I watched the second plane hit the tower, and both towers collapse live on TV. And then I went to school. It was the strangest day because the teachers tried to act like it was a normal day. I've had the opportunity to go to ground zero a few times. However, I visited Shanksville, PA, before that memorial was finished. FDNY’s Battalion 7 Chief Orio Palmer 🇺🇸👨🚒🚒. Chief Palmer was known to be the most physically fit firefighter in the FDNY, on 9/11 he would lead his firefighters to the 78th Floor of the South Tower, just below the raging flames, trying desperately to reach people trapped who were on the phone with 911 Dispatchers. Battalion Chief Orio Palmer did a radio check just as the trapped individuals told the dispatcher they could hear him coming closer to them. Seconds later the South Tower collapsed, for just a moment those who were trapped got to feel some Hope before they died bc Chief Orio Palmer & his firefighters all said “I Will Go”. He’s just one of many heroes this country lost that day, & in the years following it.

I remember getting frantically woken up for school by my sister and watching the first tower go up in smoke, then shortly after hearing about the 2nd plane hitting. It was super scary and I remember sitting in class and the teachers wouldn't let anyone talk about it. Later, I remember seeing people jumping off the towers and it instantly reminded me of the dream I had. I also remember my dad being super angry about it. Years later around 2008-2010 my best friends cousins enlisted and became an EOD, he watched 3 of his friends get killed. A year later he got medically retired after his 2nd deployment from an IED and catching shrapnel on the left side of his face and losing his eye. God bless all the men and women who sacrificed their lives and parts of themselves fighting in this horrible war.

I was in 5th grade. I can't remember if our teacher told us before or after lunch, but the gym was right outside the lunch room, and she sat us all down and told us that planes had hit the World Trade Center. I had no idea what the WTC was, and by "plane" I assumed she meant a little Cessna or something, so I wasn't sure why this was news for us. Then she told us our parents had been called, and that we were going home early because a lot of our parents worked for the government (we were near DC). My mom picked me up and told me dad was working late. He was a firefighter in Fairfax County and responded to the Pentagon. When I heard that, I started getting scared, and then I saw what was happening on the news. Dad says he didn't get home until well after midnight, and that he didn't go to bed. He just sat in us kids' room, and drank himself drunk while watching us sleep. He had a lot of PTSD from that day and everything that was filmed and talked about after.

I am front line healthcare, (most military call it flu season) COVID was such a scary battle for a lot of us. I watched a family of 9 die. The two DO NOT compare, but I did get a glimpse of the feeling of “you might get me, but not before I get you B!tch!” Just know any level of grateful you feel for us, we feel so much more for you and yours. @tj6930 I want to thank you, for being there not only for those that are injured, broken, and battling health issues! Your job is just as, if not more important than the years I was in law enforcement. I feel that first responders and front line workers go hand and hand. We both feel and see the tragic actions of others, and have to find a way to deal with that for the rest of our lives. But we help eachother. I pray that we won't endure another 9-11, but I feel like there is something evil on the horizon that is about to rear it's head in our nation. I hope I am wrong. Even though I no longer wear the uniform, I will always be a first responders and help others. And I still volunteer in that capacity at my church. But again, thank you for your willingness and heart to help others and being there for them!

It was a typical Tuesday morning in the xray department of a busy hospital; phones ringing off the hook, people coming and going in all different directions... The TV news reported a plane had hit the world trade center. Everyone assumed it was a small plane and though still a tragedy, wasn't enough to cut into the normal action of the morning. When the second plane hit, everything stopped. The whole place went silent for probably two whole minutes.... Looking back, it was the pearl harbor or the Kennedy assassination of our time. Everybody will remember exactly where they were when it happened. Hopefully, we never forget. 🇺🇸❤💪

I remember where I was, but where was Lucky Larry? He wasn’t at work that day.

I was in 5th grade at the book fair waiting in line to pay and I noticed the teacher stare at the tv crying me being 9 at the time I did not quite understand and then I saw the second plane hit and she just dropped to her knees and yelled o Christ no

This comment section is interesting. I've been in New York City my whole life. My mom was in the north tower under where the plane hit. But she's swapped from anger towards terrorists, to anger towards the government because the actions they took blew back onto the people around her. She always says freedom does not mean freedom without responsibility.

I totally get the initial attack commentary, but how do you neglect Benghazi?

Crazy to think I was 5 years old remember seeing it on tv I just don’t remember exactly where I was it’s also crazy to me to remember people binging scared and the severity of it and not knowing what that feeling is at 5 years old to now going on 28 and understanding way more then most people do like it’s just nutty as fuck that my entire generation seen the beginning and the end of it seeing it happen at 5 then binging like 13-14 watching Obama walk down that hallway to address the nation that we got him powerful shit to witness

I was in the 3rd grade. The teacher rolled in the tv stand and turned the TV on. The whole class saw the second plane hit. My first words were, "we're going to war!!!" My little 3rd grade self had no idea how true that would be.

I too was a senior, in home room. At lunch, my father, who was from NY, called me and told me both my aunts were still alive and had evacuated in time. Surreal days and weeks for us all.

In NJ there was hurricane swell. We surfed then wind came on shore. I got out of water and a buddy was listening to radio said a plane hit a tower. Got wetsuit off, went to buddies house. The news was on and we saw it was a commercial plane. And then saw the second plane hit live. At that time we knew it was an attack. I called my Dad who was retired ST2. He said plainly “This is war son”. Many of his team mates went back to active duty in the weeks following.
