I guess there are lot of you who are new to flowerhorns. Flowerhorns are solitary fish. Like bettas. He can't have tank mates b/c they would fight to death or get injured all of the time. There are some people who have successfully kept flowerhorns with other fish, but that's not common. The tank is empty on purpose. My flowerhorn is a very aggressive one. Every flowerhorn's temperament is different. I had to remove everything from the tank, b/c he injured himself a few times already. Lots of flowerhorns injured themselves from trying to move any gravel, rocks, or decorations. They want to move everything out of the way. He is happy b/c it is empty. Any plants would get uprooted and chewed up. This tank is not small. This is 50 gallon with 7 gallon overhead sump. He hasn't shown any signs that would indicate that he needs a bigger tank. If he does show signs, I'll be getting bigger tank.

This is my favorite of all your flowerhorn videos. How wonderous they are. I really enjoy pets of all types but animals that surprise you are amazing. You wouldn't expect a fish like him to be so intelligent and have such a range of emotion and the capacity to express affection and love. I'm completely "hooked" to use a fishing metaphor. I brought my new baby flowerhorn into my home today. A little baby about 2.5 inches. Parents are full of pinks and golds. Don't know if boy or girl yet but among the largest of the siblings. Looking forward to our adventure together. I hope you won't mind questions now and then. Thank you for showing us all what a remarkable fish they are! Its a gift I am grateful for.

This is such a good example of why flowerhorns are such amazing pets. Many people criticize them for being "Man-Made". Despite the criticisms of certain people, they are super intelligent and beautiful. Yes, they aren't as indestructible as they're wild ancestors, but they don't need to be.

Might be a dumb question to ask but I’m still going to ask it anyway lol. Do flowerhorns get “bored” in their tanks?

@FootheFlowerhorn6 жыл бұрын
MrLordFiren I don't know how he feels, but I know the body language and the overall condition of my fish. It's hard to explain, it's something that comes with many years of keeping fish. If the tank is too small for him, he'll show signs like: freaking out often without apparent reason, gets spooked easily, restlessness, or gets sick easily.

@TheDemigod0076 жыл бұрын
Noob question. My dad bought a flowerhorn years ago (I was around 16, now I'm 29). It lived for roughly 3 years before it turned sideways with a bloated stomach and eventually died. It grew more than 40cm (15+ inches for the sake of western people). How long is their usual lifespan in a basic aquarium set? Just the air filtering and pump system.
