🇺🇸 CHICKEN & THE EGG: / chickenandtheeggmia
Sometimes you just can’t beat a down-home southern breakfast. So I took my dad to have a massive 9am Southern breakfast at Chicken & The Egg in our hometown of Miami!
Chicken & The Egg is a gem in downtown Miami that’s all about American Southern cuisine. They serve things like chicken and waffles, Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, and more!

Inside, it’s a beautiful modern space. We’d be getting a mix of breakfast and lunch items. In the back, we met Nicki, who walked us through everything.
First, she started on the waffles for the chicken & waffles. The chicken marinates in a buttermilk brine before they batter it and deep-fry it. It’s a hugely popular dish there!
Next, she started on the Matador, which consists of a pork patty with scrambled eggs on a brioche bun with pepper jack cheese and housemade chipotle aioli. It’s another favorite in their menu. They only use cage-free eggs.
She also made a brisket sandwich with pickled onions, a chimichurri aioli, fried eggs, on a brioche bun. Then, she worked on the Holla Back, which is thick-cut French toast with whipped cream and strawberries.
We’d also be getting the Son of a Butcher, a Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and the tater tots with tons cheese, cheese sauce, and chives!
At our table, we started on teh Challah Back, which was very sweet because of the French toast and strawberries. It was really filling.
Next was the chicken and waffles. I loved the sweetness of th ewaffle with the sweet syrup and savory, crunchy chicken. It was too good!
Next, the loaded tater tots with bacon, cheese, and chives were excellent. They were nice and charred, with lots of complex textures.
The Matador was really nice, while my dad loved the Son of a Butcher. It was meaty and savory, and the fluffy bun and fluffy eggs were excellent. They were two of my new favorite breakfast sandwiches!
Our final dish was the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, which wasn’t super spicy but had a kick to it. It was really good!
