I have a 2019 Carbon 90 Instinct BC with upgraded carbon wheels, carbon bars and substantially lighter seat, 30 pounds even WITH Stamp 11 pedals. To be honest its more of a bike than i really need riding blue trails at age 65 and yes it likes to be ridden hard and i feel very confident on it. Fantastic bike and considering i bought it as a leftover in January 2020 and got a fantastic price so the upgrades were easily worth it. I agree with your tire comment, mine has the same spec., the grip they offer is worth the drag on pavement in my opinion, i am considering a 2021 Element Carbon 90 but will keep the BC

Very surprised to hear your take on the tires. I was excited to hear a manufacturer have DD maxxgrip tires stock! That's definitely appropriate tires if you're putting the bike through what it was made for... personal preference and different riding terrain I guess.
@vitalmtb3 жыл бұрын
we did like them for the race environment or wetter climate. the rear maxxgrip on our home trails (generally dry, loose, rocky) won't last long. the other bikes spec'd with maxxgrip up front and maxxterra out back seem to make sense for the bulk of rider, however, even in EXO+ casing.

How doest it really climb compared to the 29er long travel bikes out today?
@profischimmler64283 жыл бұрын
probably comparatively good given the lowish weight, albeit probably still borderline cumbersome. As they mentioned in the vid, you'll likely notice heavier tires but that is not new. A knob turn aint no crime tho! lock'n'roll

@aguyholding10243 жыл бұрын
So which climbed better, the Altitude or the slash?
@vitalmtb3 жыл бұрын
good question. like mentioned in the video, the tires made a huge impact on the bike. comparing the exact bikes we tested, the trek climbs better compared to this rally version of the altitude. if the rocky had exo+ tires with maxxterra rubber, it would be really close and almost a moot point. the rocky is helped by the climb switch in fire road settings while the trek didn't seem to need it as much. some LSC adjustments could also help seated pedaling on the rocky, too.
@aguyholding10243 жыл бұрын
@@vitalmtb Thank you for responding. I'm pretty sure my desire for one of these longer travel bikes is not in line with the needs of my areas trails but just something about them is appealing.

in the high setting, you get a 15mm (.6 inch) bb lift from slack setting. it might work if you ran a high volume tire, but bb would still be on the low side.

@@vitalmtb That wasnt really a rant about you specifically. If i look around the popular MTB channels this has become a trend in recent years, and it sucks. A sure fire way to increase your reputation with guys like me would be to just send those dentist bikes back and ask for a midrange build to review.
@jaysmallen30673 жыл бұрын
I do wish some brands would get off their crazy high pricing. I'm currently on a 18 slayer that I got used and love the bike. I don't know many people in my circle of riding buddies that will pay out that kind of cash for any brand bike. Most my friends laugh their asses off at this kind of pricing. Especially when other brands offer bikes for way less that'll compete with the big buck bikes. With the same components lol. Must be a niche market thing lol. There's just too many great bikes out now that are priced way better than RMB, Yeti, Specialized, Trek etc... Maybe there's way more people with crazy deep pockets than we know of? 🤙🏻😁
@BrettSampson3 жыл бұрын
I think these manufacturers send out the top builds for review because it would be a shame if the build spec held back the bike. I like to hear reviews with the top build and I know I can buy the cheaper model and upgrade where I see necessary. The $3,500 version is still well spec’d.

Nice bike, transmission and brakes. Raceface cockpit and wheels 🤮... most unreliable products on the market: poor construction and materials, flimsy, and easy to break. Replace that with One Up Component cockit pit, Chromag peddals, and We Are One wheelset and you’ll have a top quality crotch rocket! 🚀
