Legend for NES-actual game sadly did not have the sound fx heard here Spaced Invaders-a.k.a "Martians!!!",featuring a pre-Jurassic Park Ariana Richards Honey, I Shrunk The Kids-new movie"SHRUNK" in the works..with Rick Moranis co-starring 👍 Star Trek: The Next Generation-good episode..during the fight scenes i was wondering"..is Picard crazy trying to go toe-to-toe with a Klingon? 😨" Police Academy Hotline-later on there also was a live-action P.A series in syndication..didnt match up to the movies though

wow totally forgot broderbund ran ads for their NES stuff! I mean I could kinda see The Guardian Legend as a Zelda-like, but most of the ad featured the shooter segments! Legacy of the Wizard I really want to like, but the block-pushing puzzle parts are just clunky and annoying! maybe someday I'll have the patience to sit down and finish it once and for all.
