I'm getting tired of Ed and all the break ups and back togethers of this couple. Hopefully the Last Resort is the last we see of him.

Ed is old school. He believes in controlling a woman with aggression and snurky murks. Liz’s mom is old school too. She believes in controlling men with selective use of a reward or neglect.

This was my ex and I. With him constantly changing behaviors. At the very end you said “it’s gotta be really confusing” and that is soooo accurate. It’s a constant state of confusion.
@miahershkowitz2632 Жыл бұрын
I was so happy to hear you talk about how confusing it must be for Liz. One of the most difficult things for me to untangle after leaving a very physically abusive relationship was my own confusion about what was real and what wasn’t. I didn’t trust my own thinking, how had I stayed? It took years of work and still I struggle with working through how confusing it was and trusting my own thoughts.

At the end of the day, when words don't match behaviour, behaviour is the truth.

I remember repeating the phrase "I can't do shit with sorry" to myself as a mantra type thing that, to me, was a reminder words are just words they're cheap and meaningless without action. I no longer wanted an apology, i wanted changed behavior and after a lot of practice i learned to hold the optional people in my life as well as myself to this standard. Confusing is a great way to explain how it feels when the right words dont make the hurt go away.

Ed is so toxic its hard to watch him. Its amazing that he's been able to watch himself on television for long enough now you'd think he'd gain some insight into himself and his own behavior but that has definitely not happened. He probably blames that negative perception on TLCs editing.
@JulesA5266 Жыл бұрын
Well like Liz's mom said, he thinks he's God's gift to the world - so when he watches himself, he is probably patting himself on the back for being the good person in the show. >_>
@KonjikiKonjiki Жыл бұрын
I suspect Liz's mum has developed her response to her daughter's heartbreaks by Ed B over time, and it's taken a lot to get her response to where it is now. I would imagine she had a lot of regret over not speaking up about him sooner, and that has informed her current response. I honestly wish my family had done this for me at any point in my life; I'm a people pleaser to a really harmful extent, and put up with poor treatment because I was shown that's how you do things. Instead, they just judged me silently and never said a word about what kind of treatment I should be rec eiving instead.
@snOags Жыл бұрын
ive had a g/f that was like that. she would be what seemed genuinely apologetic about her behavior. i relented, and provided the security in the relationship, and not 1 day later she would be behaving much the same and would in fact be as adversarial because she now had the pain 2 days in a row so would be angry at me saying i have been harming her. its a no win if you are in this type of relationship and all that happens is the stakes get higher and the retribution becomes harsher.

@lilbeanbop Жыл бұрын
Look up some active listening techniques! Sometimes just listening and echoing the other person is enough to be supportive. When you’re being supportive and just listening, you don’t really need to worry about running out of things to say because the focus should be hearing them rather than a response
