I set the temp offset on mine. I'll say this to anyone who decides to do it on the bullseye. Take your time, let it settle for at least 30 minutes after each adjustment. Check and double check. If you don't do that you can easily make it worse. I work with PID controlled air heaters so I knew what to look for.

Thanks for a good video with honest temps. I got rid of a Weber Smoke Fire because it was up to 50° off. They should not lie. They should be able to get within 5-10°. 50° can make a very large difference on a long cook like a brisket or pork butt. We are talking about eating at dinner time vs bed time.

I bought a beta version of the Bullseye a few years ago which basically was the addition of the smart controller. I realized that the louvered vents clogged easily and didn’t allow the grill to breathe properly. I installed an old vent off of a charcoal grill directly on top of the lid. Temp control is much much better. BTW, a Weber kettle lid also fits and works better than the stock lid, just don’t have the hinges.

I've had a Bullseye for a while. Yup, it runs hot out of the box. But it's literally 15 seconds to adjust the offset on the console, and you'll be running very close to your desired temp in no time. The consensus is around +15 to +17 on the offset. Couldn't be easier or simpler. Now, all my cooks are coming out on time, and it's incredibly versatile as you've pointed out. I'm batch cooking steak, chicken, brisket, beef ribs, etc multiple times a week and it's been smooth sailing since I made the offset adjustment.

The first one would only heat up to 100 degrees, the second one needed a new controller and now it’s 50 degrees off? I’ll pass, my offset stick burner is 25 years old and has never had a problem. It even works when the power is out…

I've had the RecTec Bull for a year now. It's amazing, but I've been using my Weber kettle for any searing or higher temp cooking. Just takes too long to heat that big thing up. Always thought the Bullseye would be the perfect companion for it, but I've held off after hearing about some of the problems people are having. This morning I said screw it, I gotta have one.

According to Recteq they probe used a calculation for inside grill temp so it isn’t going to be accurate to a secondary probe. You’re able to dial it in by adjusting the offset and feed rate but if you learn the grill on how it is it’s perfect. Like I do my steaks on LO now then turn to riot for searing. I’ve been ok with it! Like you said.

Just to let you know, there are "hacks" where people have used their 18 volt power tool battery to run their grill for an entire cook. Don't ask me the details but I'm sure there are videos on here of people showing how to do it. One guy specifically said he ran his for a 14 hour cook on his 18 volt Makita battery and still had 60% battery left.

What good timing. I've been circling the idea of a pellet grill for a long time. The thing is I don't particularly care for the smoking function because I have a dedicated smoker. I want something akin to a gasser thats simple start & good to go for ease. Was looking at this grill the other day & it really fit the bill. Price point wise it also could serve as an inroads into pellet cooking which I've never dabbled in. Thanks for showing it. Also for sharing your issues as well as the solutions. Glad to hear it all worked out. I was about to bite on another pellet grill until I read their support was absolute trash. Hearing Rectec is response & willing to resolve issues is good to hear. I drilled a 1/4" hole to accept a 1/4" x 3" eye bolt that was opened up to act as a hook. 2 holes about 3/8" wide were placed on each side (of the bolt) parallel to the firebox. The small drip bucket came from the paint dept. at Home Depot for about $3.00. I used a wing nut on top, and a nut/washer on the bottom of the eyebolt to lock it in place. Was height adjusted to hang about 1/2" below the firebox. There is a raised lip around the firebox, stay outside of that lip. Not a perfect solution, but better than nothing. So it has been a very long time now so I am curious, how's it doing? My old Sam's Club pellet grill (Even Embers) I have had for 3 years and this last year it's a bit fiddly to work with. I figure its dying out. Thankfully it is very heavy steel so likely will be repurposed as a charcoal grill and attach an offset smoker box on the old pellet hopper side.

It’s starting to give me issues mainly inconsistent temperatures. Other owners are starting to get rust holes making the grill useless. I haven’t had that happen yet.

Was originally going to get the 590 but now am leaning more towards this. Do you ever get any embers coming out the exhaust vents? Seems like without the drip pan more embers are flying around inside. Would you be worried with this on a wood porch?

I’ve never seen any embers make it out. Mine has been on my deck for over a year with no issues.

I know these are two different grills but would you recommend a bullseye over a black stone? I currently have a 700 Bull. It would be used for searing mostly.

For me personally yes I would prefer the Bullseye over the Blackstone. I actually have a Blackstone, but do not use it in videos.

It is a shitty grill! Mine has never held a constant temperature and finally melted down after the fire traveled from the fire pot to the hopper. Buy something else! Also, our BFG2500 has had issues since we bought it. Terrible quality! The service department will mail all of the parts you need. Most of the time, they’re the wrong parts but hey! They’re answering the phone! Their grills just suck!
