+Darkshark Lp try getting a car never sold in Europe let alone outside of Australia or New Zealand through TÜV, my Australian built Ford/Tickford Falcon XR6 has their heads scratching as to what to do atm, it not quite and Oldtimer yet, and if I converted from the 4.0 Liter High Output inline 6 to the 5.0 ltr V8 out of the Mustang that was an option for my car brand new, it would pass the HÜ..... but do I really want to go slower?

As someone who was stupid enough to buy a decent condition 2000 CL600 and sell it for parts 5 months later when the repair bill came (worth way more than the car) i can tell you, getting a premium brand V12 for 6k is the worst you can ever think about doing

Not to mention, there are v6 out there that can out perform these and V8s that will leave them in their dust. Suib-400HP for a V12 is a bit disappointing. Still, I'd love to own one of those old ESeries Jags.

Tbh the 60's ones with 3.9 litres rather than the v12 were just as quick and probably cost around the £50k mark. The less beautiful hence less desirable v12 models needing some work are about half that - mainly because the v12 is considered a nightmare to maintain.

the only v12s ive driven, are the Rolls Royce Ghost extended wheel base, the base Ghost, the Phantom, BMW 850csi, BMW 750i, and the BMW760Li and if I could afford it my favorite one as far as performance and luxury would be the fully loaded Ghost extended wheel base, Fantastic car! I loved it!, also 1 of the most notorious things about all of those cars was that they are so smooth that you can barely feel they are tuned on! and they have a quiet interior.

I got a very cool blast in a 750iL several years ago. It was practically given to the guy by someone who was chauffeur driven around in it because they were expensive to run in the UK. Cambridge to Oxford netted 19mpg but the v12 was sublime and the 5 speed semi-auto was great for overtaking 3 cars in front in a row (hitting well over 100mph). I wasn't driving btw. An immaculate LWB is a good alternative to a Bentley Arnage if your budget doesn't stretch beyond 10k.

I, too, would go for the BMW 850i - it looks great, sounds great, and think is one of the best V12s for the money in your video compilation. However, I must admit that the Mercedes-Benz CL600 V12 sounds AMAZING! It really reminds of the old F1 V12 engine sounds. Unfortunately, however, I do believe they are notoriously expensive and now somewhat unreliable (this is what I have read and heard, not personally experienced, (un?)fortunately!)

My XJS has the 5.3 12 cyl. rather than the 6.0. They didn't start using the 6.0 until '92. And the XJS was launched in '75 not '82. The price also varies quite a bit depending on features like the convertable option but i'd say you hit a solid average.

Love the car, but worst mechanic money pit engines, all…prolly most scrapped expensive to build in first place, like a Mercedes engine today…lots of bells to scream and whistle to break down..😂scrapped more than a few, major issues but sound great 1 in 100 engine built, imo ❤❤

@@jakobquick6875I haven’t had too bad of engine problems besides small leaks and bad hoses typical for the age. It’s just a bit underpowered for the sheer size - only 260 HP in the US spec and the motor takes 11 quarts of oil. My problem is mainly the electronics and body. Water leaks, buggy dash & console controls, rust spots around the rear wheel wells... the luxury is fleeting for sure.

my uncle bought a used 850 V12 a few years ago, it was about $15k. All I remember is that he had it for about a month before it broke down. It needed $10k in repairs so he just scrapped it. Don't remember what broke on it. But it was bad.
@craigmak

Some one sold the car because it was already broken obviously. This story has zero relevance to the car's reliability although I am sure it is not that great.
@valgehiir
@valgehiir 7 жыл бұрын
If you tell fairy tails, then tell them better, a 10k repair cost details is something you never forget. There is nothing on 850i that can run you 10k in repairs, unless you ruin the engine or transmission by running them dry. The ESD shocks will go, but by now they are all gone on pretty much all 850i and replaced to regular Bilsteins. The fairy tales of v12 horrors are simply fairy tales, repeated over and over by children wishing to sound smart.

@VisioRacer If I understand well, the BMW 750i has the best fuel economy among V12 cars? (I'm French and I'm not sure to have understood). I got a BMW 535i V8 e39 and even it is not a small engine for Europe, I think it is quite economic. Therefore, that would mean that BMW has the most economic engines, is it right according to you ?

THE Jaguar V12 engine was a masterpiece & was the worlds most common V12 until recently. Being aluminium it was also lighter than most iron block V8`s & even some V6`s. In the UK you can get a road legal Jaguar V12 for well under £5000. Around 300bhp in standard tune (producing maximum power & torque at low revs, so no need to rev the nuts out of it), 500-550bhp if you bore it to 7.0 & blueprint it (in N/A form), over 700bhp if you use forced induction, resulting in 200mph performance in the mid 80`s in cars such as the Lister Lemans (a bespoke & heavily modified roadgoing XJS).

$9000 USD for a car is not much at all. I meant they're old and used, but they're still V12s, and a V12 is not something you see very often

You are missing my point guys.. Of course there are some appealing cars in terms of price, but I bet that a V12 in good condition will be higher priced than you show on the list (not criticizing) and I just think that some people forgot about running costs and maintenance and that's where you are going to spend the most. And no, it's not cheap :)

Friend, the Xjv12 is famous for it's warped heads and cracked cylinder walls. it's all thanks to it's rather unique (for a modern era V12) full floating pistons. i've been in a few...the extra ponies earned from the 12 are not exactly adding anything to that british land yacht. it's underpowered eitherway. (for a car that was over 1500kgs, it never had more than 250hp of it's sixes and 320 of it's twelves (and that would be the unicorn 6.0 or the TWR models, and the 12 was only marginally faster, due to the boat anchor it was) If anything i'd either swap one to a better straight six (RB25, 1JZ....) OR go for the 4.0 six, with a stickshift fitted from factory. those dont go for 9K.

They are not made for peak power, but for linear torque throughout the rev range and smoothness. Doesn't that coin balanced on its edge on that BMW V12 mean anything to you? These engines accelerate almost the same at low revs as they do at the high revs.

Just like others mentioned, The E38 was manufactured from 1994-2001, never had a single one sold with the m70 engine which you copy pasted the details for. E38 750 had the M73 engine which is 5.4l and 326HP 490Nm does the 0-62 in 6.6 but man how smooth it does it. A decent one is starting in the £3k mark. And expect a single digit MPG if you push it in sport mode.

I just came when i heard the W220 with the exhaust mod to sound like a F1 car. goodness me, that will be a nice sound to hear and to wake the whole neighborhood sadly any mods you do in my country needs to be inspected and that exhaust will fail the inspection as it a noise polluter. most of the cars shown here will be scrap metal since the typical lifespan of the car is only 10 year due to the piece of paper called the Certificate of Entitlement COE which allows you to drive the car on the road for 10 year before you need to renew. Once you renew the COE, the cost of running the car goes up

If you want a cheap AND fast V12 just go for a S600 or CL600 Biturbo. They don't cost mutch more than the N/A ones and with 500ps and 800nm they are quite fast. You can also realy easy bring them to about 600ps and 1.000 - 1.200nm. And if you got some spare bucks you cold also go for the newer W221.
