From my experiences with cold showers, number 7 is the most important here. Especially when you first start out, every fibre of your body will be screaming at you “DONT DO THIS”. The more you think about it, the more chance you’ll talk yourself out of it. JUST DO IT!! I started out taking the advice of number 1 but found it just prolonged the anticipation of the misery that was to come, for me I quickly realised the best way was to just go straight to cold, starting with the head and face. It took me about three weeks to gain total control of my breathing, before that there was lots of shouting and swearing lol. Start today and in four weeks from now you will be so glad you did. It’s great for developing stronger discipline too. DO IT!

Did you know Mohammad is your God? Allah is your only Intercessor: Allah it is He Who has created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them in six Days. Then He Istawa (rose over) the Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). You (mankind) have none, besides Him, as a Wali (protector or helper etc.) OR AN INTERCESSOR. Will you not then remember (or be admonished)? S. 32:4 Lo! your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then He established Himself upon the Throne, directing all things. THERE IS NO INTERCESSOR (WITH HIM) save after His permission. That is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Oh, will ye not remind? S. 10:3 But Mohammad is also your Intercessor: When I see Him, I will fall down in prostration before Him, and will remain in prostration as long as He will, and then He will say, ‘RAISE YOUR HEAD, O MUHAMMAD, AND SPEAK, FOR YOU WILL BE LISTENED TO, AND INTERCEDE, FOR YOUR INTERCESSION WILL BE ACCEPTED, AND ASK, FOR YOUR REQUEST WILL BE GRANTED.’ (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 97, Number 532 (O Allah, I ask of You and I turn my face towards You BY VIRTUE OF THE INTERCESSION OF MUHAMMAD THE PROPHET OF MERCY. O MUHAMMAD, I have turned to my Lord BY VIRTUE OF YOUR INTERCESSION concerning this need of mine, so that it may be met. O Allah, accept HIS INTERCESSION concerning me)”. The Chapters Of Establishing The Prayer And The Sunnah Regarding Them, Chapter 189. What Was Narrated Concerning Prayer At Times Of Need, pp. 329-330 If you are wondering how this makes Allah a Mushrik and a Kafir, the answer is simple: By accepting Muhammad’s Intercession Allah is actually encouraging his followers to turn to a Creature for Salvation, thereby violating his very own instructions as found in both the Quran and specific ahadith. In other words, Allah is actually encouraging and promoting shirk! Place your faith in the real God Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you will not perish. Have a good day.

Thank you for the reference to Lake Michigan, Dr. Berg. I'm a fifteen-year veteran cold plunger from Chicago. To this day, I remember my first cold winter shower being almost traumatic at the onset, but now, I don't bat an eyelash before my morning ritual. We have several groups here in Chicago, polar bears, who meet and oftentimes cut through the ice and wade into the icy water for the thrill of the marvelous feeling afterward. Being an endorphin junkie, I take two or three cold rinses a day to reset the lethargy that sets in following a long day of work. I cannot identify the benefits, having practiced this ritual for over a decade, yet I do know that I haven't had as much as a cold since I began. Anecdotally, having tested positive for Covid twice in the past year, I'm happy to say that I never suffered a sniffle, cough, or any of the other symptoms of the infection. I highly recommend cold water showering to everyone. Buck up, step in, enjoy, repeat!

At this point some 20 years after learning about it I can’t remember my sources, but I do remember it being stressed not to run the cold water on your head. Your video doesn’t mention it either way, but almost all of the accompanying videos of people showering are exhibiting this practice. Not a good idea. I also remembering the importance of ending on the cold shower, Not a warm one. Indeed the sublime warm feeling you feel inside after a cold shower is heightened if you end with the cold water. Lastly, it becomes extremely easy after only a week of daily practice. I think this is worth mentioning to motivate people.

What really helped me to get into this wonderful habit and be consistent over time was meditation with its slow breathing technique I could more easily concentrate and get past that uncomfortable threshold. Now I stay in 2 to 4 minutes and when I get out I don't dry up straight away but I wait 5 extra minutes, more or less, before starting to remove that water excess. Biggest improvement I have noticed? No need to heat your house before taking cold showers. If the water temperature is e.g. 10 degress C in winter (=50 Fahrenheits), and once you get out of the shower, you feel warm, because the environment around you is warm enough without excess heating. 20 degrees C (68 F) in your house is enough to feel warm. Once you turn off the cold water tap, you will start to feal warm, just try it! After a couple of months of cold showering you will be able to stay out of doors in winter wearing just a T-shirt without feeling cold.

You don't have to! Just end your normal hot shower with all cold water for 2 minutes. Start with just 5 seconds and add 5 seconds each day, easy peasy. I am thinking about buying a hot tub because I like sitting in warm water. But now, I also look forward to getting into an ice bath every day!

There was a point I was taking cold showers everyday for like a week or two and then I stopped. I need to get back into it for sure. Because I definitely need it for inflammation, better sleep and cognitive functions. The best thing about cold showers is you can dry yourself really fast and easy.

