It REALLY depends on the usecase. I got the Ewa Marine UW-A for our A7iv and Sony 20mm F1.8 combo, at 160euro - for us it was a no brainer. Our use case would be summer shots in Greece, taking the camera in a pool or in the sea without caring for the camera to get wet and we also wanted underwater snorkelling shots, and very shallow - free diving. First real-world use was in Silfra, Iceland. Considering the water was 2degress Celcius, I was wearing a dry-suit and could still adjust (with a bit of effort) my aperture and switch through my "1-2-3" presets on the dial, I really loved the results. I could frame everything very well and the videos turned out super clear. No fogging or any issues. Also you can use silica gel satchets to reduce any potential humidity. Maybe they are better when new or better manufactured but it looks better built than the one you are using, it's a tighter fit which makes the floppy nature of the case to sort of disappear. This makes the viewing easier, and even when slightly bulging you can softly touch the back of the camera with your fingers to stretch it out. It will never be as good as the Nauticam with a domeport or even Seafrogs. But it's much cheaper, easier to transport when you are not using it and safe enough. At the same time it's Universal as long as you use the same mm lens thread (max 67mm for the UW-A) so I can use different cameras if the lenses fit. Even if it breaks my A7iv it's still cheaper to buy a new camera + lens than buy a Nauticam. But at the end of the day if you are mainly shooting underwater, surfing, 50/50 it probably is worth the investment

There is also a noise sensor in the housing that will go off it water touches it. You can also get floats for the arms to help it be buoyant. When I dive it is weightless. I'm actually moving to Marelux soon as it is cheaper and has the same functionality as Nauticam

i use an Aquatech its best suited for surface level action in surf condition but can go down to 10 meters I also have no problem getting a setup with a couple ports and lens in my backpack. the backpack is made for the Auqutech but it dose back it easy to get it on to tuff cliff surfing spots . The housing you use is more suited for scuba diving then snorkeling but not to say you cant use it in the way you used it. i just feel you would have to struggle with he ergos a little more overe say something that had a pistol grip and two stage Triger.

Hello, i am actually interested about the last question on how do you travel with it ? I just came back from a trip with such a gear and it was a bit complicated to fit in a bag so I had to carry a big luggage because it was the only I could fit it somewhere. So very curious about what setup you chose for this to travel ?

Depends all on what is needed. If it is for fun, Ewa Marine is good enough. If you are on a mission critical paid shoot, hands down Nauticam. Missing the money shot due to not being able to see or broken camera from water ingress is just not acceptable in those situations.

I've tried sort of like the same plastic bag like you used and after shooting and being on the boat again I've found out I've accidentally switched from AF to MF during the placement of the camera. All shots failed so FML. Looking to get a Seafrogs case now but the only times I would use it is on holidays.

How can you go with your plastic bag to 30 m? It is absolut not comparable. Try on Macro shoot with your plastic bag, then we talk again. And how can anybody ask here if the image quality is the same without knowing anything about cameras? How do you use a flash with your plasticbag?

$8000 is an absolute rip off for a housing. Honestly I’m shocked they are able to sell one unit. I dive 130’ with my housing and it cost me $550 and I have every single feature the $8000 housing has. I use a fuji xt4 in my housing which produces incredible images and videos.

Better use a camera condom because seafrog has acrylic dons which leads to a lot of reflection inside the dome … not aweful but it’s bulky vs a camera condom 😊

@@Pierretlambert Seafrogs has a 6" glass dome now, just ordered with black friday sale. Going with a housing over condom because I scuba dive and it's rated up to 40m. Beginner setup that allows me to book a couple dive trips with the savings over nauticam lol...
