Another huge reason; financial and energy independence if you buy your land cash dig your own shallow well and run everything on solar. Little to no government regulations compared to the crowded cities. I bought 5 acres in the wilderness almost by accident. Someone had some dirt cheap land they wanted to get rid of so I bought it. A friend told me the water table was quite high in the area so almost like a joke I hired a few people who dug me a shallow well and found lots of water at 25 feet! After building some basic accommodation and experimenting with some organic farming, I was hooked! Planning to build a rustic, luxury cabin and rent it out on airbnb. Once the farm starts producing income I want to buy another 100 acres as land is quite cheap in my location. I want to farm pine long term and pass the land on God willing to my future generations. As you say..they are not making any more of it!

Along the lines of your bug out comment, We have paid off our land and our RV, so worst comes to worse, we can never be homeless! You nailed it. We bought a farm 25 years ago. We sold the home site recently and kept the land. We didn't lose money on the initial purchase and we still collect rent on the land. We also have 80 acres of hunting land that I built a small cabin on. I'm hoping to keep it in the family for years to come. Great video.

I'm an 18 year old UK citizen, and having experienced the past year (and probably at least another year to come) of tyranny from the UK government amid Covid, I've decided that when I can in future years, I'm moving to the US and buying my own land. In the UK, there's no way anyone in my generation will ever be able to afford property in the UK, and nobody I know seems to think of it as something important. I like the idea of buying land. In the north east it can be quite expensive (to buy and pay tax on) and I wouldn’t want to buy something too far from where I live. I’ll have to save up, but it is a longer term goal of mine. Were you worried about hidden contamination? I know this may be rare, but I’ve heard horror stories about land that has been used for illegal dumping in the past. Surface debris can be removed, but if there is soil contamination the remediation cost on that can be huge. If I buy a few acres of wild land I may not be able to totally survey all of it in detail. I presume one tries to mandate disclosure of any issues on the contract. Did you do any soil testing?

​@@Hopper830 Every person is different and it depends on where you are going in Colorado and what you are doing. If you're going to Denver or somewhere around the mile elevation, you might not feel the elevation too bad and you'll likely adjust in a couple of days. But if you're going to a ski resort at 9,500'+, most people will feel that immediately and you likely won't get adjusted unless you're here for a longer trip. Being in shape definitely helps. Regardless of what physical shape you are in, take it slow the first day or two to acclimate and be sure to drink tons of water!

I wish that was the case now! Our land was still reasonable at around $1,000 per acre. Remote areas in the Colorado mountains sells for $3,000-$5,000/acre. And if there is any water on the property, $5,000+/acre, and that would be a deal! If you're by a town or ski area, forget it, it's $50,000-$100,000/acre. Thanks for watching!

Well, the price of the land increases as the human population increases. But, at some point human population is going to decrease for various reasons . So, at that time the bubble will burst and the price of the land will be back to 500 an acre.

I am not in the real estate business and can only go off of what I have seen. I've noticed that anything with water always retains it's value no matter what the economy is doing. Right now those are hands down the most expensive lots. I've seen lots that are 1/4 acre or less, on a river in Colorado going for $500k. It is insane! I can’t say I agree with full blown private Land ownership. After spending 11 years in the workforce (both Minneapolis And Golden, CO) So many of the working class sleep in their cars. How this makes sense is beyond me & one might ask what was given up in benefit of these “cities” Services need to be paid for. For that I can’t accept private land ownership For no service is required to hold the flora of the fauna. Bout as magical as walking downtown Denver

Having a hard time finding a lot that allows camping. Most we've found require building a physical structure or leaving vacant. Any suggestions on how to search? We're in AZ. Thx!!

Pretty much all HOA's will not allow camping. If they do, it will be a small amount of days. So you're going to have to find a non-HOA property. Realtor.com allows you to search for properties that don't have an HOA. I would also recommend researching and looking for the counties that allow camping. In my experience, it's a PITA to find out that info. Your best bet would probably be to call the county you're looking at buying in, and asking that county official what their regulations are. Then have that county official guide you to where you can find the regulation in writing. Most of the time the literature on the regulations is on the county's website. I hope that helps. Yes you can have a well in that area. The area is Southern Colorado. It's nice that our land is wooded. It definitely helps cut down on the wind. The mountains are almost always windy, so land with lots of trees is a must in my opinion. Thanks for watching Jason!

We're in Southern Colorado and it's definitely pretty dry here. Most areas where there are heavy Pinyon trees will have a dryer climate then forest with Ponderosa's, Doug Fir, & Aspens. So far we really enjoy it and our 35 acres was a reasonable price. Thanks for watching!

I have a question the land we're looking to buy says it has 150' of road frontage but if you you measure across the front between the survey pins on the gravel road it is 492.5 ' wouldn't that be the frontage? I even talked to the person who did the subdivision 10 yes aha and was told there is no property with that small amount of frontage. Any help would be good.

Huh, that doesn't make any sense. One thing we noticed while looking at land is that a lot of the listings have inaccurate and/or missing information. Have you seen the recorded plat for the property? I would recommend hunting that down and checking it out. Sometimes you can find those through the counties website or if you're working with a realtor, they may have access to that. I have the OnX Hunt app which shows property boundaries. When we were looking at land, I would use OnX to get an idea of what the boundaries of the property were. I hope that helps. Have fun looking for land and thanks for watching!

@@ColoradoCamperman yes we got the plat and it is almost 500' across the front of the property. We ended up buying the land. The realtor couldn't read it so thats why the 150' of frontage. He didn't even know where the boundary pins were. I found them and showed him so between us and the town clerk girl we ended up getting all the info. I needed. If I ever need another job I guess I could be a realtor lol. Just got your message a few minutes ago but it says 2 months ago. Thats weird. Thanks for the info anyway.

@@ColoradoCamperman the neglect is just rolled into the fact that no one goes there to see that someone is trespassing in the first place. if it were just "neglect", then you could take "ownership" of some land that is never cleared or altered in any way even if the "owner" does go there and trespasses you, which is not the case. and even if some standard of neglect were required, it still wouldn't mean we can own land if we still have to pay property tax. time to remove govt and their masters from earth.