I remember taking cold showers for a few weeks. I did straight cold setting in the summer (which I finally got a temp check of it being 60°) and it always sucked. I would tell myself, “it’s gonna suck. Get over it, and embrace it.” What helped me immensely was to warm my body by doing a workout that got my core to heat up. The next option was to do look warm, and incrementally start making it colder. That actually helped me out a lot better than cold all at once. Ironically I did find it helped me with stress at work, so that I could think clearer. It made me a lot more “chill” and not so uptight. I shall resume this henceforth.

Hi Dr. Berg! Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it very much. If you start with a hot bath or a sauna until you feel uncomfortable, then the cold will be a relief, and over time, you will develop positive feelings when thinking about the cold. Your body's response to the cold will also change over time; it adapts, so don't think that you will always feel the cold the same way you do when first starting out-your body will adapt and it won't be such a big deal to take a cold shower after you've done it for a few years. Self-hypnosis also helps; if you tell yourself enough times that you love cold showers, you will start to believe it. I no longer believe cold showers are uncomfortable, but rather full of sensations that make me feel completely alive. I find the cold has a calming effect after a few minutes, so I always look forward to that feeling. I find it also helps to quit thinking, and to just focus on the sensations you are feeling while experiencing the cold. If you can do this, a cold shower is a wonderful experience full of marvelous sensations that improves your health tremendously. What's not to love about that?

3 months now, up to 12 mins on weekdays, started with a minute, really good for maintaining attention and performance at work. Another tip, avoid water to the head and alternate with hot water at the end, back and forth for those benefits. Huberman has an extensive list of tools on the topic, got my ice bath on the way, which I can't wait to finally try, especially now being acclamated to cold showers. The breathing tip is key, and also the mental method is useful to think of each step as a wall you need to climb over. Try physiological sigh or Wim Hoff breathing, and a few controlled hyper ventilating breaths too (3 x cycles) also helps.

I find it helpful to first put my hands under the cold water stream. It tells the body -- get ready, cold is on the way. Then on the face, which is used to being colder when we are outside in winter; and then quickly, finally on the whole body. This procedure enables me to get straight into a cold shower without a warm one first. It saves a lot of time. A 30 second cold shower is all I need. I have been doing this for many years. It works well. The idea of taking a cold shower in winter is always much worse than the actual reality. If I feel cold before getting into a cold shower, I don't feel at all cold afterwards. The body is stimulated to generate heat

Another tip from something I learned from morning Run & Dip at the Outward Bound School on Hurricane Island in Maine. Your mental resistance / desire to avoid is a large part of why it feels bad. If you can go in with the mental attitude of “bring it on,” embracing the cold in your mind, it’s still cold, but it doesn’t feel like a bad experience. Magic!

I have a severe case of chronic fatigue syndrome. I've been doing cold baths and showers for 17 months now. It was easy to do because I STARTED IT IN THE SUMMER when you naturally want to escape the heat. CFS gets aggravated by heat, and lying down in cold water I immediately felt relief. Then I just continued doing it day by into the winter. Since I do not have cooling or heating devices in my home, in the middle of winter I felt too cold to go into cold water, so would dress warmly and start doing some house chores or preparing food for my meals. After that my body was warmed up so it wasn't a problem to slip into the cold bath and stay there for 10 minutes. I find cold baths much easier to tolerate than cold showers. The benefits are great. After a cold bath or shower, pain goes away, and I feel much more alive. I used to be in bed for 23 hours a day, but now I can be on my feet for several hours longer, and can also do some mental work, which was impossible before.When I better enough to get a job, I plan on buying ice an doing ice baths, which are known to bring even more health benefits.

I've been taking cold showers for more than 8 months, 2 per day actually, each one after my strong vinyasa yoga sessions at 4 a.m (I wake up at 3 a.m.) and in the late afternoon. It was not so very hard to get used to it, so much so that in the end hot showers became somewhat unpleasant, honest. All this seems to fit very well with the 6/18 intermittent fasting. In the beginning, I used to say to myself: "Hey, it is just water, why worry so much? This sensation will pass away anyway, so just keep on enduring it, we'll reward ourselves with a delicious oatmeal/nuts/kefir bowl for breakfast afterwards". Now it is no more traumatic, but decidedly stimulating.

Fasting 6/18 ? How to do it 🙏 please????
@Nedmar Жыл бұрын
@@elisavetelis7405 Well, basically it is about taking food in a 6 hours intake window, and fasting for the subsequent 18 hours, taking tea at most, if this period of fasting feels too unbearable. Many do this between 1 and 7 pm., but some of us do this between 6 am and noon. I am no one to give advice on this, each one has to start testing what is better fitting for oneself. The only thing which is really needed is an unbreakable will to get through the initial hardship till the body gets used to this new condition, which in time becomes natural.
