Just to note regarding E-Buggies, there's been experimentation with 2S batteries and 1/10th scale 4WD SCT running gear as a sort of "E-Buggy Lite" class for smaller tracks. I've only seen some videos of it though, it hasn't seemed to catch on yet.

They did this years and years ago using the 4wd slash, pro8 I've seen it called. I wasn't in the hobby at the time it was occuring, I discovered it's existence while trying to find ways to make a 4wd nitro sct. From what I saw, a lot of the pro8 builds looked extremely expensive (basing this off of the all aluminum builds I found). I don't know objectively what kept the class, pro8, from catching on like I don't know what kept 4wd nitro sct from catching on. From what I've seen, pros despise sct and actual truggy bodies because they don't behave like buggies. IMO, the unpredictability is half of the fun.

@@CplVeers That... wasn't just 4WD slashes. Sure, people did do /backslash conversions but most of the Pro8 buggies were full-on 1/8th scale buggies with 4WD SCT power systems. The class probably didn't take off because it didn't really have anywhere to go - 4WD SCT was already starting to get booted out of indoor tracks for being "too powerful and heavy" and outdoors there was no real reason to run Pro8 over E-Buggy apart from cost, but unfortunately cost has generally been a non-priority to most racers and track owners. Nitro 4WD SCT just came at a bad time for nitro in general. When all the high-end brushless systems and LiPo batteries that could actually handle the current draw started coming out, there was a huge overall shift towards electric power across the board. Now, things have balanced out and nitro still maintains its place in the racing scene even though it's fallen out of favor with the bashing crowd, but at the time everyone was claiming that nitro was on its death bed and no one would ever run it anymore.

Nitro is the glory absolutely worth the learning curve in my experience once you have quality equipment and a good understanding of the mechanics and tuning it’s actually quite easy and so much more rewarding that first race with no flame outs is euphoria

Great video again, dude, lots of good info! I'm not much of an RC race driver myself, but I keep being drawn to the cool-factor of 8th scale buggies!

Actually the very first Serpent Cobra was the first iteration of a modern buggy. The Burns was a refinement 3 years later. Also to disregard the road classes doesn't do the hobby justice. 8th gt nitro class is by far the most difficult test of drivers skill along with car setup and preparation. The premier class RC wise.

Am kinda thinking about getting back into RC, most likely 1/8 E Truggy since they're just my favorite. But damn, getting back in would be more expensive than I though it would be.
@RoachRC7 ай бұрын
It is indeed quite costly. Though the initial cost for a truggy will be higher, you won't have to worry about burning through tyres over and over again like with other classes

Would you consider doing a video on the different 1/8 truggies available? Or do the offerings exhibit pretty much the same characteristics as their buggy counterparts?
@RoachRC9 ай бұрын
They're pretty much the same as buggies. It would be kind of redundant to do a truggy video unless something drastically changes

I need a second class to run at 8th scale tracks (TARCAR specifically). And I'm 6 years away from being able to register for 40+. I have a b4e. I'm torn between getting a same model nitro car and getting an electric truggy. On one hand, being able to share parts, wheels, and setups between the 2 cars is appealing, but the costs of nitro sort of offset that. On the other hand I could go etruggy, but then I have to deal with insane tire costs, and far less shared parts. I've been fighting this internally for several months and can't choose. Nitro seems fun, but daunting and expensive. Etruggy also seems fun, less maintenance than nitro, but dang that tire cost, and a whole new car worth of parts to keep on hand :(

I would like to know what is the meaning if “1:8 schale”. I mean, 1:8 of what? Revell aircraft sets are 1:143 schale, or whatever. But is one model from other real model. But in RC, what is 1:8 schale? 1:8 from what…? Cheers!
