Nice to see your daughter in a cockpit. Polarized sunglasses and aircraft screens don't mix well. I wish I could have started when I was 9 but I didn't start until I was 18, just 13 years ago and now I'm a 747 cargo pilot.

Super cool! As you know, it is always every pilot's dream to fly the queen! The Garmin screens in the other airplanes I fly are actually fine with the polarized sunglasses, but not the Collins.
@747FoSophie4 ай бұрын
@@TheRunwayRyan The queen is an amazing plane, especially the cargo version when the nose opens up and you are in the cockpit. I'm not sure who makes the displays on the 747 but the first time I flew it with polorized sunglasses all the screens looked blank. I haven't used polarized sunglasses since. Greetings from Hong Kong (at the moment)

Back in the late 1950's I got to fly co-pilot in a twin Beechcraft that the company my father worked for owned. It was a taildragger and I could not see over the instrument panel but I could hold altitude and follow a compass heading. It instilled a love of flying that led to my private pilot's license and plane ownership later in life. Good luck little lady.

Hey Ryan. Love your videos. Quick question that I haven't been able to locate an answer to. Your takeoff callouts include "70 knots, red only". I know that the 70 knots is an airspeed crosscheck but I haven't been able to figure out the "red only" portion. Can you fill me in? Thanks!
@TheRunwayRyan4 ай бұрын
Sure. I actually called it out wrong, it should be "80, red only". Not everyone does this, and truly it isn't necessary. At 80 knots the system has a Takeoff Phase Inhibit (TOPI) that becomes active and will only show you certain CAS messages, most - if not all - of which are red. This prevents the likelihood of a high speed abort. Just drives the point home that from this point until V1, we are only stopping for a red CAS message.

Which up until recently before watching your videos I didn’t even occur to me that that would be a option for me to do. I’m currently 33 years old and just wanted to say because of you and your videos I feel like I want to become a pilot. I’m a little nervous about learning all of the aviation information for me to pass my FAA exam. But I hope I do. Any advice that you have for me? Or is there any particular place that you recommend to learn how to fly? Once again, just wanted to say thank you
@TheRunwayRyan2 ай бұрын
Wow, thank you for watching! This type of message is exactly what keeps me making these videos, so I am honored to be that person for you. 33 is young, so your are in good shape! If you have more than one option for flight schools where you live, I would recommend asking around to see which one is best. Unfortunately, the flight instructor role is not one that many people like - me included. Because of that, it can become a stepping stone for people working their way to the airlines or corporate. I got very lucky and had two older (retired) instructors that were instructing because they loved it. It made all the different in the world. If you can find something like that, it would really help you. I do want to point out that there are younger instructors like this as well, they are just few and far between. Good luck to you!

She's really just riding up front with me to continue being exposed to aviation. She is not there in place of the autopilot, although I do allow her to fly these jets on occasion in the right circumstances. To answer the first part of your question though, I first started truly flying and taking lessons at 13 years old.
