With ADHD, I found starting small goals first helps. Focusing on one thing at a time is a must, otherwise I get overwhelmed and won’t do them.

My goals are to start hormones, find a new job that better suits me and continue walking a lot and eating better, along with still finding time to enjoy my hobbies. I hope those are all realistic...they certainly feel achievable to me!

❤ My goals are to completely start over with everything like I am 18 again except I'm in my 30s with 4 kids and no family or any social support of any kind.... So it's a bit much and this is not super helpful to me right now. but it's always nice to hear Dr Elliot's lovely voice. Happy new year to all ❤

Happy New Year! I agree New Year's resolutions don't always work. I have tried for years but after a few weeks just forgot them. This year I want to be accountable for my actions so I have a simple journal to track some daily habits like walking, reading, what I eat/drink and end of each month I will see how I went.

I have always been a list maker. As the Personal Assistant to a CEO whose brain went 1,000 miles per hour in 20 different directions I found making lists for him changed his whole work life. ❤

I actually am doing the opposite of your first point. I used to set smart goals and fail at them and feel like a failure. Instead, for 2025, I've set intentions: Care for my body and mind, move towards my professional aspirations, be social, and be kind to myself.

I like to set systems rather than goals for every area. My primary focuses for the next couple months are to refine my financial system and to practice yoga every day (even if it’s only 5min).

I've been writing stuff down for years. I keep notes on many things. There are those rare times when I think of something and say "I need to write that down" then get sidetracked.

My goals are to pass my alevel mocks, create a healthy work life balance by spending more time with friends, family and to exercise more for 30 mins after college , finally to read more (I have like 7 booka I'm currently reading someone of which I started this time last year )

Last year I had a goal of losing 10% of my body as indicated by my doctor. At the end of the year I was close, but while I was told lose 10% of your body weight and things will improve some areas in my health it didn’t. So it’s more important now, I have the same goal this year, with the why, the how and what reevaluated. One paper I read (I can remember the reference) said you have a 5% higher chance of achieving new years goals then at any other time of the year. So I’m banking on that 5% to help me through.

2025 will be the year that I'll hopefully join med school so it's great that I came across your channel 'cause you set a good example for successful gay doctors!

My New Year’s resolution trick is to make sure not to word things in any way that I could have already failed it by the end of January. If I say “floss my teeth every night” and I’m tired on January 1st because I was out late celebrating the night before and I forget, I’ve already failed my resolution. So instead I say “floss my teeth this year”, planning to do it in the evening, and tracking the nights I do it. My goal is still specific and measurable so I can still know if I’m meeting it or not, but at no point do I feel “well I already failed so I might as well just give up and try again next year” (or next month or next quarter, whatever) I saw Anderson Cooper on the NYE special this year make a resolution not to drink and then have a glass of champagne at midnight to celebrate. Like girl if you fail in the first minute then every time it gets hard your brain will tell you to just forget about it because you already screwed it up

❤Thanks for this video. Maybe writing down the “why” next to the items I always skip over in my to-do list will finally help me do them 🤭

My goal is a big one which will take most of the year to achieve, but I have broken it down into tasks. I'm going to walk and do one weekly shop on my own feet before Dec 2025. I'm a wheelchair user because of chronic illness not disability. Sounds very simple but will be a huge win for me. So first 12 weeks is to walk up and down my driveway 3 times in one go... its not very long, possible about 30 mts

Nice advice, and props on the barnet, looking good. On to do lists, my stress response and counselling skills lecturers both recently told me to stop with to do lists for a while. They think they make me pressure myself and be too hard on myself, but like you I love them...I am confusion.

If anyone found reading Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck helpful - I'd recommend 4000 Weeks and The Antidote by Oliver Burkeman! They again talk about the benefits of facing your own mortality and also introduce the stoic way of thinking. Theyve really changed how i deal with life in a positive way
