Did you know that Miami is one of the most influential Latin American hubs in the world? It’s home to diverse people from all over Latin America, so of course, Latin American cuisine is a staple here. Come with me as I eat 11am Latin American street food at the La Jama TV food truck!
I’d be eating everything from pan con bistec (steak sandwiches) to elote to fried cheese! Inside the truck, I met up with my friends Jason and Frankie, who jumped right into it.

The first order of business was toasting some Cuban bread and grilling some ribeye steak with some onions and mozzarella cheese. They put fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro aioli, fritas, and cotija cheese on the sandwich!
Then, they worked on the Smash Burger, which is a 100% beef burger on a toasted brioche bun. It’s called a smash burger because they smash the patty, making it really thin! They top it with cheddar cheese, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions., chipotle mayo, and cotija cheese.
Next were some fries and an elote bowl, which they take off the cob and add lemon, crema, tajin, sriracha powder, cilantro, and cotija cheese.
Then, Frankie started building their shrimp po’boy. First, he grilled the shrimp with some basil, oil, and vinegar. Then, he added them to the bun, added pico de gallo, cilantro aioli, pineapple, chipotle aioli, honey, cilantro, and cotija cheese!
Their fried cheese is cubed white cheese that they deep-fry until it’s golden brown. Then, they top it with guava sauce, cotija cheese, and cilantro.
He also made some cubed pineapple and added some basil mango lemonade, mango chamoy, cilantro, and tajin. Then, they added a straw coated in tamarind and tajin.
Then, it was time for Jason and I to eat! We started with the pan con bistec. I’ve grown up eating them. The bun is fluffy, the meat is tender, and there’s some crunchiness from the fritas and lettuce. It’s so creamy, and the ultimate Cuban steak sandwich!
The Nicaraguan queso frito had a nice crust on the outside and was smooth on the inside. I loved the guava sauce on the outside. Guava and cheese is always an amazing combination.
Next was the elote bowl, which was fresh and creamy. I loved the way the creaminess balanced out the spiciness. The smash burger was so big, the cheese was dripping out the side! It was one of my favorite cheeseburgers.
The shrimp po’boy was succulent and chunky, and went well with the basil aioli, pineapple, and fluffy bread. The spiced fruit cocktail was nice and refreshing. I loved the spices of the tajin.
Then, Frankie brought us some flan! It was so incredible. It was thick and dense and melted in my mouth! Everyone has their own recipe for flan. It’s so rich and decadent!
