Agreed, 100% on your comment. At my advanced age, (61), it’s nice to see less T on display and just good, solid diving/spearing. Aaron seems like a good guy to hang out with. I can still, “dive my age” when it comes to depth, but they were out there all day and brought this fish up at the end of the day. Crazy!

I am impressed, I just getting int spearfishing,hours and hours of videos, learning a lot,but so much to learn, I am 64 100% disabled, I been training my breathing at the Y going on 4 weeks.I know how important it is to train,I can’t walk much, but I can swim, also doing equalizer hears, very important, I called a diving outfit,I plan on taking private lessons. Is that a grouper?... I had heard that it was illegal to harvest giant grouper. You can land them, and take a picture, but you had to catch and release. Did rules change?

I grew up on grassy key in the 70s. I would dive hawks channel a litte over 40 feet. Got many grouper back then. Deepest i dove was 70 and thst was very hard even in my prime. 85 feet? Your a rock star! Tjanks

I my neck of the woods, I shot a 300 Pds Jew/Golliat grouper when I was 15 yrs of age, Got cut off by rocks, swam back to shore, hicked to car, drowe home, got another spear gun , reversed trail and still found the fish there 2 hours later, 2 nd shot , shaft bended and broke off, watched for a while and went back home to never see him again, None of the shots hit him in vital spot, so he probbaly shed the first shaft with detachable tip and lived on with the tip of the second shaft, Dad and others recovered old shaft tips from other big groupers some times

I see you had polymer fins at the time, you advise me to switch to carbon fiber fins? I only go down typically 45-50 feet but it's the way up which takes what feels like an eternity

honestly the main difference I noticed in the two is with carbons I can last a lot longer. they are very light and you get more from each kick. I think you would noticed a huge difference diving 50 ft with carbons

Nice. I have no idea what my largest was. Old man shot plenty of jewfish over 300lbs. Freediving. Did not have to dive as deep as stateside for big fish. Should send you some pics. Some people have been "taught" that they are endangered and all the rest of it, won't get into it, but in the Zone, they were taken quite regularly, and delicious too. Sometimes his 3/8 SS shafts looked like a pretzel. Could not believe the power of those fish. But we ate well.

That was an incredible fish! What was the species of this fish? It looks like a grouper of some sort but idk which.
