The anime doesnt tell you this because of story pacing, but the thing about the battery life is that the Legion are constantly being charged by solar power. Those butterflies? They not only disrupt conventional communication, but are drone batteries that collect solar energy. They are also the reason why there are no aerial fighters, because the butterflies will fly right into the engines and ammo stores then explode from the inside. So not one Legion unit is in danger of running out of power because of them covering the sky.

The reason they are moving in one direction is because of shins ability. He knows there are no legion in a large area to the east. They have no idea why so they are just moving that way to find out.

facts people are too ignorant for their own good, openings are NEVER spoilers because they have no context, you only realize that it was like that after you've watched through the series. guarenteed most of these people saying dont watch the intro actually watched it themselves for the first time and had no clue what it was about only until after finishing the show only to then go and comment about how its a "spoiler" which its not and ruin others experience.

So far is only one season ,which ended today with ep 23, but the story far from over. They adapted only first 3 volumes from light novel, there are 11 vols in japan and vol 12 will come soon

Just so you know, in season 2 we get some info about the weapons the juggernauts were equipped with - namely 88mm gun, and there are other weapons effective against the smaller legion such as 12.7x99mm NATO (.50 BMG) - so it isn't entirely impossible for a battle rifle to have enough energy on target to deal with some of the Legion.

They are all human. Alba's are grey-haired humans, Alba's call other humans as pigs if the color of hair are not the same as theirs. 86 is where the squad station is located, this is the last base/squad for a non-Alba can be assigned. The 86 squad members can only be replenished if all members are dead, unlike the other squads. Every 86 member came from a different squad, once they are assigned to 86, they already know that this is the last mission. If they survived they will be freed by the Albas but unfortunately, all 86 squad member dies because dead members will not be replaced from another squad to add manpower.

first half of season 1 that ya just finished was vol 1 and the author did not realize people would like it so much. So it was supposed to be the end of a story... then they realized crap people want more and and wrote vol 2 in a way to start off from here. That is my understanding at least.
