A wonderful actor . After Gilligans Island it was Casey Jones that I loved him in. TV was so good back in the 60's. So much better than it is today.

Wow . In 1986 same as this was made 20 years after gilligans island original alan hale jr. visited a local marine sales company on television in phoenix near my house . You could go and see him and talk boats and gilligans island . That was almost 40 years ago .

I miss the days when TBS paid great tributes to the older shows, often hosting reunion-type specials, or just some "wraparound" material (featuring the show's cast members) to show at commercial breaks and between episodes. I remember ones they did with "The Munsters" and "Sanford And Son".

Isn't it just a wonderful show? Alan Hale Jr. reminds me so much of my late grandfather, who was born about a year after Mr. Hale. The Greatest Generation, as they are known, was Generation A+ to me, and is/was the greatest generation in many peoples' hearts.

My parents were children when gilligan's island was originally broadcast. I was introduced to the show by them. I am a fan, and have all the episodes on dvd. Rest in peace Jim, Natalie, Alan, Bob, and Russell, never forgotten.

I saw him on an episode of Andy Griffith , where he played a man who was flirting with Barney Fife's girl friend. Whenever he'd encounter Barney he would refer to him as " little Buddy" like he was talking to Gilligan.😊 Also, Alan Hale Jr. had a cameo on a "Batman" episode that featured Vincent Price as " Egg head." He ran a restaurant. In his cameo scene his small part characters name was Gilligan. This episode was from 1968, one year since Gilligan's Island went off the air. Gilligan's Island, 1964-1967.

I remember seeing a rerun of this in the early 90s, when I was in grade school and a friend of mine got me addicted to Gilligan's Island. Every evening after school we'd watch Gilligan's Island on TNT or TBS and talk abt it excitedly the next day. Nice memories.

He seemed like such a sweet guy.......and really enjoyed being "The Skipper", even off camera.....people really loved him for that role. I'm sure that, like the others in the cast, the show hurt his career and kept him somewhat typecast.....but, in the end, it turned him (and them) into beloved cultural icons, known world-wide.

Another great "Skipper" turn from Hale was in the 1959 James Garner vehicle "Up Periscope." He's basically the sidekick under sub captain Edmond O'Brien and plays basically the same GI role as comic relief in a tense WWII thriller in the Pacific. Check it out.

Loved the show growing up! Sadly these shows would never be made today! SJWs would never allow greats comedy shows about nothing to be made. Everything now is about being inclusive diverse and having a SJW message. If at anytime in American history we needed a good show about nothing to put a smile on your face and happiness in your heart is now! Thank god we have re-runs and DVDs.

Just wait until the Twitter mob has a slow day and decides to go after non-PC episodes of old shows like the one about the Japanese soldier Alan mentioned. They'll get episodes removed from all streaming services and future disc releases. The old shows are not safe from them.

@4:11 the great Mr. Hale was given mistaken information on his cue card. He stated that the inaugural episode of Gilligans Island was the first and only time that the skipper and the professor's real names were mentioned. But in the episode "Erika Tiffiany Smith to the rescue, I specifically heard Russell Johnson introduce himself as Professor Roy Hinkley.

Btw One time it was the fault of the other 6 castaways that the raft sank the others including the Professor who told them not to bring any gold on the raft did while Gilligan didn't and then he said 'Now that's a switch because usally I'm the only one left holding the bag."Then like before they still all got mad at him anyway and this time by facial expressions of anger.
