One of the benefits that doesn't get talked about a lot, but we were discussing the other day, is the mental benefit of making yourself do something that you really don't want to do. I think there is great carry over to living life in getting better at doing uncomfortable things.

When it's not your choice to be in the cold it's gonna suck and you're probably gonna complain. If you seek the cold willingly it will not bother you. Pro-tip The dread + the first 5 seconds of a cold shower are really the only unpleasant parts. After that, there is a VERY significant falloff of unpleasantness. How to use this to your advantage? Just tell yourself that you are going in for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, you decide whether you want to continue the cold shower or not. This will reduce your pre-shower dread drastically (and the dread is responsible for most of the unpleasantness in my opinion). If you can reduce the dread and get through the first 5 seconds, most likely, you won't really even mind the rest of the shower. It's a lot like the mantra, "Just get to the gym." Once you're at the gym, working out is hardly even an event, let alone an inconvenience. Same goes for the shower. You have pre-shower dread... 5 seconds of cold-shock... and the rest is just automatic. It's like jumping into a pool. You feel the dread/angst before you jump in. You feel the cold shock when you enter. By the time you come up for air, the seal is broken, and there's no more unpleasantness involved.

Maybe not as accessible as a cold shower, but I noticed a number of these benefits while working once a week in a frozen food department of a large supermarket - so you don't necessarily have to get wet ;-). I was in good physical shape at the time anyway, but the stand out benefit for me was the boost to the immune system - for the 3 years I was working there I was almost bullet proof. 2 months after leaving, I came down with the flu.

Funny how this video was sent to me by a family member who said it reminded them of me. I have been taking cold showers for a couple years, and it’s interesting how much I reject hot water now. It also exacerbated my dislike of hot things in general, drinks, weather, food, etc. I really do thrive in a cold environment much more than a warm one, and it seems I’m the odd one out in my family lol. Edit: I also wanted to add that I hype myself up to take a cold shower by making myself sweat via dancing, which makes the shower a million times more enjoyable. It’s also amazing to take a cold shower after being in the humid outside during the summer.

I used to do cold showers and it felt pretty great (especially during the summer time) but then I dated this woman and during our honey moon phase, we took a lot of showers together and she used burning hot water to shower so it got me used to the feeling of my pores opening up and my skin being less tense afterwards. So I started showing with hot water and have been doing so for the last few years. Yesterday, I decided to turn the water colder and colder as I showered because I was sweating and gross from working in the sun all day. It made me miss showering in cold water and it’s funny to see this video the following morning. I’ll definitely be taking cold showers again. You feel so refreshed afterwards. Warm showers make me feel lazy but cold showers make me feel so active and my muscles feel nice after a good workout.

I started taking cold showers last summer. I live in Florida so adapting to that cold water in the hottest time of year wasn't hard at all. The challenge is continuing to take cold showers in winter, but I typically start off with lukewarm and gradually work my way down. A hybrid shower is the way to go unless you enjoy having clogged pores. The steam from the heat opens up your pores which allows for all the dirt and oils in your skin to come out. This is how you avoid getting pimples and blackheads. So I first run the shower for a minute to get it steaming. So that the pores open up. Then I turn the water to warm and begin washing. Finally I rinse off and then stand under the cold water for about 2 or 3 minutes.

