I recently changed my transmission filter and added about 11 quarts of atf on my 2003 Nissan Frontier SC. I realized many people have used around 4-5 quarts and was wondering if having too much atf is what's causing my gears to slip and slow accerleration?
@volodymyrbuchak18522 жыл бұрын
11 quarts is the whole capasity. You’ll never going to drain all the fluid just by opening the pan. In most cases it’s about 4 quarts. If you added 11 quarts,trans is flooded,and you just caused a permanent damage to it.

@danteeley68276 жыл бұрын
There is only one band in this unit (RE4R01A), it is engaged on the 1-2 shift and the 3-4 shift. It can be adjusted via a set screw on the exterior of the case, though if you are getting slip on any shifts, adjusting the band is not likely to help more than being a bandaid to get you up the driveway into the shop. Change your fluid or rebuild if the friction material is burnt up/worn out on the band or clutches.

Were any of the studs which hold the filter/strainer in place "loose" fitting? I saw one KZbin video on a Nissan Pathfinder transmission fluid change that three of these were actual bolts (as opposed to studs) which could be pushed upwards (and presumably "lost" in the transmission if you were not careful! Does this comment apply on the Nissan Frontier?
@RazorBucks7 жыл бұрын
Not that I recall, but let me review the unedited video and get back with you.
@locomotive600227 жыл бұрын
Take a look at kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGGyqJqYjMeCfdE It is a Pathfinder not a Frontier but you can see on this video that there are three (inverted) bolts that he has to remove the nuts from. I don't know what would happen if they accidentally got pushed up - But "What can go wrong will go wrong!". Looking at his video I get the impression that you could just leave the filter/strainer in place and vacuum out the debris because it is all on the underneath of the strainer. Most of the local auto shops just clean the existing filter in place and replace the transmission fluid . It may not be quite as thorough as replacing the filter but I get the impression it would be adequate. What do you think? Thanks.
@RazorBucks7 жыл бұрын
I am not able to verify the bolts. I did not have a good shot of it, but I did not see anything in the service manual for it. I also removed all the bolts, so I do not think that the other video would apply to this transmission, but I cannot be 100% sure.

First,check the fluid. If it’s still not burnt dark,but just a brown color,you can drain and fill. In those Nissan’s transmisions there is no filter,just a screen,it’s not required to be replaced,unless you have a mechanical problem inside,or a water damage. So,there is no need to drop the pan every time you do drain and fill. I do my every 25-30k.

Truck has to be on and the transmission in park position in order to accurately measure the level of the fluid... AT Trans you have to check with them running good video still
@RazorBucks7 жыл бұрын
That is correct, I was just trying to keep the noise down, due to the wind blowing. From the manual, Checking A/T Fluid 1. Warm up engine. 2. Check for fluid leakage. 3. Before driving, fluid level can be checked at fluid temperatures of 30 to 50°C (86 to 122°F) using “COLD” range on dipstick. a. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake. b. Start engine and move selector lever through each gear position. Leave selector lever in “P” position. c. Check fluid level with engine idling. d. Remove dipstick and note reading. If level is at low side of either range, and fluid to the charging pipe. e. Re-insert dipstick into charging pipe as far as it will go. f. Remove dipstick and note reading. If reading is at low side of range, add fluid to the charging pipe. Do not overfill. 4. Drive vehicle for approximately 5 minutes in urban areas. 5. Re-check fluid level at fluid temperatures of 50 to 80°C (122 to 176°F) using “HOT” range on dipstick.

Yeah those trucks transmission fluids were meant to be changed not the gasket or the filter there what you call The Last of the Mohicans they're permitted filters and gaskets the only time you change the gasket as if it's leaking and that's hardly never on Japanese vehicles you just change the fluid that's why they give you a drain plug but you didn't do too bad I'm watching this is from a real mechanic
