I don't think it's a problem. When you know someone loves you and they know you love them, it's not required to say it. Sometimes other things are on our mind or we don't necessarily want to say the words aloud because of the environment we're in (like if you're at work with a client or whatever). I was raised to always say it back because I'm ruled over by the fear that Cecil portrayed near the end of the episode-that one day I will see my family members for the last time without realizing it and not verbally reciprocate my love for them, regretting it for the rest of my life. But Cecilos is strong, and both Carlos and Cecil are very smart people. They know how the other feels. And not saying "I love you" back once-which, considering Cecil's reaction to realizing it, was the first time EVER-doesn't showcase the fact that anything in their relationship is failing. Cecilos is probably my most favorite pairing ever, because they are written the very most out of all of my OTPs to feel like real, actual people with less than perfect conversations and home life and what have you. Real people, unlike characters written out for books and movies and TV shows, forget things. They make mistakes. That's what makes them feel real, though. And I'll bet Cecil went home that exact night and apologized profusely, or at least called him and did so, and I'll bet all of my money that Carlos didn't care. Like I said, he knows.

Cecil's question for Maureen hit close to home for me. My mother died almost two years ago and the last thing I said was bye because I was running late for work. I usually told her I loved her and/or hugged her and I didn't that day. It's one of my biggest regrets. So, to hear it put into words like that kinda hurt. Take every chance you have to tell someone you love them. Tell them for no reason. Tell them for every reason. Don't let something unspoken haunt you.

THEORY TIME! Carlos was not acting like his usual self. Maybe, he discovered something that made him believe that Night Vale is doomed. Although he could probably leave, he knows that Cecil won't. So he's become resigned to his fate. Carlos doesn't want Cecil to know because; A) he doesn't want Cecil to lose hope like he has B) he doesn't want Cecil to blab it over the radio causing a city wide panic. He wants Cecil there with him so he can spend his last days with him. Oh, Glow Cloud, please let me be wrong.

I absolutely loved everything about this episode (first time I've been captivated by and listened to the full weather in months) but my favorite by far is using Emma Frankland, a nearly unknown theater/performance artist and notable transgender woman, as the voice of Sheriff Sam. If WTNV is anything, it's inclusive. And weird. But mostly, wonderfully, inclusive.
