We stayed in the Picpus area last time for a change and wasn’t disappointed, this is real Paris as we see it away from the tourist areas. A trip on the Metro can take you anywhere, no problem.

This place is a delight, you were inspired in your choice. As a kid, this was not a place I used to go... only to discover it thanks to an aunt living nearby. Now, it's the neighborhood I like losing my time in. You can see kids playing in small gardens created above the Métro tunnels, couples enjoying an ice-cream while walking away from the crowd and its rumble, cyclist pedaling their very own pace without fear of a triple-lane traffic coming their way. And the archtecture deserves a special attention, as this area is unique in its style. Great choice, bravo !

I have stayed often in Paris. Always on a budget. I enjoy what you call the Gare du Nord area. My favourite place to eat is a little cafe restaurant near Gare de l’Est. I like the international flavour . There is one area which reminds of living and working in West Africa. Yes it’s very urban and not touristy, but it’s fascinating. It’s an easy walk to the canal area. And of course metro to anywhere. By the way I’m 80 and will be back there this fall.

Very well done. My personal favorites are Montmartre, Saint-Germain, L’Îsle Saint Louis, Le Marais and Bastille. Paris just breathes history, creativity and art. Don’t forget the magnificent ‘Jardin des Plantes’ near Austerlitz either, with a stunning zoo that dates back to the 18th century. Thanks!

I have been to Paris a dozen times and have always enjoyed my time there. Three or four times, I have stayed in apartments - not hotels - within a block of the Filles du Calvaire Metro station. It is in the 11º, right across the street from the 3º. Another terrific place that I absolutely *LOVED*, and stayed for a full month, was within one block of the Marché d'Aligre - all for a very authentic experience, surrounded much more by locals than by tourists.

The first time i ever went to Paris i rented a Apartment near Saint Michel, best choice i ever made. You live like a Parisian, you have laundry in your place and its a totally different vibe than a hotel, i highly advise it if you can. Urban/international equals lots of Black (African) and Arabic people and there’s nothing wrong with that. I stayed in that area in 2018 and it’s quick and easy to go from that area to all of Paris. Major train stations that can take you other areas outside of Paris such as Versailles and Disneyland and the outlets (I forgot the name of the it). The people were helpful and friendlier than people I encountered in other parts of Paris and it’s affordable since everything in Paris is crazy expensive.

This was lovely and you put a lot of work into it! I lived in Paris 30 plus years ago and loved every part of it including the seedy parts because they were genuine and filled with real colourful characters and not just hipster retro. The Marais in fact was totally run down and the Place des Vosges was actually something of an insider secret. I returned a couple of years ago and confess to mixed feelings. It was incredibly crowded, you really can't experience any of the sights and landmarks anymore because of the milling masses everywhere. Personally I find Paris' gentrification has been brutal and the city has become something of a charicature of what others think it should be. I did notice and I quietly smiled as I did so that you carefully avoided mentioning any of the real hidden gems in most of the neighbourhoods you covered. Perhaps you are protecting them too! Anyway, thank you for the video. It took me back a ways down memory lane!

i always felt like that generally about paris... i'm 42 and i first went there when i was 15... i felt like Paris was a theme park full of tourists and i continued feeling that way... until we moved just outside it and i'd take the rera to visit my husband who worked near to Opera and we'd go have lunch together and at that moment i would see the real life of Parisians on their lunch break in the 2nd arrondissement OMG the luxury of that insider life... a ticket resto to any food you can imagine and what a selection! I then spent some time viewing flats in paris so i saw every part and wow, it was such an eye opener... we didn't buy inside paris but just outside and the real life of most parisians i think is on the banlieu not inside the city, which is something more for working lunch and tourists.

@@Leila2023_ similarly, from 2007 to 2019, we spent three weeks to one month in the city. We will start again this year (post-pandemic). Annually, we occupy the apartment of a friend on Ave des Gobelins. It’s a neighbourhood without the glitz. Though I liked the video because it took me to places we all know, Paris is so much more than the Eiffel Tour and Printemps. We’re spending the month of September 2022 in Paris - can’t wait.

We stayed in proper St-Germain in 2018, 3 days at the end of a 2-week work trip for me beginning in Berlin, totes exhausted & no idea what we were doing. I srsly couldn’t think of words in any language, even English. Thank goodness for a Parisienne old friend who walked & even drove us around for most of two days, but have to say the tiny pied a terre in St Germaine was excellent. Found on vrbo, no idea if it’s there any more. Lovely tiny hidden safe spot behind a massive gate. Yes we got into a tourist spot nearby for way over expensive drinks one time, but totally possible to walk out if you have a good plan. Found a lovely cafe for the end of a World Cup game just as we arrived, but could never find our way there again. Great eggs with mayo for dinner tho. We were mostly lost ;), (including in the Louvre where we lost each other (no wifi or cell, do not depend on those! but first I lost the restaurant bathroom) and sadly missed Musee D’Orsay entirely - tho around the corner! - due to day off & our schedule. Won’t happen next time! Top of list next trip. Thx Les Frenchies, you’re the best, looking forward to our next whirlwind trip to Paris! Going to see friends near Prague, but we have to go through Paris, I mean, “have tp”. Plus my husband agreed I can have two days in Disney, so there we are… yay for me! All that said, we had lots of time in Sainte-Chapelle, and I still need to go back. Life changing in interesting ways. Might be my favorite spot in the universe, or very near.

I just found your channel and what a great video. I have been to Paris a number of times. For 2 months in the 80's - a looong time ago as well as a few other times back then. In December I got the chance to return and absolutely fell back in love. So I've booked another trip for next month just for a week to stay in an apartment, use the metro, make much of my own food and check out neighborhoods. I am seriously considering making the move there in the next year or 2. Your video really gave me some great ideas of things to check out in the neighborhoods - and the vibe of each. I have always stayed in the 6th, so that's where I am this time, but I look forward to maybe spending each day in one of your new suggestions. Thanks again and I'll be having a look at all your other videos now! : )

I have stayed in the 9th, Opera area and it was great. Close to a lot of things. Then stayed in the 14th on Blvd Raspail. Another great area. Raspail crosses the 4th, 6th, and 14th arrondissments. Then last trip was in the 14th in the Montparnasse area, very close to the station. A great area for transportation and access to pretty much all of Paris with the Metros and trains. I stayed in another area my first trip but that was with a tour, I knew nothing about the city so can't speak to how great it was. Like Les Frechies says, there is something in almost all areas of the city and the transportation is so good, you can get around easily and quickly for all parts of the city. Anyone who hasn't been to Paris needs to go. MY favorite city. I do know a couple of people that hate it but I stopped speaking to them years ago. LOL
