Americans building a serious VOLVO 850 estate BTCC replica track car? SUBBED!
@fcpeuro4 жыл бұрын
Hey Akersjon 278! Although Nate "slipped up" a bit in saying Replica initially we made sure not to use that in any copy, (title , description etc) as its not something we wanted to convey since in the end this will not be a perfect Replica (although that is the dream!). We had hoped with laying out the clear plan of not even using the same generation engine that people would not be expecting a 1:1 replica but instead understand we are using the BTCC estate as inspiration and motivation of the build to get it close to something in the same realm as the original (with our own taste/spin on it). Hope you stay subbed to see what we come up with, and sorry if it was misleading!
@akersjon2784 жыл бұрын
@@fcpeuro No worries mate! (as they say down under) The fact that your using a V70 engine instead of a genuine TWR 850 one, kind of gave the fact that this won't be a perfect replica away right from the start... But that's ok, it's the overall spirit and ambition of the project that interests me. If you succeed in getting your Frankenstein build to look like the genuine article, sound really good and be genuinely competitive at the track, I'm more then happy to follow this project to the finish line... In fact one could say that your project follows in the footsteps of TWR and VOLVO of the time, they also cut a few corners in their build (all the time making damn sure that they stayed inside the BTCC rule book however...). I do hope that you change the color on that V70 engine from lilac to blue though...lol! Merry X-mas from Sweden.

America had also their series, with same category homologation race cars, but mainly consisted of Chryslers, Acuras, BMW's and Audis. Based on their brands and availability of cars in America. It was an homologation series even South Africa had their series called Satcar, including Australia Japan and many other countries. Unfortunately high performance normally aspirated/All Motor 2.0ltr sequential race cars at that time was not popular in America only v8s. There was even a world championship event at the end of each year at that time (90s) when all the same category cars with all the national champions from around the world challanged each other. A few of the rules were.... -All cars had to be 20ltr high compression (high reving) -Sequential transmissions ITBS (idividual throttle intakes) -Heavily engineering chassis and body structure(stitch welding galore extremely ridgid). -Wheel arches and race car engineering grade rollcages. -Tubbed wheel arches for lower centre of gravity. - Single wheel nut construction custom made to order from supplier.(Magnesium metal) -Engines centre of gravity was also lowered (dry sump) as well so reconstruction of the engine mounts and gearbox(sequential) had to be done. These cars engines sit really low to the ground like a go carts even the drivers seat position is very close to the transmission wall for even weight distribution. -Custom fabricated sub frames and suspensions due to the cars low centre of gravity, so nothing original. -Including the best adjustable race car suspensions and this all occured from 1993 - 1999. There is a Touring car collectors website where you will find info on all the touring cars raced from around the world and current loctions and owners. www.supertouringregister.com/ m.facebook.com/SuperTouringRegister/#_=_ British Touring Car Championship - BTCC Japanese Touring Car Championship - JTCC South African Touring Car Championship - Satcar Australian Touring Car Championship - ATTC ITALY SPAIN GERMANY FRANCE Macau- Asia......... Guys, when you use the term replica, you know it means creating an identical car, or clone if you like, of the original Volvo 850 Estate BTCC, right? If its not an exact replica then you should just use the term Tribute-car instead.. To many people use the term replica so lightly, as people often only put in a rollcage, some similar wheels and foil it in a livery of which ever car they're trying to mimic. Now I'm a hardcore Volvo Motorsport enthusiast, hence why I'm doing my point.