Youngboy has truly changed my whole entire life. I was first a clueless, senseless individual, until YB . He took me under his wing and guided me through his delightful path. I have since then changed into a charming handsome man. I wish all other non-YB listeners will at last find this path as it will lead to the whole world being in harmony and peace at last. No single individual outshining others such as Kentrell has been graced to us since the beginning of time. When miracles like James Johnson III touch down to our planet, the clouds clear and the birds start chirping. I wouldnt be so surprised if YB is the reason we are able to breathe, eat, and hear everyday. When YB is played upon the ears of one, they come at peace, being able to outmaneuver and look down on others. If one is not fond of YB, you can take a observation out of the others, they are sad, unjoyful, and melancholy. They do not understand that would take a bullet for us, just as we would for him. It is truly enraging today that these who disrespect Youngboy are continuously allowed to withhold opinions today. But in the end, thank you YB for your wonderful blessing you decide to share THE LAST SLIMETO with us on Aug 5 at exactly 12:00 AM EST. It will be celebrated from today, everyday forward. hey, to all professionals/people who know how and why: should I take cold showers after working out? I've heard that both cold and hot showers help with gains but truly, which one is best for it?
@jonatanolsen372 жыл бұрын
A cold shower will decrease inflammation, wich is both good and bad. If you had a tough workout, some inflammation is beneficial. But if you need to perform again tomorrow, for example another workout, you may want to decrease inflammation.
@BlankVsudo2 жыл бұрын
You can do both, but the cold one will give you the refresh feeling

everytime I step into the shower I look at the showerhead and remember what David Goggins said once. DREAMS DIE IN THE COLD WATER. All my anxiousness about life disappear as soon as the cold water hits my face and I concentrate on being there and breathing controlled. Its like a voice in my head to do what I hate to do and my confidence boost is wild afterwards

It also helps to your skin, regular and hot showers make it dry, while cold showers keep it moist, and if yoh have atopic skin will be the greatest improvement AND will help on saving since yoh don't have to use so much cream after a shower

Was looking for a more realistic reaction such as this
@jakebulette64852 жыл бұрын
@@thereforeayam honestly I think the only reason ppl feel more “alert” is because they’re freezing. Same with pain. Stabbing yourself with a paper clip in the morning can wake you up, but only because it’s an involuntary reaction that distracts you from your thoughts. Taking cold showers will leave you feeling cold and craving a blanket unless you live in Arizona. Just that you’re distracted from your thoughts doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be more productive that way, if you can’t even focus on anything besides the cold/pain End of the day: if you’re already in a cold environment, cold showers will lower your blood temperature further and make you miserable. This “alert” B.S. is only a temporary feeling as a result of involuntary discomfort. You can get the same feeling by stabbing yourself, running, doing 50 push ups, or slapping yourself in the face. Personally I prefer exercise. I get the same rush without feeling debilitatingly cold in an already freezing apartment

"submerged in cold water" is even more effective, as the "shock" is even greater. Do not start crazy, but if you have access to a pool outside, start in summer and just do not stop until winter to go into the pool for a few minutes, it even feels not "that cold" after some time. One side effect is, that you feel warm/hot during night and have to remove the blankets. Even if you are outside (in winter) you need less clothing to stay warm.
@stevefaure4152 жыл бұрын
Eh, there's a lot of hokus-pokus stuff going on here. "Mental toughness"? That's a pretty subjective benefit. Is a rush of noradrenaline everyday necessarily a healthy habit? There are a lot of things that similarly will wake you up, increase your heart rate, and get you going in the morning that are ultimately bad for your body. I feel like there's a definite weightlifter mentality here of "it's unpleasant so it must be good for you". Who knows though. It is nice when you're done with it, give you that.

Key phrase: in the morning. I have lived in Colombia for a year and have been taking cold showers since I got here. It absolutely sucks to take a cold shower at the end of the day. All it does is make me uncomfortable for ten minutes. I literally have to hype myself up with RATM to take a shower in the afternoon lol it's the worse. However, a cold shower in the morning definitely wakes you up and gives you a boost

Im at the point now where I wish the water would get colder, (its summer atm) I can't wait until winter because that's gonna be the real test. Its gonna take serious discipline and willpower to take a cold shower in the winter when you might feel chilled and want to take a hot shower.

I take cold showers in the dark. I do it for at least 15 minutes. It defeats fear. Used to be afraid of bugs. Now I can pick them up. Use to be afraid of heights. Now I can jump 2 stories off a big house no hesitation. Used to be insecure, now I don't care what others think. That's just a few benefits. I've been taking cold showers everyday at least once at most three. That's how I know if your wondering. It's worth it but don't over do it.
