This reminds me of my parents who came to the UK from the Caribbean. I and my older sister did all the chores looked after the younger siblings all boys, who played. My parents had a different mindset very similar to Faith's mom. it was to train us, girls, to know how to look after a family. Her children's hair was the least of her problem. Educating, feeding them, and paying the bills was their priority. The children look healthy and loved. In a foreign country without an extended family, it's hard.
@CanopusLux3 жыл бұрын
It's still unacceptable. Her mom is a hair dresser so she should take care of faith's hair. No one says that she needs a big fancy hairstyle, just give that poor girl a normal bun or something. Shes in a foreign country, at a foreign school and I know from personal experience, that kids can be very cruel, especially if you look different. I hope she dont get bullied in a higher grade because her hair looks like a hot mess. It's nor that hard to brush it and put some clips in it or her mother could at least teach her that so she can do her own hair
@omisonafasina79453 жыл бұрын
@@CanopusLux I'm unsure if you know anything about black hair. But her hair looks as if it had been blown out of place by the wind, if Faith was aware or if mom had the time, just before shooting the scene it would be no problem to just brush her hair into place. Much of the assumption has been her mom doesn't look after her hair but I don't see evidence of it. Faith could easily brush her hair into place if she was aware at the time. Perhaps I should have added to my initial comment That Black families in general place a huge emphasis on hair and the wearing of hairstyles. Particularly as their children reflect their familiy.

I understand why she chose faith to depend on. She probably see the other children as too young to do the chores. HOWEVER, at the very LEAST take care of her. Make sure she's presentable and understands how to dress herself and do her hair properly. Teach her styles that she can maintain on her own. Yes the mother is overworked, but she chose to have these children.

I don't understand why people just keep having children when they're poor and struggling. Children are not born to just do house chores for you. You only get a few years to be a child and the rest of your life to be an adult so she should be spending most of her time doing school work/ studying and playing with her friends. It feels like the Mother is emphasizing her chores more than her education. And why is she washing clothes in a pan with a bar of soap???? This is South Korea! I KNOW they got a damn washing machine around there somewhere!

I am Albanian and watching Faith's life, reminded me of my own. I had to cook and clean for my family as early as age 7-8. Had to take care of my two brothers, clean the whole house, and cook food cause mom and dad worked. They also would lock us home all day because we couldn't go out and get hurt or something. It was such a tough upbringing that has caused me so much trauma and major resentment towards my mother. My mother never said I love you, would always reprimand me, and to this day, I am upset at her. I understand that she tried her best, but I really feel for Faith as well. What I want to say to Faith is that forgive your mom, she thinks she is helping you and teaching you to be independent and a good girl. She doesn't know any better. This is how she was treated so she is doing the same to you. While you will suffer, at the same time, when you grow up, you will be strong and very skilled. You got this, Faith. You will become very successful, I know it. Don't let sadness enter your heart. You will do great, I feel it. I hope and wish only the best of the best for you and send you so much love from this Albanian immigrant in Canada

Yeah, definitely Korea’s fault, not the fact that she endured parentification. Notice that her younger sister didn’t lose her bright personality. The oldest girl was weighed down by responsibilities and neglect. THAT is most likely the cause of the change.

I’m pretty sure I watched this family on My Neighbour Charles. Is that show over or does anyone know if there’s new episodes? Anyways, I feel like they put too much pressure on this girl, like yeah it’s good to give kids chores because it gives them responsibility but even she said that she washes clothes while her other siblings do nothing and watch TV. The other kids should help out, too! I think they’re old enough, but the baby isn’t old enough too so he gets a pass.

@lyndidasi84213 жыл бұрын
In Africa this is pretty common. Kids are often given house work when they are young (9,10,13yrs old ). It depends also on the financial situation of the family, if the family is financial stable they can afford a maid and then children won't have anything to do. Cuz you don't have to be rich or have a lot of money to afford a maid in many African countries.
@Cindy997653 жыл бұрын
@@lyndidasi8421 It's fine for children to do chores, but the parents kept having children when the father was unemployed and the mom is barely at home because she works as a hairstylist full time. Fate is the parent for her siblings.

I think although she makes faith work so much, she is really all that mom can depend on since many people treat the eldest child as the one who should share the burden. But as a mom she moved thousands of miles away to a foreign land, her husband can’t find any work to sustain the family income, she has raised 3 kids and now has to take care of her baby full time, she does the cooking, the housework, she deals with body ache etc, sometimes I think this is the reason why she feels tired and thus expects Faith to help out. But I think even if all these are reasonable points to how mom feels, she should actually make the younger kids split the chores amongst themselves otherwise it will make Faith resentful because of unfair treatment.

Everyone is worried about hair but not acknowledging that a 9 year old child is taking care of an entire household, washing clothes, cleaning dishes, taking care of her other siblings, and no adult is home until the night. The mother brings her infant to to work with her. And the husband walks around all day looking for work, instead of being at home with the children or making his own way, she does hair for a living, he could be cooking, babysitting, teaching, fixing cars, cutting hair, landscaping, etc. Please people dig deeper than appearances.

I ended up making A LOT of my own natural produces INCLUDING gelfrom boiled flax seeds. All it takes is research and a little bit of effort. It seems like laziness to not care of that babies hair.
