What a great pick and beautiful lock, it never ceases to amaze me how small the core looks when extracted from such huge metal housings.

While I found the lock itself is a real solid anti-theft deterrent, it can unlike many smaller locks have the cylinder replaced with a wide choice of available cores, as kindly demonstrated in this video. I've chosen to install a Yale dual element pin-in-pin & slider euro cylinder, which really adds to the time required to pick two separate elements. WHEN YOU CAN'T BRUTE FORCE A LOCK OPEN, THE OPPORTUNISTIC THIEF WILL WALK AWAY EMPTY HANDED EVERY TIME!

Nicely done sir. I do believe the reason why it is easier to pick with the flat top comes down to the very reason locks are pickable to begin with. That small change allows the tolerances of the shear line to be that much more sufferable.

My experience at drilling round stuff at work, is that you can drill more accurately against a flat surface and the drill wont wander or flex. So my guess is that you might have better tolerances making it more difficult to find a binding order. Not that it seems to slow you down any. Great vid

Good video. After a failed attempt to steal my son's quad last night, I purchased this very same KASP padlock today, (15 security rating) to prevent another physical attack. I wish however I had seen your video. I'm in agreement with you, I've now replaced the core with a steel cylinder & an almost gnarled key bidding! They ran as soon as the Magnum Titan disc lock screamed at them... LOL

That is an intimidating lock. So cool you can fit a standard size euro! I think I'm a typical man brain in that I always gravitate towards these huge locks when looking at locks to purchase. Even though typically their size doesn't seem to add to their pick difficultly.

I'm seeing a fair bit of this. The Huno 80 from a couple days ago is another example... CEN 5, and open in under a minute.

That's a big one - wow! Awesome picking. I hate these flattened plugs. They make the shear line wider and cause and easier pick. But they also prevent sticky keys when there is wear on key or pins with the time. (just my thoughts).
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
Thanks... the MT5+ currently residing in this lock fixes that problem nicely. :-)
@peterestall8 жыл бұрын
Nice one, I have the same lock and love it, but still haven't managed to pick it, and the bitting looks quite similar to yours. Mine has the pins that hold the anti drill plate to the core pushed in flush so the plate spins, probably makes it more drill resistant and doesn't help with picking either.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
Thanks -- got your package yesterday, along with this locks. I'll dig in soon. Thanks. As for the little flush pins and the spinner, I have them also (but mine were held in place with grease), but can't figure them out. If the plate spins, the pins will drop out the bottom of the lock. I don't understand what they are there for.

Glad they arrived OK and thanks for letting me know. I haven't got a clue about the pins, mine are jammed in and wont fall out??

Hi LPL, loving the videos.... on the pinning tray here I notice 2 small steel pins. You never mentioned those? Also are there ANY commercial lock cores with threaded chambers?
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Those pins index the anti drill plate on the front of the lock. They are not really needed, and will fall out with use. I think they are there for the manufacturing process, but that's just a guess. As for threaded chambers, there are some ASSA and Ruko locks that have threading from the factory.

Hi LPL, I really love your videos, I’m new to you channel and am madly binging through the back catalogue, how did you go fitting the MT5 core, not well I’m guessing, the bottom cover would prevent a perpendicular key from entering the cylinder, my suggestion would be to reuse the original cylinder, in a split core arrangement, the drill protection plate should hold the front section of the core in place, regards and thanks for all the hours you have put into teaching /entertaining me.

It drops right in, but you turn the key counterclockwise to unlock. 👍

Is the cylinder swap straight forward? The Euro cylinder appeared to have 2 pins for the anti-drill plate. Can a new cylinder be fitted without them? Also, would you happen to know the cylinder size? Many thanks.
@lockpickinglawyer7 жыл бұрын
The swap is easy... no need to pin the plate. Without the pins, it acts as a spinner!
@raga77295 жыл бұрын
Pins are there for a reason. They are to hold anti drill plate in place, so keyway is always open. When someone is drilling they will brake off. When he replaced the core he lost the function of keyway being always ready to accept the key. If anti drill plate spins out of place you going to have to rotate it in place before inserting they key.
@SaarYanivsaar6 жыл бұрын
how can you replace between the locks -the dimple key-hole orientation is different from the the original lock, it seems that with the dimple lock inside, the hole orientation will be like the tumbler when it's in open position, because of the restriction of the front metal plate. you will able to turn the key (when the dimple is inside) only anti clockwise. the dimple may turn, but will it activate the actuator correctly, when turned to the other side?

@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
Most half euro profile cylinders of the proper length will fit. I doubt a diamant would fit... my concern would be getting the key past the retainer plate.
@JohnDoe-fn1me8 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the advice, and yes you are correct about the keyway. I am based in Europe and would realy appreciate if you could tell me on which website I could order the ML MT5+ cylinder for this padlock as I was unable to do so for the last 3 months :(
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
The prices on normal web stores are very high. I've found the best prices on ebay... I'd help you look, but my searches only show sellers who will ship to the USA, and not necessarily ones that will ship to Europe. If it helps, my price target for an MT5+ core is normally $60-70USD, which is attainable on ebay... if you want to buy right away (without waiting for the "right" price), you will probably end up spending more. Also, be sure to measure your core before ordering and get something that is the same size. IIRC, it should be roughly 30mm, but you should definitely check.

Sir, you are have been very helpful and I want to say thank you. Also if is is possible to include Abus 20/80 Diskus Plus padlock in one of your future videos and your opinion of their overall security rating for their padlocks and cyliders that they have. Thank you very much.

It looked like the key didn't work until you pulled it out about a 1/16". Or is that due to the key normally hitting the anti-drill plate?
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
You are exactly correct. The spacing is based off the plate, not the face of the lock.
@dbillionaer8 жыл бұрын
not sure how you would get the mt5+ in there to work with that bottom plate being made for a vertical keyway unless you just drill it out to a full circle
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
It works because the key can be turned 90 degrees IN EITHER DIRECTION to open it. :-)
@AnselChin8 жыл бұрын
Would it be correct to say that by milling a flat on the top of the core has the effect of lowering the tolerance for the shear line? The shear line has grown wider because the core no longer fits snugly against the bible.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking, but I guess it would depend on how much you milled off. If you don't go beyond the pin edge, then it may not have any effect in that manner, because it is at the edge where the binding takes place.

This is an update, per the LPL's suggestion, to my project of upgrading the KASP 19070x with an MT5+ cylinder. After about 45 days of shipping time from Isreal, I located a locksmith who was able to cut the 33/43 cylinder down making the 33mm part (30mm actual) usable in the KASP. It was not exactly a drop-in cylinder in that shimming was necessary to gain full functionality, however, after a bit of fiddling I got the right shims and all works great. No other modifications were necessary. All Kasp parts were used minus the factory cylinder. Contact information if others also want to do the upgrade is as follows. Unit ordered from shafaniko11@yahoo.com and cost was around $118 USD. I located this seller on Isreal eBay. I could not locate a 30mm cylinder. The 33/43 cylinder part# is 51302670. Phone# in Isreal is 1-800-800-108.
