Love your channel and content. I just want to comment to those who criticize and accuse you of being a prepper for societal collapse. The United States Department For Emergency Preparedness recommends water and food storage for emergencies. 3 days minimum, 2 weeks is recommended at the very least. Look at what happened in Texas during the winter a couple of years ago when the power went down for an extended time. People died from not being prepared. This is just one example that the department of preparedness is siting. We all need to take it seriously.

Yep - I'm in that same world - not a prepper - our food supply is for what we are living right now - job loss of the main income earner in the family that has lasted for more than a month. And then think 2020 -- all that time that so many people had trouble purchasing food. Great video, Victoria!

Amen, I totally agree. We have both experienced this and honestly, a 30 day supply is the minimum I would recommend having!

I’m on a fixed income and care for a disabled child But I saved $ for the last two years and bought a freeze dryer I’ve been buying ground beef and freeze drying it like crazy I’ve also been accumulating affordable dry food in bulk like rice and beans and pasta Canned food I’m stocking up on tomato sauce corn beans and lots of mixed fruit I’m buying what I mainly cook and what my family likes Little by little it’s accumulating I also bought bulk of Mylar bags for my dry food and freeze dried food I can’t afford to by pre package freeze dry food so the freeze dryer pretty much saves me $ We’re a big family so I know it won’t last long which is why I’m buying seeds also I love how you have your shelves it’s so organized and pretty ❤️

What an inspiration you are! Wow! I'm so proud of you and I know your family is so grateful that you are thinking ahead and planning. Freeze drying beef and having dry/canned goods is so smart! How many people are in your family?

@@AModernHomestead 1 adult and 5 teenage boys Teenage boys eat a lot lol But if there’s disruption to the supply chain then I’d just like to be prepared And if there isn’t a disruption I know there will still be increasing food costs so I like to buy the food at today’s price than next year’s because later we won’t be able to afford it if our water and electricity prices keep rising So another words there’s many reasons why ppl should prep In a way it’s been really good because I feel healthier I stopped smoking cigarettes and stopped buying fast food for two years to save $ for the freeze dryer I couldn’t believe how much $ I wasted on unhealthy lifestyle My son has schizophrenia and the organizing and prepping and learning how to do things has helped him with focus Now he says he’ll be in charge of the gardening ❤️

Thank you for saving that you don't have to think the world is ending to have a emergency stock of food. We have had many times where the weather was so bad that local stores could not get deliveries. I agree that something bulk buying is way cheaper than buying a small package.

Yes! You're so right! I know, the comments I get about "just put the money in the bank and buy food if you need it, that way you have the money if you don't need the food" are very real. I'm glad more and more people are waking up to the fact that the food supply is not as stable as it may have once been. What are your favorite bulk buys?

@@AModernHomestead Since a family member has to eat gluten free, I have bought rice flour, etc in bulk for years out of necessity. Lately I have been buying extra canned meat, etc when I find a good deal. Also, since we buy a special multivitamin, I always make sure to buy a replacement container when I open a new bottle.

We also have food allergies in our house - gluten, dairy and peanuts. How I built up our food storage was waiting for half price sales and buying several extras of those items. We may not have, nor do we intend to have, a 2 year food supply, but our 4 month supply came in handy when hubby lost his job with seizures (he automatically lost his driver's licence having the seizures and needed his licence for his job).

Welcome! I'm glad you're storing up meat! Yes, having that food on hand was crucial during 2020 and during 2021 for the big snow storm we had. We were stuck at home for almost 3 weeks due to the snow! Were you stuck at home during snowmaggedon?

Location is huge. I did a quick comparison with organic burger at a national grocery store. Depending on the brand my location is $1-3 a pound more. I have some canned and a little in the freezer from when prices were a lot less. But we have stopped eating meat for the most part.
@AModernHomestead2 жыл бұрын
Definitely! Location is critical! I took the national average, so the prices would be off by too much in one direction or the other… and then many items you can get online, so the price will be the same. But yes, it’s crazy! We raise a cow each year (for the last 2 years), so the cost of processing is what it costs to fill the freezer… and we still give some away because we also don’t eat much meat. Do you have a garden too, or do you can food from the store (did that for 20 years, it’s a great option!)?
