I love how the two chocolate based cereals aired back to back, & they both tasted pretty good. I haven't forgotten about Dino Pebbles; if only Post can bring that cereal back. The 90's were the best time to be a kid, especially 1991 the year of the Super Nintendo, Super Mario World, & Sonic The Hedgehog!
@80sCommercialVault4 жыл бұрын
The two chocolate cereal ads didn’t actually air back to back. The contents of this recording come from multiple episodes of "Mr. Wizard's World" that spanned the first week or so of September, 1991.

There was a lot more freedom and fewer distracting devices. Getting sent out to roam the neighborhood to play and returning for meals led to great adventures and lessons. Sleepovers with old scary movies and board games. Taking turns on single-player Sega games. Junk food EVERYWHERE. Even at school. Christmas shopping in toy catalogues at at the mall. Kids were way more independent and learned about conflict resolution without having grown ups get involved.

The 1991-1992 TV season was the last for NBC's Saturday Morning cartoon lineup and it really was forgettable. Prostars, Wish Kid, Yo Yogi, the worst season of Captain N and the horrible Super Mario World cartoon, no wonder they canned the idea entirely and went entirely with teen-oriented sitcoms the following fall.

2:22 - I remember reading that the decision to include Sonic the Hedgehog with the Genesis was originally a controversial idea within Sega, as it was their newest and biggest game, and giving it away for free seemed like a bad move. However, the President of Sega of America persisted, and the idea wound up working, as it was the perfect move Sega needed in order to draw attention away from the Super Nintendo. Because of it, Sega wound up outselling Nintendo's new console during the 91 holiday season. I certainly remember a lot of friends suddenly picking up a Genesis at the time, because of this move.

4:40 - Yo, Yogi is regarded as one of the worst cartoons of the 90s, and that's saying something when you see stuff like Hammerman as its competition. The cartoon was a pathetic attempt to make Yogi, Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, and other characters "cool" by making them into preteen 90s kids who hung out all day at Jellystone Mall. And yes, the idea is just as desperate as it sounds. It was a total "Poochy the Dog" moment for the character, trying desperately to make the character "hip" with today's youth.
@thisrollercoasterlife4984 жыл бұрын
They did that to Rugrats too. They called it All Grown Up. Rugrats was great, sequel, not so much. The great thing about Rugrats was being transported into the imagination of toddlers and how they see simple things.

It was definitely part of the short-lived era in the late 80s/early 90s where celebrities got cartoons, like Camp Candy (John Candy), Rick Moranis at Gravedale High (where he was a teacher at a Monster High School), Pro Stars and of course, Wish Kid.
